Jade thank you for mentioning how you have more protection in a marriage if you buy with a spouse. I have heard enough horror stories about buying with a partner or having a joint account with a boyfriend/fiancee that is not a spouse. The stories left me numb. As you said it is better to rent and avoid one partner being sole owner even in marriage. Both names should be on the properties.

Why would it be in the interest of the the person paying 100% of the house cost to gift it away 50% (in the case they are not married)? Lets say the house cost 1Million and I payed everything including upkeep. Why would I set my self up in the event of a break up to just give it away so the partner could just cash out without any skin in the game? It seems like I would be on the wrong side of that equation in any case.
