Buying a BMW? My 4 Tips Help You Buy a Reliable BMW
Listen, it's easy to go out and buy a BMW. Any person can go and purchase a car (as long as they have the credit or the cash, that is). However, if you'd like to ensure that you have a great, reliable BMW, well then you need to look at things a little differently. I give you 4 tips in this video to make sure you end up with a #reliable #BMW.
Research - Obviously, you need to start with some research to make sure you understand the big issues with the different BMW models you're looking at. Don't stop until you understand what you can and can't live with.
Inspection - This is true when you're buying any used car. Make sure you get it inspected whether or not you're buying it with the dealer. Anyone who says you can't take the car elsewhere to have an independent inspection is hiding something. Just do it.
Satisfy your Curiosity - Make sure you ask every question you have in your head. Simply put, don't settle for getting half the story.
Keep It Simple - You don't need every feature on the planet in your car, do you? Do you need the extra horsepower, or do you need to get a little better reliability out of your car? If you're looking for reliability, stay a little on the lower end of the scale in terms of features.

I would also advise buying used bmw with high millage and full service history rather then low millage one. Chances are, most of the known common faulty and worn parts will have already been changed and it shows that the car has been looked after and reliable. Anything between 90- 100k and you’ll soon be spending lots of money on maintenance.

I bought a 2011 328i 3 months ago. The car is clean inside and out and the guy had meticulous service records with it when he traded it in. You can tell when someone truly loved their car. It runs like a new car. The only thing on it that is upgraded, is the sound system which is all Kenwood. Oh and it is the cold weather package

There’s no such thing as a perfect vehicle after all they are manufactured in factories and people who work at factories know not everything is perfect. Did a lot of research on my 2015 F06 BMW 650xi Gran Coupe m-sport, found that it had the motor revised to eliminate a lot of the problems in the previous iteration of the motor. Lots of reviews and it has a lot of positive reviews and any who complained about things were cosmetics not mechanical. The car had/ has a high original cost so many didn’t buy it most went with a 5 series instead of the 6 series. Most who have them usually don’t sell them. Anyways good video, keep rockin’!

MrGchiasson depending on years of both your 3-series and the 5-series in which you are searching for it should be same engine on both models depending on year. Just a good amount of space more. I had a 2006 525i model and it was perfect size for me with reasonable cargo space and foot room front and back for me at 6’2.

I just bought an all original 2011 328I xdrive e90 n51 last week with 164,000mi on the clock. The engine runs strong with no oil leaks. It is a 2-owner car with a maintenance service history and unmodded. Car runs like a Swiss watch. I see know problem getting 300kmi out of it. The 2 previous owners took good care of it. I would never buy a brand new BMW unless I have money to throw away.

over 100k miles, the timing chain really needs to be looked at. also, the tensioners and guides for the timing chain are made of PLASTIC!!! if you do a timing chain, do the water pump while u have all the belts off

Whenever dealership salesman tells me they’ve done 150 point inspection, I roll my eyes. It’s like hearing “one time at band camp”. I purchased my second Audi A3 8p after my first one totalled(structurally solid). After I bought it, I brought it back for ignition coil failure and new tires. Dealer was resistant in replacing tire. I’d told them my mechanic pointed out there’s a ridge formed on the inside of at least 2 tires and it’s due to alignment. Dealer kicked and screamed claiming the tread wear was fine. I’d try to give them the analogy of uneven wear bottom of your shoes, could not understand. Results on alignment was as suspected, it was so far off, it was at the peak tip of the valley. They replace the tires and said no more reconditioning ($1,000). Later, I paid my mechanic to replace wheel bearing(grinding) and transmission flush($1,000). Afterwards, I replace all 4 ignition coils with R8 performance grade. It cost me $200 cdn and 5 mins with my bear hands. Turned out to be plug n play item but when dealer replace 2 with 2009 ignition coils, it took them all day. This was a brand name dealer and should stick to selling their brand. I went by again for a 2014 BMW235i and they wouldn’t even take the cheap strips off the body. It was already peeling off. All they do is give it a car wash, casual glance for safety and flip it. Reconditioning is not in their vocabulary.

The path I took was 1) How much was a I willing spend. 2) What could I get for that money and what do I need 3) Decided a 6-cylinder non-turbo BMW was the best 4) Test drove a number of 6-cylinder models 323i, 325i and 330i 5) Picked the E90 330i and then had it PPI'ed 6) Got a 4 -year mechanical warranty with the deal. 7) Service it regularly by BMW specialists

First of all congrats Adam, that sounds like a great car. I tested drove one and loved the power and dimensions of the car. Oil service, fuel filter because of the finicky injectors, and check PH of coolant. Check coolant lines, hoses, thermostat, and water pump. For sure change coolant if unsure. Other than that, drive the wheels off it.

Can someone please help me? I bought a pristine 2012 BMW X3 35I and took it in for a transmission fluid clean. It had two clean inspections two months before I took it in. It came out sounding like a lawnmower when I turned it on, the heater suddenly doesn't blow (It's still cool/hot) just doesn't blow. The also said there's an oil leak, even thought the inspection two months prior said there were no leaks and I had changed my own oil on the rack two days before and it was bone dry. How can I save my beautiful car from major problems down the road now.

I was looking at 2012 X5 35i which is known to be kinda reliable in BMW world. Only had 88k miles and tested drove, scanned the vehicle twice, and visually inspected TWICE! The third visit after negotiation I took it for inspection. Guess what? Technician said I would potential need $7k to 9k to fix the car if I buy the car. $130 saved almost a grand!

For sure they can be but proper oil service and less over rev will reduce likeliness of rod bearing issue. Stick with a manual and avoid SMG l. Otherwise typical BMW sturdy and only typical things like cooling system. Great cars though.

Inspection... from the sellers point of view, do we expect the seller to spend a full day for him to drive to a dealership for an inspection? Or do you expect the seller to lend you the car for a full day? It's good idea to get an inspection, but the logistics don't work. If I'm the seller, I would just sell it to someone else.

I’m between buying a used BMW or a Lexus, and I’m leaning toward the Lexus. I owned two BMWs in the past-one used; one new-and both had their expensive little quirks. Not terrible, but in need of service more than other cars I’ve owned. I have owned two BMW’s and my first was an x3 that went to 320k before we got into an accident. The second is a 428i Gran Coupe we got with 26k and already 2 years later has 73k and is going strong. Do the maintenance yourself and save some money. But we haven’t had any major issues. Lexus dont driver like European cars IMO but if you want reliability only then go that way

Should be ok for awhile but check service history and frequency of oil services. Eventually cooling system may be an issue, so keep an eye on those items, otherwise no big chronic issues.

I’m getting shut of my 318 d after five years these cars are a money pit only 87k had new clutch and dual mass eats tyres and suspension loves the brake pads and disks and now the dpf and crank position sensor have all but gone on it now with a huge repair bill im cutting my losses now
