Thanks. Very useful information. As a US citizen, I'm envious that Canadians can import 15 year old vehicles. Our protectionist laws are more severe so we're stuck importing 25+ year old antique vehicles.

Not sure how your system works down there as I know there are lots of importers that are even able to bring in new ones down there. I see a lot of variation between each state.

Hi there, looking at a Mitsubishi Mini Cab. Have heard the Suzuki Carry is least problematic of the bunch but does that make this Mitsubishi an automatic red flag? Also it has 160,000 K and is automatic. Are either of those characteristics ringing any warning bells because the truck will be doing its fair share of heavy hauling, seller is not giving any particular year. Thanks very helpful videos, much appreciated. 👍🙂

how were you entitled to use the JU auction system? I thought it was quite hard to be an user.
@4sonsoffroad6 жыл бұрын
It is quite easy to get access to view the Japanese auctions as many companies in Japan give this access for free. However you must be setup with a registered exporter in order to bid and buy.

Out of curiosity, since you've done this before in Canada, how was the insurance process? I've heard horror stories about RHD vehicles and huge costs, etc. Just curious what you've run into. I take it you're out west? I really want to get one of these as a little city cruiser, and possibly to lift and have a little bit of fun with. I don't need numbers, just curious if it was around what a regular car would run you or more.
@4sonsoffroad5 жыл бұрын
We are in Alberta. We have found that it really depends on the insurance company. Some are not willing to insure RHDs others are just unreasonable and yet others are no big deal. Most will not be willing to put collision coverage on unless you get a special appraisal done and insure it as a specialty vehicle. Bottom line is call around or better yet just call an insurance broker and make them do the work for you.
@0xsergy5 жыл бұрын
@@4sonsoffroad Collision doesn't make sense here in Canada anyway. Just don't drive like an idiot and the other guy will be paying. I'd just be worried about thefts, etc, just due to it being a less common vehicle. Thanks, I'll call my company out of curiosity on monday.

Do these trucks have a automatic transmission or is it just a manual transmission
@kenzsw004 жыл бұрын
There are light trucks with automatic transmissions. However, older vehicles are three-speed automatic. If you're buying an older vehicle, I would recommend a manual five-speed transmission.

Is it hard to insure and plate in ontario for exemple ? emmission test and everything ? thank you ! great video
@4sonsoffroad7 жыл бұрын
Éric Bourgoin I'm not 100% sure on Ontario laws. I know it is a bit more difficult simply because they are right hand drive. Easiest thing to do is give your insurance company a call and ask for a quote. I have no idea about your emissions rules either. The trucks are in excellent condition and would have all original emissions equipment in place. Our trucks have no issues passing mechanical inspections either. Sorry I'm not more knowledgeable on licensing as that changes with every province.

Ok thanks a lot

Here in Alberta it is very easy to licence and insure! We complete the Alberta Safety and you plate and insure just like any used car.

Éric Bourgoin if they are RHD insurance companies put you to the high risk brokers so try to find one that's LHD I found a company in Quebec that has LHD but their prices are high starting at 9000
@4sonsoffroad7 жыл бұрын
Good info. Again each province is different so good to always make that call to the insurance company first for sure. Also with LHD trucks they will be more expensive if they are converted Japanese trucks for sure. It is possible they could have come from other Asian markets too. The dealer will be able to give you that info for sure.
