Cars of the future IMAGINE we lived in a world where all cars were EVs, then along comes a new invention called the internal combustion engine. A vehicle half the weight and half the price, that will do far less damage to road surfaces. A vehicle that can be refuelled in a tenth of the time and has a range four times greater in all weather conditions. It doesn't need environmentally damaging, non- renewable rare earth elements to power it, and uses less steel. Think how excited people would be for such technology. They would sell like hot cakes. I feel your pain. I had a similar experience here in the U.S. with my 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance. I bought it used for $33,000 with 25,000 miles on it, and just two months later, I was considering trading it in for the Highland Model 3 AWD. Tesla was still listing similar Model 3 Performances on their website for $32,000-$34,000, but when I asked for a trade-in offer, they lowballed me with $25,500. From what I’ve seen, Tesla doesn’t care about their reputation when it comes to used car trade-ins. They’re not in the business of selling used cars; their focus is entirely on selling new cars. That’s why they’re constantly dropping prices, offering discounts, and incentivizing new inventory sales. The downside is that it drives down used Tesla values across the board. It’s frustrating, but unfortunately, it seems like this is just how they operate.

Shock horror. All cars depreciate about 50% in their first year. It is only a problem if you plan on changing it every year. It tends to smooth out a bit after three years which is why most people hang on to them for that time. It is not an issue if you plan to keep it for 10 years.

ev sales continue to confound the fossils as their metaphorical iceberg continues to shrink. For some common sense look at the depreciation after 3 years average mileage and you’ll see it’s c 52%. Evs depreciate much faster
@jonfrench7133Күн бұрын
Take a look at the data, auto trader is a good place to start….Motorway.co.uk quote below….How fast do electric cars depreciate? According to the AA, a new car will lose around 60% after its first three years at a mileage of 10,000 miles a year. This shouldn’t be news to most car owners, as depreciation is simply a fact of life (and makes it even more important to get the best deal when you sell your electric car). While electric cars aren’t immune to this basic three-year rule, they have been performing notably well in recent times as ULEZ zones and trending brands help them retain value for longer.
@jonfrench7133Күн бұрын
This is the insight from Autotrader…… Market data from providers like Autotrader shows that EVs depreciate very slightly faster on average than petrol and diesel-powered models. The biggest drop in EV value relative to fuel-powered cars is within the first 12 months. After that point, the rate of depreciation for each following year tracks more closely to non-EVs.

There is no reason for anyone to want to pay top money for a 2 month old car when they can buy a new one for not much more. Welcome to the real world of deprecation. At best you can expect to lose the VAT (about £10k of that?) as that wasn't part of the price of the car that Tesla was bearing anyway and then look for someone who has cash to buy a £50,000 car. Amazingly there aren't that many out there and certainly not Tesla who have ship loads of the things to sell. WBAC will always pitch bottom prices as they don't care if you sell to them or not. All they would do is stick the car in an auction and make £10-£15k on what they are offering you. Nobody with any sense would buy a new car and expect to sell it inside a year without significant loss. Just lease one.
