Aside from the shoji window and the hole in the mens toilet, this Ryokan looks pretty decent and very well mentained. The floors are very shiny and looks good and it really doesn't look stuffy and dusty. Ofcourse if you wanna buy this place the first thing to renovate for me is the kitchens. The toilets are pretty modern and the Japanese rooms looks very well kept. I think if your in this kind of business this would be a pretty good catch. You just have to find the right employees that would share your vision and great suppliers for the food! And also the onsen, one looks pretty decent with minor renovations but the other one looks newly renovated and fairly new. Also the storage area where the futons, covers, pillow and and robes is prestine coditon and just need a bit of upgrade. Overall ,again if your into this kind of business,this place would be a good catch.....

I think there is a very good reason why the previous owners have stopped running the ryokan. Its probably just to expensive and difficult to run it. So this house is in my opinion only for somebody really rich, who wants a lovely old house as a private holiday residence, and is happy to put a lot of money into renovation as well.
@paulglennhunter27 күн бұрын
Or their children just weren't interested in continuing the family business. There's been plenty of other videos here where the business owners said if their kids don't have any interest in taking over, the business ends once they retire.

My sister and her husband have an insanely big house, its 3600 sqft in a strange layout, and I wouldn't enjoy having that much wasted space. This property would be a lovely Bed and Breakfast for sure, or a house with rented rooms, I don't know if I would want to manage it. The kitchen, fish tanks and dining area seem awesome though. Thank you for sharing this spectacular historical hotel, it's interesting and cozy.

@dwanseicheine740922 күн бұрын
Doesn't have to be 'wasted'. He or his wife could do so many things with all that space. He could turn an area into a greenhouse...another area into an area for the kids...himself...his wife. Very good possibilities.

Redo the roof an structure, plumbing an electrical, then redo the kitchen in 1930s style . Limit freezers an coolers. Go with more traditional space in kitchen keep key elements of the kitchen , dont change 😉 the interior , just make sure bathrooms an wash rooms saunas are leak checked an solid . Keep the 90 percent of the style an craftsmanship. Just fix an or restore . Its stunning . Landscape is a must . Traditional.

Yeah this place is pretty unique for lack of a better word. It's like half house half hotel. Looking at the layout I can't imagine how you would staff it full time with so few guest rooms. There doest seem to be a main attraction either like a large onsen or something so this place would be better if converted to an airbnb. Take the commercial kitchens out, redo the bathrooms, make it more homey.. It definitely has potential

That looks like a nightmare maintenance wise. The purchase price might be reasonable, but the upkeep of that place is going to be significantly more than the loan cost.
@Boomdizzle9929 күн бұрын
I thought the same. Most ppl see it as being affordable but they have no clue as to how difficult it is to invest into it.... Its more like a 2 million USD investment atleast. The roofs, ceilings, onsen area and rooms all need to be upgraded and even then the whole layout looks dated. The upkeep wont be cheap no matter what
@JoolsUK29 күн бұрын
$2 million how much is materials and labour in Japan? Its structurally sound one small roof issue. Windows might all need sorting. Flooring and room layout replacement. In Europe that would be about same as asking price again with some work done by buyer themself.
@OldBridgeDork29 күн бұрын
I absolutely agree a lot of naive comments, if someone were to reopen this as a ryokan they’d need to gut the place. The cost of renovation could be as much as 10 times the sale price. In order to get all relevant licenses to operate as a hotel and serve food they may need to install a new kitchen and the building would need to be retro fitted to comply with current building codes for fire safety and earthquakes. The rooms seemed to offer little privacy or security but on the plus side the toilets looked relatively new!!
@OldBridgeDork29 күн бұрын
@@JoolsUKat that price you are not paying for the building you are paying for the land. It looks structurally sound but that’s it, termites are a big problem in Japan, especially on older buildings and you can’t see them without closer inspection. To reopen as a ryokan significant work may need to be done to comply with the current building codes for fire and earthquakes.

I know AirBnBs are really popular right now, but i might do an analysis of the area and see if rental properties are in need and it might make a cool apartment co-op...several people (likely single) live there with their own significant space and share a common area and kitchen. Maybe 4-6 people. there's plenty of room to accommodate everyone's kitchen storage needs and its large enough to have an entertainment area, work space, theater room, etc. There are several successful models of this being done is old buildings in urban areas in the U.S. Its a cool older building!

I was thinking of applying to SNK as a Character Artist after graduating my college after April 2025 since they just opened applying Foreigners to work there for next April. They did say that it's not required to learn Japanese skills, but it be helpful. I did take Japanese 101 class before. If I do decide to work on other Japanese companies after finished working for SNK like say Nintendo of Japan, Intelligent Systems, etc. and/or become a Foreigner Mangaka Artist, I wanted to know if I might need to learn Advance Japanese Language to go there that requires more Japanese language if I decided to stay in Japan and work in different Japanese companies?

Paolo, I think this video would be improved by giving information about the neighborhood, the local area, and the wider region. It would not be ideal getting B-roll on a day with weather like you had but it's context like that that adds life to a video that is otherwise devoted to an empty (lifeless) building. House tours can be great but it's necessary to remember that people go into buying property thinking about location, location, location. For example, I remember when you introduced us to your apartment, the decision to get the one you did was quite influenced by Maiko wishing to be very close to a station.
