Some good points here but I find the best solution for all this is to rent from 6 months to a year first. If you dont have this much time, at least three months. I have seen so many foreigners leave after one year because of somethings they never considered or they just miss their family and friends at home.

Hi Larry, That is good advice. You never know what it will be like until you actually live there.

Good point. Exception is if you want to buy a holiday home then less time is needed imo.

Excellent advice, you didn’t sugar coat it like some people do. When you brought up the spouse dying or myself this is the exact things that I think about, Your honesty is very much appreciated. If I would have known you 40 years ago lol. Cristina you still have my attention. You hit the nail on the head on everything including the neighbors lol.

Thank you so much Grace! Unfortunately we have seen some really sad cases and I want people to enjoy their lives here no matter what happens. I am so glad you found this helpful.

These are all wonderful points, even the details you might not think of. I also wanted to touch on the language, being able to communicate effectively. In most larger cities, English is widely spoken , especially tourist areas. However, in smaller communities, you may be challenged to find English spoken at shops, doctor offices, grocery store, pharmacy...etc. Prior to moving, it may be wide to invest in an Italian language course so that when you are there, you can navigate until you are immersed in the culture.

Thank you so much and yes it is vital that you learn Italian.

@@Kayak-fz6mj hello I was reading your response there is an app. And all you have to do is speak into your phone in English and it will translate into Italian and they also does dialect’s,so this by far is the best app I have heard of until now , I saw it on one of the shows, they were the sponsors. I’m sure if you look it up by Google you will be able to get it. Thank God, my husband and myself both are fluent in Italian reading speaking and writing so it’s not an issue for us. But I get it, but that’s one of the things you have to take into consideration when you’re thinking about moving to a foreign country besides the fact that things are very different you don’t pay bills with checks and mail it in. You have to go to the post office. Wait online , very courteous and pay the bill so you’re not in your country you are moving to their country. We had moved there many years ago when my children were very young so at the time to get jobs and everything which is what we needed at that time was different a lot of promises, but nothing was kept so we wound up opening our own business, my husband didn’t like the politics. after 2 1/2 years we were back in New York. now it’s different we retired no kids and it’s just about us enjoying the rest of our years. Good luck with you and your decision. Always look at the neighborhood safety,the neighbors if you could handle them and then you’re in the right place. Happy Travels,Grace

Great info, Chris! My biggest concern would be getting honest workers for updates.
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLCАй бұрын
Hi Doreen, Happily we have selected workers we are happy with in the areas we work. That is, Puglia around Mola di Bari and Bari, Calabria in the Riviera dei Cedri and Tuscany in and around Florence and Montepulciano. We have been super happy with their work.

I'm in Tropea now after a 10 day stay in Pompeii. Don't like Pompeii and Tropea is much better. Sold my home in the states last Friday. I'm very cautious at this point. Love to hear more...Grazie

Yes, some places you may like more. Also to consider is distance from airport, shops, weather (even within Southern Italy there are big differences) etc.

I'm on social security now. I'm renting in tropea for now. I love Tuscani. But in the 7% region, I am not sure. Tropea is nice, but I am open. I'm waiting for my rental contract as I have my Fiscal Code. I have many questions... help!!

Good advice! I guess people most times just fall in love with a property and go from there...
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLCАй бұрын
Yes many times they do and they really need to start with the community and then find the property. Houses are easy to find.

We are at our condo in Scalea now.. Grocery prices, overall , are way less in Scalea. The overall grocery bill is half price of Pennsylvania. Meat is only about 20-25% less than the states. Other things like laundry detergent is WAY less . It depends .For the same amount of money, you get double or more ,the amount of groceries in Scalea. Also the food tastes WAY better and is much healthier in Italy. Food in the USA has no flavor and is mostly garbage....

100% agree. and I have actually seen people come over with high blood sugar levels and other health issues and have them resolve when they recheck them even a week or two later when they have been eating REAL food in italy.

This was so insightful. Do you have any video/s on buying in the cities, specially modern apartments? I like countrywide but I can't live there. I like the hustle and bustle of the city. So I would be interested in a small studio or 1 bed but I have no clue about the real estate in the cities. 🙏

@@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC Pleasure :). I always thought Italy lacked or at least the shows on Italian property lacked that part. Modern homes, apartments. I also feel that construction companies should built modern communities in these old historic and with beautiful nature towns in Italy. It will attract even more people, specially young ones who either wok online or have made their money and want to have a relaxed modern life. So, look forward your take and vlog on that some day soon 🙏

You mention driving to the train. Do you have an Italian drivers license? How did you approach getting one? Are you fluent in Italian?
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLCАй бұрын
Hello, Yes I do drive, I am still mid getting my residency but you do have to get your Italian driver's license if you are a resident for more than a year and they do check on that. I have friends who have gotten their driver's license and as soon as my residency gets handled permanently I can get mine as well. Apparently it is not impossible if your Italian is not great. The best thing is to enroll in a local course and study up!

One question no one addresses. I prefer Pentecostal Light type of Evangelical Churches. Think The Foursquare Church, or Assembly of God. Where can we find out about faith communities in Italy?😊😊
@maryannewilson3305Ай бұрын
A quick Google search lists pentecostal churches. I'm guessing that if you contact major locations in Rome, such as the International Christian Fellowship, will be able to provide information.
