Looks like a good buy. I would recommended changing the injector loom for one using sealed pins and possibly injector seals. Keep up the good work!
@retromechanic223819 күн бұрын
Great tips - yes having previously owned a Discovery 2 TD5 I had injector loom woes with that; it almost becomes a serviceable item. The injector seals also let diesel by and fill the engine oil! So did those too 😅
@hughmarcus118 күн бұрын
02 is the year of the poor quality heads so injector seals might be an idea. I wouldn’t normally say that. The earlier ones & the 15p are grand as well

Happy New Year! Great new project and looking forward to seeing you transform it. Nice to have air con etc too 👍 Sad that a project Defender costs £8k these days but a solid chassis and engine is a good basis to work from.

Nice price ! As a french owner, I bought mine (110 - 2001 - TD5 - 100 000 miles) 1 year ago for 7000 £ but with a lot of work on the rear crossmember, the bulkhead, the engine and the body (completely repaint it with Raptor). 7 minths of work, but a real pleasure ! I enjoy her a lot now ! Have fun with yours !

Not sure that this Lanoguard cover-up is ideal without first trying to do something about the existing rust - which looked deep on some items in your video. My method is to use a product called Exit Rust or Vactan, which are "rust converters" that I thin down with water and spray on using a misting pattern from a £1 plant sprayer. I personally do not use the Lanoguard as this is probably an ongoing yearly job.

Very jealous. Here in New Zealand that would set you back about $40000nzd ( about £20000 ) Re the steering wheel v seat clearance, I’d start with a smaller steering wheel or a bulkhead delete and swap the seat runners. Anything to keep those seats. Cheers, Phil

Defenders have by the nature of what they are and what replaced them, been over priced due to how good they are when they are doing what they do best. Something I don't think we'll be saying about the thing that shares the same name that is nothing more than a Chelsea Tractor these days. I was sad when we had to had over our Section V8 (Army) to get a New Defender Wolf as they were called for a short while before we kept getting corrected to the proper name, which after all theses years has been obscured from the fogs of my mind. I was however really impressed with how it went and the fact that I could in the right conditions powerslide it. I then just missed the sound of the V8. You'll get good results form Lanoguard, going be what I have seen of it. Not used it myself, it has to be topped up annually for the best protection by all accounts. She certainly has had a life and bring it back to its former glory will give us some good content to watch as has the other vehicles you have. Enjoy the shake down process and may there only be the issues you know about. Brilliant bits of kit.
@tonypacke695419 күн бұрын
I think 8 thou was a reasonable price, Defenders are never going to be cheap. As a Dinitrol fan boy, I have never rated Lanoguard, but it is popular because it is easy to do a truck the same day. If it's going to be a keeper for a while, I would have treated the surface rust and then chassis painted it. Then you can use your Lanoguard and then you won't have to repeat the process every year. Looking forward to the restoration.

@@tonypacke6954 great advice. So far, with some weeks in (following the prep) I’ve been impressed with the way the water beads off of the suspension & inner arches knowing it’s not getting “in” but I respect its horses for courses & for a quick application so far so good! 😃

Something else that may be of interest to you or your subscribers, Gwyn Lewis mud shields. You need to search for the site as it's likely to be taken down if I post a link. If you go off road, this will prevent mud being driven into areas that end up rotting away. Easy to jet wash after getting home, works for salt spray on roads as well. Not affiliated with the company, just some well made products that will keep your Landy on the road for longer.

I do wonder if a lot of that is down to supply & demand…. There’s far less of us over here coupled with the fact this is the source of production coupled with we can’t “export” to the US until 30 years I think; which from memory has its restrictions in that it needs to be original engine & chassis? All of these things are an upward battle for our US friends getting one. Enjoy the content & thanks for watching 😎
