If you buy ANYTHING today and try to sell it just a few months later, that's stupid.

Nice advice. As you say, not an investment but still an asset. For me, I love NEO-vintage. 1990 to about 2010. And yes, they are in a similar fashion to current production watches and yet, they tend to hold their value better. They are also more iconic IMHO. I love the GP laureato 8010 and the a laureato-olimpico 8017 for example. Mechanical and 36 mm and 40 mm respectively. My next go to choice for the GP laureato is the laureato 81000 at 41 mm which was a Basel novelty to start Gen 5. Best wishes from Singapore. 🤝

Well exactly, the point is, my black dial sub date has in 7 years gone up by 30% in retail price, meaning if I wanted to sell my watch used, I can do so with a small profit, compared to what I paid, because it still saves the buyer, at least 20% vs new, so that’s why a Rolex holds its value, even increase it. That said, with the new much higher unit production, this might change. It becoming easier to buy a Rolex at the AD, impacts on resale prices, mind you, not everybody can keep up their savings, with the fast rising Rolex prices, so there will always be some, buying 2nd hand, to ever be able to become a Rolex owner. Now 7 years later, my latest date just cost me the same as my black sub date and in 3 years time, when I might be wanting a perpetual, that will cost me the same, hence why I doubt I will buy any more Rolexes. The quality doesn’t made the fast growing prices anymore.

If you buy at list price for most models YES, in grey market you loose money (if you correct with inflation and interest lost)

Used watch dealers are worse than used car dealers if you ask, there is a lot of this going on (polished watches being sold as ‘unworn’). I would rather buy a used watch with scratches on it myself, I don’t think I’d ever polish a watch of my own or certainly not in the first 10 years of ownership. These watches are passing hands all the time and getting polished repeatedly in the first few years of their existence.

Reneging, nothing worse than it. You could easily spend an hour of your time showing your product and negotiating a fair price for both buyer and seller. Shake hands then hear I’ll get back to you tomorrow. Bye Bye to the customer. Waste of your time.

I Always say that public perception drives and denotes the worth and value of all things. Your talking about 24,5 here for one of the most beautiful treasures in all of watchdom… By All rights I feel it should be a 200K jewel but people nowadays would put a rare Daytona or far less well made Patek far over this price wise. To those who know and appreciate go the finer things in life. In this case the value completely eclipses the price. Thank You David for showing this beautiful timepiece the Reverence that it commands. It would be the prize in my collection if I owned it✨👍✨

Hi David If Rolex are pulling out of F1 and watch prices are falling, do you believe now? They will start to restrict the flow again to keep the hype going to try and keep the exclusivity in the value of them high

It’s not hating to disagree with you mate. Here’s the thing, your advice is great for flippers and dealers, but if I took your advice, I’d have a watch I don’t like on my wrist. When I purchase a watch man, I could give a flying flux about value retention cuz I’m not looking to make money with watches. I don’t sell my watches because It was love at first sight. The average owner is not sweating the value because if they’re willing to spend 10k on an OP, they’re probably making a pretty good living. Not everybody wants a 60k+ watch. Horrible advice lol, but I understand, you’re a flipper and you probably have said watches that you need to unload. Watches are HORRIBLE INVESTMENTS IN EVERY WAY….

They look interesting but a percentage off retail means nothing as the retail is set by the maker....... If I make something and say the retail is £100k that is just a figure I've made up!!!! So then 90% looks amazing but it means nothing

While i see you're point about value of such outstanding pieces yet the problem with these unrealized designs linking them with a staple brand is that it might be confused with fashion watches.

Great to see the REAL David back! I chanced upon your channel many years back for such content as i'm a passionate 5 digit Rolex collector. Along the way the channel deviated from the why it started. Very glad to see that you're back to do content like this, where you're most passionate about. Thank you for this great and wonderful video! Totally agree with you on the comparisons you've made in this video :)

@cryptobond8650
@cryptobond8650 Ай бұрын
Firstly, when you trying to sell a watch with 70% off and still nobody interested to buy it, it does not mean it's good value for money - quite opposite in fact. Secondly, if these watches are so amazing you would not put them on sale but keep them instead.

@@Talon173 As David has said many times they are watch collectors, hence the company name. They never sell watches that they deem as amazing/exceptional. Even these watches are 'piece unique' they are not in that category - that is why they are on sale.

The issue with these sort of brands is that value retention is a factor for many of us who aren't millionaires. Chopard LUC has some amazing high end watches that can easily compete with Patek and can be bought for 70% off retail (used) however when it comes to selling them they are very difficult to move so even at 70% you still buy them "expensive". Look at the amazing Chopard LUC Quattro. Retails for £25,000 and you can find them for £9000 but still won't sell easily. Their diamond version used to retail for £37,000 as I recall yet at £12,500 on chrono24 and still nobody buys them. Delaneau at 70% brand new is a great deal provided you don't want to sell them afterwards.

Hi very interesting video some lovely watches but it's a hard ask to spend 25k on a brand you haven't heard from before do they also make watches with less precious metal put similar design s so you can get into these brands before you spend on the bigger priced watches? Thanks John 👍.

Some truly remarkable and exquisitely made watches there! Great craftmanship too. Great salesmanship as well David!! Yes you did get your point across!! As much as Rolex hold their value and a normal watch person will always opt for Rolex, AP, Patek and other similar brands depending upon a persons budget/likes! Despite Rolex not being too adventurous and colourful in their designs apart from a few recent designs like the OP Celebration... I wish they would be more colourful!! They seem to make minimal changes like a little colour change on a bezel...give us more Rolex!! Keep up the good work David!!

Those watches are very nice but I’d like to see the box with the AP’s, PP’s, and Rolex’s that are 60-70% off AD retail. And that’s the reason why people are willing to pay more for best in class. I do not consider 60-70% off grey market highs a true measure of the watch’s worth. The real lesson here is do not pay over AD retail price for the three watch brands above if you want to maintain your watch value. And if you love/want the watch no matter what the price then cheers. Buy what you love.
