In Philippines they still make the ww2 jeep design as kits and replacement parts because at the end of world 2 the United States left behind 1000’s of these because it was cheaper then bringing them back and this actually was good for the local population as it help people get back on their feet with transportation needs and so this jeep has become a icon to a Philippines people it has become a part of their culture

And it took about a month to rinse all that ... "goo" off of em. Stuff looked like dirty Vasoline and smelled worse. But it wasn't as bad as handling ARMY "Waterproofing Agent" that was laced with Asbestos. (yikes) ... A shiny new VW Beetle at that time cost $1,399.00_*

I’m retired from our fire department. We have a 1954 Jeep CJ-3B. That’s the first year of the overhead valve engine. I took that old Jeep where angels feared to tread on grass fire calls. It’s retired now. I fear that most of the youngsters on the department can’t drive a manual transmission anyway. We now have a modern vehicle for grass fires. It’s much safer and more comfortable. Long live the CJ.

Similar look like the '73 CJ5 I bought new for only about 4500 bucks with 'extra heavy' suspension. Heavy and stiff enough that the welds which attached the horn support to the 'under the hood' side of the fender, broke from metal fatigue, caused by vibration. Mine had a 3-speed manual and a V-8, ran like a bat out of hell.
@harrymills277017 күн бұрын
I just love seeing those old, inline 6s. You can get to everything. The head is heavier, because there's just one head. Maybe in that Jeep compartment, the last plug next to the firewall is a little hard to get to. But the old Jeeps, the old Ford F100s, the old Chevies, ... If you can get one of those old straight 6s, you're just one re-build away from a lifetime of use, if you maintain it well, and don't drive it like it's a dragster. They have great low-end torque, 1st is closer to what 3rd would be in any other vehicle, and you don't have to race it to make it to the next gear, even though the next gear is a long way away from the gear before it. I think there's going to be an explosion in the number of people refurbishing older vehicles. I think the new-old parts market might just spark hundreds of small parts manufacturers here in the States. OK, I hope.

That is the trend now Scotty. Going down south or out west and picking the bone yards or just cruising around finding those cars from the 70s. Even if they are not running its fine. You can buy rebuilt motors or have rebuilt and get rebuilt tranny etc. Get a car back toexcellent condition for 12 to15K. Proper maintanance and go forever. My cousin had a Ford Falcon and I swear we beat the hell out of that car. Just changed oil, kept fluids topped off and checked rubber, hoses, tires etc. It lasted years and years. No A.C but who gives a darn. I sweat more driving my newer car praying something major does not go wrong. I can not fix many of the new crap on cars. Old one, just need to find my old tools. My brother and I back in the late 1970's bought a 1962 Jeep CJ-3B from a guy that modified with 11 leaf springs in the front and 14 leaves in the rear springs and lock out front wheel drive. It had the 4 cylinder F head motor with the knock out in the hood for snorkeling and, it had 15 forward gears and 5 reverses. It sat about 30 inches off the ground with all the leaves in the springs and in 1st gear, under drive , low range you could probably craw fester that it would go , but it was all torque. Lots of fun. named it the "Urban Gorilla,"with a gorilla painted each side decked out with helmet, bandoleer and AR -15 with Bamboo lettering.

My CJ7 was easy to work on. Bought it in February of 1986 brand new off the lot. The spark plugs took 20 minutes to replace. Everything was out in the open. Today my Wrangler JL is impossible for a regular dude like myself to change the plugs. The air intake sits on top of three of them and you have to remove the EGR, Throttle body, loads of hoses, relocate the coolant reservoir, remove quite a few bolts and loosen a few brackets. It’s two to three hours worth of work. Way too much for me. A technician now had to do it and it’s costing me $500. Why would Jeep engineers do something so ridiculous.

@@Kathy00007. So , you got $20,000 or little over in it - you could go buy a brand new one for around $50,000 - have it depreciate $10,000 the second you drive it off the lot - and most likely won’t last as long as the restored older version . What’s the difference ? It’s all money and it’s all about what you like . Just my own opinion . Personally , I like the styling of older cars . Today’s cars pretty much resemble each other . I’d like a 59 Chevy - 66 Ford - something like that - resto-mod . Restored body & interior with modern drive train and suspension . Probably end up costing close to the same as a new car - depending - but I’d have something I liked better , more happy with , and will hold its value and not depreciate . Personal preference .
@karllued19 күн бұрын
Interesting thing, newer Jeeps are rated to have the lowest depreciation of any vehicle. The reason being because Stalantis has increased the price of the new ones so much, one that's a few years old was bought for so much less, they're worth almost what people paid for them. Teslas are depreciating so fast for just the opposite reason.

6:33 he is into it 20k and its a nice cj ill give him that. my 2017 jku i paid 22k and it books out at 28k so no the wranglers still hold their value really well. the other jeep models loose the value really quick. mine is 7 years old and was 32k new and still worth 26-28k thats really good for a used car. plus i have 4.56 gearing, 33" tires, and I have an overdrive gear that makes it get 22 mpg on the highway and the best of both worlds. reliability, mpg's, and i can drive it all day at 100 mph with 285 hp and 4.56 gears its pretty quick for what it is. plus its really good off road too.

Don't need air bags in that, the windshield will just fold down as you're going out.

Simple is good. Plus, that one will probably run after they EMP the US.

There's just something to be said about simplicity. I knew a guy who had one like this. I think his was a 1971. They were so heavy duty back then. You could fix them with a hammer.

This JEEP looks nice. Nice lines. I own a 2017 Jeep Patriot and no complaints. I like the brand and the look of JEEP
