I've heard Costco sells caskets. Anyone ever hear of this?

They do but they have to be ordered by the family after the passing when making arangements. So will take a few days to be delivered to funeral home not counting weekends. They have them on their website.

The Costco caskets are provided/in contract by the Universal Casket Company. My family has used them several times. Depending on the time of day for the order, determines whether it is next day shipping or not.

I have purchased 2 urns for my mother and my husband's mother for 99.00 (my mother) and my husbands mom's was 139.00 from Perfect Memorials online. Last year my son committed suicide 3,000 miles from me. I had to go out and work with the coroner and the funeral home. We were able to scatter his ashes in a designated place. I just got the plastic case to hold the bag of ashes. I bought 2 memorial pendents from this company to give to his 12 year old daughter and her mother These contained some of my son's ashes so they have a keepsake. They have anything you need and are such kind people to work with also. Hope this helps someone. I have two more to purchase for my husband and I.

Mr. Neal is so right, funeral directors largest profit comes from product (caskets, urns etc.) sales, they multiply their cost of products as much as 10 times) & then u want to know why the family chose cremation, because funeral directors are making a killing (no pun intended) off the family of the deceased. If u want a decent service @ a reasonable rate, prearrange ur services @ today's prices, even if u don't demise for another forty years. The price is locked in & cannot be raised. I'm not a mortician/funeral directors, but I've worked in the industry for over forty five years, so I know what I'm talking about, & the same goes for the cemetery (a separate charge), secure ur grave space & vault/cement liner, if required now @ today's prices, & the only thing ur family will have to worry about is, what to wear.

For that amount they couldve bought from the funeral home nicer, sealer casket. Now they will have to pay an additional fee to have the casket delivered.

Back in 1992 when my dad died there was no pre-planning arrangements made but cremation is what mom and dad wanted. Don’t know if it was an economic decision on moms part or not. He served 40 yrs in the Canadian military. The coffin mom chose for cremation was not good enough for him as the Legion and RCR wanted to perform some sort of military ceremony. The pine box was switched to a fancy wooden coffin. They draped a flag on this new coffin so it could not be seen at any time anyways. They cremated him in that fancy coffin. $800 pine box went to $4500 mahogany box just to get burned. And remember at the beginning, it was 1992, doesn’t appear things changed.

This is why everyone should pre-plan and pay in advance--you get what you want and your family won't have to make the decision.

Funeral homes do change an outrageous prices on caskets and burial vaults. And to further gouge people, they hit you with every little thing the can possibly think of like perfessonal service charge, pick up and removal of deseased, use of cars, use of chapel. I could go on and on and by the time they get done with you, well just let's say you're looking at around 9 to 13 thousand dollars or more! I know, I've worked in the funeral industry for over 30 years . Yeah you do have some honest funeral directors out there but there few and far between. The good majority are a cross between a lawyer, used car salesman all wrapped up into one. But at the end of the day everyone has a right to sell their services for what ever amount they want, and thats how it should be. Shop around as if your buying a car. Beware

I would have to say pretty firmly that you are wrong. I have been in this industry a very long time in every aspect up to and including ownership. I have personally served thousands of families and know many-many funeral directors. A few are bad just like most industries but overwhelming majority are honest. As for charging for everything individually, as you should know after a lengthy career that the Funeral Rule created in 1984 REQUIRES funeral homes to itemize everything on a general price list and make available to consumers. This was done in an effort to help consumers better understand what they are paying for. Unfortunately it also caused many funeral home owners to better understand what it cost them to actually provide the services on the required price list based on the format provided by the federal government.

Why didn't you show the low end unit that you mentioned. you are standing in front of the expensive YMS units.....Consumers don't like the cuts, get real caskets...
@michaelneal3432
@michaelneal3432 4 жыл бұрын
these are not expensive actually. Also, I do have several full sized caskets on display and am quite happy with providing a larger variety enabling families to select what they want. According to the families I server ( many thousands ), they do like the partial cuts ( these are batesville by the way ) much -much better as it has a less intimidating feel ( their words and not mine ) I do appreciate your comments

Brilliant PSA man. I know here in NZ many funeral homes are closing and that pre payment helps in the short term but I still personally think that pre purchasing a casket is a little silly. I admit I don't know the details on that but I think that one should consider if things are going to change for you or your loved one. You might, perhaps, have to leave the country or possibly you are no longer married so the twin bit might make it a bit awkward when the time comes. I suppose the consumer is right in these instances but I would say I agree with this vid. Think carefully and think of how you might like to be sent off. For myself I have a standing request they save the money and use the life insurance to go to the local winery, buy an old barrel and find someone to mumble the words as they toss me in the hole. Hopefully they'll spend the rest on some decent plonk and I get to go down drunk ^^
