I can well relate to this. I got over 50 watches and counting. Many of them are worn but most of them worn rarely, quit a few I have never worn. Still I enjoy ALL of them. Some people are so narrow minded that they insist that they ONLY buy watches because they like them and zero for the investment value. I say wow to that, really, you buy a watch for £20.000 and have not a single thought in your head for the future resale value? If that is the case you are either very very rich, or just plain stupid, who can othervice spend 20k and risk losing it all? Also I can totally understand the pleasure about just picking up a watch and just looking at it, reading about the history, understanding the movement etc etc, wearing it on the wrist is just one of many parts of the whole experience.

Nice collection. I have collected watches since the 90's. All watches, except for complicated Pateks and steel Dayotonas were readily available for discounts. Steel Subs and GMT Masters were always in the case. The gray market was always at a discount, and many of the Pateks that were on waiting lists at ADs could be bought for a modest premium on the gray market. I had stopped buying watches in 2017 and was flabbergasted recently when I wanted to buy an updated Rolex! Then I found out how much a few of my watches were selling for! Crazy.

I read that there are a lot of moving parts in a mechanical watch movement, and if they stay static for too long the lubricants that help the gears run smoothly can begin to congeal. This can cause unwanted friction which will not only affect the watch’s performance but may also lead to damage. It does make me wonder of old new stock that sat in a drawer for 20 years. That begs the question how often to wind up the watches? Seems like a lot of work for watch dealers having to wind up their entire stock on a regular basis, or is this a non issue and the watch is fine to stay untouched ? (I'm asking, not preaching) Brilliant collection! I only got 3 watches and just one Rolex :-/

Do you provide a service for a 20 year old unworn watch, when sold? Lubricants break down, gaskets deteriorate, dissimilar metals, can corrode, I would be concerned as a buyer that perhaps 20 years without service, might conceal a problem, well after the return window has closed. Your thoughts?
