This was the house that my father-in-law and husband built. After I watched this video my heart hurt to see what this place looks like. My father-in-law passed away in 2008. We scattered some of his ashes up there. We sold it and whoever bought it, built that greenhouse and grew marajuana in it. I saw when it went up for foreclosure. We thought for a hot second about buying it but we just weren't in a place in our lives that we could have. My husband and I and our two kids lived there for 3 months when we were waiting on buying a house. We have so many wonderful memories. That view was to die for! I remember washing dishes at the kitchen sink and you could hear what someone was saying sitting in the living room because of the dome. You wanted to be sure not to talk about anyone in that house. LOL I loved the floors, they were heated and felt so good. I sponge painted the rusty color in the living room and the blue in the bedroom. The master bathroom tub was the best most comfortable tub in the world. My father-in-law did put up the red carpet in the basement. I wish I could post pictures on here of when it was being built. I also have two arial photos taken from a helicopter. Brian could you please keep us updated on here of the progress of the house. We would love to see it!!! Thank you.

I love it too! 💚.. especially since I a few days ago started dreaming about a Fibonacci aligned housing and angles.. so the vibrations in the house stay bio harmonic/ resonant + super resilient to shakes etc.. and this round one is like the child dream of a mushroom shaped one lol ;) I’m Scandinavian… so.. but I love the mountains there! 🙌

What a cool place. My wife’s friend lived in a dome house here on the central coast of California it was amazing. Good luck with your project Brian, I wish I was young enough to help out growing up in the 60s in Topanga canyon that’s what we did and my hippie wife of 41 years would be right there with us. Good luck from San Luis Obispo,California and thank you for the great videos

For the fireplace/stove on first floor....make that space into a rounded adobe style fireplace with a big hearth and seating. Make the firebox big enough to cook in if needed. Whitewash the exterior, embed local rocks or tiles as a decorative asethetic. The round of the stove would compliment the dome shape.

You might want to add on top of the walls to get closure up at the top of the up there is with a brass punched grid and make a frame for it and insert the the brass punch metal into it and then slip it into the opening there and do it on both sides and it would be little decorative close it off but still get the transference through the punched out metal. I have done this myself on another project where I had enclosed heated pipes for boiler heat and we wanted to dress it up so I can taste it in a wood plywood frame and made openings and put the brass played in there and it was really really nice after was all stained and clear-coated it looked really cool so you might want to try that

the red carpet wall reminds me more of 60s decor. when they used to have pattern wallpaper where the pattern had velour on it. the blacklight righting and the cartoon wallpaper in the bathroom reminds me of the early 70s the flower children movement coming out of the sixties. looks like you have a very good base structure. with good pads and driveways going into your other levels. with the trees holding your property securely on the side of the mountain. cleaning up after hoarders sucks you and your friends have done a great job congratulations on your find and buy.!.!"

Brian might want to enlist, without spending too much, a design consultant to provide some ideas. I'd definitely "live" with the house a while before making any major design changes. Looks like a great project. Looks like a few tractor trailer or big, big dumpster loads to get rid of that trash. And Brian should definitely have lots and lots of photos taken now. It's easy to forget what it used to look like exactly once it's renovated. Looking at the "before" photos will be fun someday - yes, make prints and fill an old-fashioned photo album to keep on a coffee table for friends to see.

Do not take out the fireplace. The reason why they put it in the dome house is because they mold, because it is well sealed. The dry heat of the fireplace kills the mold. He will regret it if he removes it.

Talk about a total time warp! Was there really a time when red carpet on the walls was cool? Total gut job because there's nothing to keep. Replace the windows to those with screens and add windows wherever possible. I think I heard him say something about making it a rental but he's going to need to spend a fortune renovating to make it livable. My guess would be two hundred grand in materials alone plus a whole lot of labor. It will be an interesting project to follow though. Thanks for the tour.

"When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound" That line speaks profoundly to me. I would Follow anything Lyss and Rio create, but a Channel of Alyssa in Nature and reading a poem or quote, that would capture my heart and soul. Beautiful opening to this video. Brian found a beautiful home. Wendell Berry quote: "To cherish what remains of the Earth and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival."

