Biggest tip: dont be too proud - look at used/certified pre owned cars -cars depreciate the most in the first 1-3 years - you may not he able to afford your dream car, that's okay. Dont screw yourself to get something you CANT afford - Shop around, you may get a car that isnt the exact color that you want but it could be 4k less
@mcesarey8 жыл бұрын
I agree with your financial advice to young airmen, but I don't totally agree that they should avoid fun cars. For many of them, their young, single years will be their only opportunity to own a fun car until their future kids leave the house. I'm pretty biased being a car guy, but I did drive cheap cars and avoided having a car payment until I was a TSgt. I'm an MTI now so I'll be sure to brief all my trainees about the car buying process.

Craigslist is pretty good. I got both of my cars from there. My first car was an '03 Acura CL Type-S with Navigation and six-speed manual. It was kept in pristine condition by the previous owner and was only $3800. My second car is an '03 Infiniti G35 sedan, also a six-speed manual. It was a bit pricier, and not as well kept, but it runs very well. If you look around a bit, and you know what to look for as far as quality, you can find yourself a steal.

Tip: Buy a beater car that lets you move around. pay cash. you most likely CANT afford the 5k car if you are starting out. save money pay off any debt first. then upgrade in 4-5 years to a 5k car since you should have promoted and earn a little bit more pay cash for it. and you should be good. Getting credit is overrated, debt is never good
@t-72k169 жыл бұрын
Great video, Buying an expensive car is the biggest mistake i see people make in the air force. For some reason people just think of the price of the car in monthly payments, instead of the total price. @connorriccilli7486 жыл бұрын
Depends on how much debt. If you can get a minimal amount then you can start building credit while in service so when you get out you can get a great score to buy a house.
@BritgirlTX6 жыл бұрын
Got to build that credit by owing money on something! Pay by credit card ... but have the funds to pay it off BEFORE it becomes due. In order to have excellent credit, pay your bills on time and pay more than you owe. If you have a car loan for 4 years ... pay it off in 3. If a payment is due on the 15th ... pay it on the 1st ... and try to be one month ahead on rent, mortgage or car loans. Hard work pays off ... and when it's time to get that VA loan to get the house ... you will have excellent credit and low interest. Good credit and money in savings is the way to go. Have an allotment going into a savings account and don't even think about taking the money out ... even saving $50 a month gives you 600 in the bank! Always try to put SOMETHING on a savings allotment.

Instead of buying a car, how do you feel about leasing? I get that if you buy a car being mobile is necessary, so if you lease it should be easier. Say I lease a mini cooper for 3 years, then at the end of my lease, I could return it, buy it, or sell it. It makes more sense financially.

Best tip is to get the most money out of the military as you can. Im a SrA and I get paid around 70k a year. Bah 3k. Cola 700. and more. I pocket it all. Bought my dream car for 25k. 1 Year later its 17k in debt only. However I saved around 5k. Have 27k invested in stocks. My car is an Evo X. AWD for any terrain.
@adambuckner45397 жыл бұрын
Mylf IHeartHaters 70k a year......thats impressive.....must have A TON of scare badges to be earning that kind of dough. Even then I'm curious how you are getting 3k for housing and able to pocket it all? But congrats I guess, though I'm almost certain something in your story is false. I know a few CCTs who aren't raking in that much, they stand to make a ton from bonuses if they re up after their contracts are up but don't receive a base of 70k and certainly don't after taxes and normal life expenses. Just my thoughts and experiences though...
