Engines and Unfinished Business

Күн бұрын

In a move I'll probably regret, I decided to buy an old and somewhat rare, V6 rear wheel drive car from another country, without ever seeing it in person.

I love wagons. I approve! I hope it cleans up well.

Glad to see you haven’t been scammed! (apart from the time, of course) Excited to follow the wagon journey

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Also, I feel if you want to do a "sleeper" build with the vauxhall, you should keep the ads on the side. Just adds to the this-car-cant-be-fast message you're trying to convey ;)

As someone from Northern Ireland generally a lot of cars here in NI that are in the hands of enthusiasts are well looked after, there's still quite a few Omegas on the roads here!

Love the new car. Nobody liked wagons in the US so we got stuck with SUV's

It’s the same over here, on the plus side loading children into an SUV is much kinder on my back 😅

My very first car I owned was a 2.0 Opel Omega back in the very early 2000's. Its was a 1987 model and an absolute nugget.

My friend used to have one of these with a diesel that did him very well until it dropped a valve. It still went for another 7 miles on 5 cylinders though!

Impressive, I think the 6 cylinder diesels were BMW engines

If you were in the US.... it would scream an LS V8....
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
Definitely, unfortunately LS V8s are super rare over here. Opel did experiment with an LS powered omega, but they couldn’t sort the cooling and it kept overheating on the autobahn 😕

Trust me they have them in the Commodores down under They are basically unkillable and most of them get around with welded diffs...

Not quite a V6, but a Saab B204 or B234 with a decent sized turbo would bolt in quite nicely! I’ve always liked the Omega, nice purchase.

I’m not 100% set on a V6, mostly just want something with more power. Although to make life a bit easier I’d like something that came with a manual in a rear wheel drive configuration so I don’t have to mess around with bell housing adapters. A nissan VQ35 from a 350z would fit the bill nicely. Of course this is all way off in the future anyway 😅

Oh, and my Oldsmobile has the same melty/sticky plastic thing going on (on the steering wheel). ...Though it may just be the steering wheel melting.

I had a Omega 3.0 V6 Elite - it was a great cruiser. If you want to get really creative, why not put an LS engine in it? I'm pretty sure it would fit. Not sure how much commonality/compatibility there is with the Monaro, but that might be an easier option (albeit potentially harder to find).

I would love to do an LS swap, Opel even made a prototype but found the cooling insufficient for extended autobahn cruising. Unfortunately LS engines are super rare in the UK, and therefore expensive

I think Northern Ireland is still part of the Uk so not another country as such--on another planet maybe. Good luck with the Omega.

Thanks 😊 I admit geography is not my strong suit, so I just googled it to be sure, and somehow England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are countries, but also part of the UK, which is itself a country 😖 at least I didn’t have to worry about import stuff as it’s all part of the UK

WD40 to cover up doggie smell?
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
I did wonder that. The previous owner assured me it was never used to transport dogs, just to advertise the business. And there’s no sign of dog damage to the interior
@Elsuntan

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Second theory, used the wd40 as solvent to try and melt the rubber. I have used acetone in the past to strip the goo off and it worked well. Test first as it can melt the plastic if left in too long.

I am... aprehensive. Cosmetically it is a bit better than the mustang I tried buying at least. No mirrors dangling off of it, and the windshield doesn't look like an unplanned urban road map. But I hope it serves your little family well, for years to come.👍