Oh you are very in tune here. It wasn’t a good situation and I hope those who were living here decide to make the changes they need to improve their lives. I want to grow and create a great space for myself but not by stepping on the backs of others. For this reason I bent over backwards to try and communicate with and work with the people who lived there before, and gave them much more time and opportunity than was required of me. I had some success but not nearly as much as I would have liked, but I know without a doubt that I did everything I reasonably could, and then some. It hasn’t been easy but it’s time to turn to the next chapter of getting the house repairs started.

The whole place has to be gutted. Very little is worth salvaging. It needs mire windows; the views are so beautiful and to closed off I would skip the ‘retro’ vibe altogether. No orange or turquoise please. I would go with rustic. Wood floors. Wood countertops. Lots of wood in grey, weathered tones. White walls. Maybe one accent color; something bright like red or yellow. Lots of plants. Furniture in black or white or both. Punch the bathrooms. Accent wallpaper walls of large flowers? Or hand painted mural walls.

This looks like a fun little project I'd be into! As much as Iove the 80's for a dome home, I'd go for a retro-futuristic/modernist aesthetic. Lot os white, red, black & silver. Retro-Space-Age. Also, the view is spectacular! ❤ Also, also - I cringe when I see people wearing shoes over vintage 80's carpet! 😬 Either change to indoor shoes or go barefoot, people!

@@TxAggieJen - Doesn't look that filthy on video. Nothing some deep-cleaning can't fix. Might seem expensive, but better less so than ripping out & putting in new carpet. Maybe he's planning on changing the carpet to a different color. If the walls remain white, I'd go w/a bright red carpet for contrast & give it that modernist-retro-futurist aesthetic. The bathroom carpet DEFINITELY needs to go. Change it to tile.

Oh we have shoveled, raked, vacuumed, and used a commercial carpet cleaner a few times each - just to try and improve the smell and cleanliness as much as we can, but we will need to replace all fabrics and surgically clean all hard surfaces in the home to get it clean / sanitary. Then every hard surface will be sealed and painted and all new floors. It needs a total refresh!

Oh wow, I remember reading about that house being built ions ago. He has no idea what a gem he has there. Monolithic Domes will last forever, use very little energy, and are safe from anything. If he updated it well, it could go for millions. Highly sought after esp in wildfire areas like that. This place has so much potential. What a find. I'd be over the moon at a find like that esp for that price. Yowza. I'd totally fix the greenhouse because extending the growing season and keeping the animals out of your garden makes them highly prized in CO. You could use it for an entertainment area for now but still maintain that valuable feature for future owners. Man, I'd love to see what he does with this place and hope he doesn't screw it up. lol

Modernize it by new flooring, kitchen and baths but the structure will still give the retro feel, keep spiral staircase update railings and add reto pieces of furniture and decor to tie it all in! Easy peazy! So excited for him

This will be amazing once you are done! It has a lot of potential! I love the idea moving and maybe replacing the cookstove heater and leveling the sunken room!

You should have let the dog drive. 😆 being a builder the go dome is the strongest structure you can build. I just do not like the space limitations.

I know a few families that own dome homes, there pretty cool. They live down in Florida the hurricanes blow over them with no restrictions they are sound homes and i have friends in Belize that have there tropical dome homes. I took by boat down there and visited its beautiful down there. Was planning to go this year but September last year hurricane IDA hit here in Louisiana and put my sailboat 20 ft under so I haven't decided to buy another sailboat or buy a home on wheels. Looking at the most of fuel rising I know it's gotta be hard on y'all and when I lived on my boat 40 gallons of fuel lasted me about a month and mothers nature winds are free. And I've soloed sailed all the Atlantic Ocean side in 3 years and loved every place I went with a veterans pension with adjustments I live fine. Be safe always and be happy

Re: the HOARDING witnessed: FWIW- I was a real estate appraiser for BofA, WAMu, etc. and had Foreclosure/REO stuff as as part of my practice, but: I NEVER saw hoarding this bad! Holy shit.....HOW did they afford, buy, transport, NOT use the sheer volume of all that stuff?! That was insane.
