Sat in my local Citroen dealer about 10 years ago, a small, well run family dealership. Old guy walked in , wanted a diesel - then explained he drove about 3K miles per year - all local short runs mostly picking up grandkids from school and local shopping. Watched as that salesman spent 10 mins trying dissuade him, but no, he wanted the diesel for better mpg.

You know what, when I bought my last car, there was a good deal on a diesel and I thought I'd try one, so I asked for a test drive. The saleman explained about DPFs and the type of driving diesels are more suited to and I'm happy to say he steered me back to the excellent 2L petrol I still own and still don't drive much. It just annoying I have to pay £385 tax for the priviledge of not driving much.

It’s interesting to hear customer stories about the attempts to hoodwink you. On the other side of the coin we have dealers trying to do the same to customers. I bought a Rang Rover a few weeks ago, my second attempt as I had to reject the first one. During the viewing I noticed dampness in the boot area, which they explained was where they washed it out. On the second viewing (taking my wife for a test drive), I noticed the engine was warm and the interior heating up at full blast. The same was evident when I picked it up. A few days later we had the storm and lo and behold I have boot full of water. I’m having it inspected on Tuesday by a RR specialist but I suspect a bun fight with the dealer. Oh and the second key does not work, not even a blade in it. Boot cover missing which they promise to replace. Given me a two year warranty with it, not heard anything from them yet. Checking tomorrow. So here we go again after the first time, having to chase dealers for things that should be done before sale. I’m sure you will agree not great!

We live in Australia and we love our EV. We have a 13 kW rooftop solar system and the car is always plugged in whilst in the garage. 97% of the electricity used to charge the EV has come from the solar. It has an average range of 600kms, develops about 300kW and does 0-60 in 4.2s. Recent studies have shown that EV batteries last longer than initially thought. My battery should be good for 1,500 cycles which is about 900,000 kms. Why would I want to go back to ICE?

@@BarrieCrampton It depends. I have a drive and a home charger. iIt cost me seven pence per kilowatt hour, so to fully charge my 60 kilowatt battery is £4.20. That does me on average 220 miles. I wouldn't go back to an ICE car.

Hi Barrie Seems you can’t win with those of a certain mindset , and who will never accept they’ve backed the wrong horse . Which is absolutely fine . But we’re already seeing the effects on the car industry , by this all or nothing dam the consequences approach that was never going to end well . And that applies to both sides of the debate , you know it and I know it . But why on earth some are prepared to go down with a sinking ship , is totally beyond me . But we must never underestimate the unpredictability of the human mind , and I include my self in that also . Kind regards 👍

Not having to call into a garage and getting the smell of diesel or petrol on your hands and on the bottom of your shoes is strangely addictive! I only realized how much I don't miss it when I had to use a diesel hire van recently! I've also stopped buying a daily newspaper, which is saving me the loss of my wife and I's winter fuel payment.! Your life changes when you use an EV in so many different ways.

I saw a tweet saying that you had made a story up about a distressed lady looking for a charger. I asked if they had bothered to view the video with the CCTV footage. No they hadn’t….the amount of tweets I received from evangelists questioning every aspect of the story was ridiculous. Regarding the lady, I said sometimes we can have a bad day and another thing going wrong can amplify the distress….to a point it did quieten after that. Whatever you are driving can cause issues and just maybe they thought that a EV is not the utopia they consistently preach.

All motor traders have had same same , or same same different. Sadly. Constantly. It’s very very sad. We are up against buyer remorse and buyer liar all time. Last week had a refund tax go wrong but buyer not a liar or cheat he said. Tracked it down and sure enough. Former owner had had the tax money back that I refunded ahead then got dvla refund also. Was an owner 2 days. Buyer Liar is strong in motor trader. BUT. It’s ok as all used cars bent. So the punter wants to believe. It’s just what we have to work through.

What about the 100,000's of ICE drivers in the UK that run out of fuel? It's that the cars fault or the drivers? 😅

What about them? How does that make it okay for EVs to have a pathetic range and a wholly insufficient charging infrastructure?

@@matthewgodwin3050 The true story started as a EV driver almost running out of fuel, the same true story could easy be replaced with a ICE driver running out of fuel. That's the 'What about them?' if your going to drive with little fuel left then is that the cars fault or the drivers? How do the 100,000's of ICE drivers end up running out for fuel? At what point did I say it was 'okay for EVs to have a pathetic range and a wholly insufficient charging infrastructure' its not.
@matthewgodwin30504 күн бұрын
@@MegaMeek21 You're comparing apples to oranges. Petrol & Diesel car drivers typically don't run out of fuel, and if they do, it's a whole lot easier to deal with. There's a gauge going down in a linier fashion, and fuel is readily available. It takes 3 minutes to fill a car with fuel, and you can also carry a jerrycan for emergencies. Run out of electricity, and you're calling a breakdown truck to get your ridiculous contraption off the road.
@MegaMeek213 күн бұрын
@@matthewgodwin3050 1.4% of EV drivers run out of fuel by June 2024, 1% of ICE drivers run out of fuel. The AA said in June 2024 that soon both EV and ICE cars will be at 1%. So the running out of fuel is not the fault of the EV but the drivers fault. We are talking about a problem that 1-1.4% of EV drivers have, not EV cars. But this true click bait story makes it sound like its a huge problem :) love it.
@1x3dil3 күн бұрын
Interesting argument , but if you can run out of fuel in a non electric vehicle , then common sense would imply that you would be more likely to run out of charge in an EV . In my fifty odd years of driving I have never run out of fuel , but modern cars do tend to alert you to fill up . Which tends to give you at least 30 miles of range . Again this should not present to much of a change in this country , but with Evs this could quickly become a make or break situation . Of course if we are given no option in the future , then my record could very well be broken . But at 71 I probably won’t be in a position to be worried about it . Kind regards to all
