Very common here in the Philippines nicknamed as Multicab... as they are multipurpose vehicles... My family owns the Scrum van version... so cheap to purchase and maintain... reliable for a small engine.

They used that same engine in the Arctic Cat 4 stroke snowmobile, as it was the first modern 4 stroke powered snowmobile. They later turbo charged that engine, it flew. That little truck would be great for a little short drive grocery getter, and good for going to camp, or other of grid recreation.

It's better nowadays at least in SEA. New carry had 1.5L engine and much bigger bed, while still maintaining low ground clearance.

The Suzuki Carry also comes in a 5spd, as well. Axel lock and locking rear dif are NOT the same thing. While some Carry's do come with locking rear dif, the Axel Lock is what engages the front wheels when in 4 wheel drive... similar to manual locking hubs but all done electronically.
@pontiacg445
@pontiacg445 Жыл бұрын
I believe you are correct, axle lock = locking hubs to prevent unnecessary front axle spinning in 2wd. Most USA vehicles which had "auto" locking hubs just do so stealthily when you mechanically or electronically shift into 4wd. Not sure why the carry is not the same. I only have a 93 carry to reference, though, looks identical to this one, also a 4 speed.
@aldude999
@aldude999 17 күн бұрын
@@pontiacg445 Axel lock, from what I understand, engages the front drivetrain on the truck. When you engage 4wd, the axle lock automatically comes on, then when you put it back into 2wd, axle lock will stay engaged, allowing you to switch in and out of 4wd while moving. You can also manually engage axle lock while stopped in 2wd mode for the same feature without having to put it into 4wd first. Differential lock will lock the rear differential forcing both rear wheels to turn the same amount.

If I could find one to buy, I’d buy it. I have my weekend car, but a year round modest hauler is all I’d ever need. For a young guy in the countryside, this needs no highway use and I’d be able to haul all I’d ever need

I want a kei truck. I don't have much use for one beyond carrying a bicycle around and they're not comfortable or fast but they look like so much fun. The Carry is probably my favorite-looking kei truck because of those big round headlights. Higher trim Carrys came with rectangular composite headlights and they're not bad looking either. Kei trucks came with some wild 4WD systems. The axle lock button in this Carry is not a rear differential lock, it locks the hubs on the front wheels to enable 4x4. Once that is pushed it is shift-on-the-fly 4x4. These and most other kei trucks were available with a rear diff lock which is a separate button. A 4x4 Carry could be optioned with the 4spd manual and a dual-range transfer case or a 5spd manual and a single-speed transfer case with an additional extra-low crawler gear available only with 4x4 engaged. The Honda Acty was available with an extra-low crawler gear and crawler reverse. The Acty also came in an ultra-rare Crawler variant that had an extra unpowered axle in the middle. It came with rubber tracks to wrap around the two back axles such that the rearmost axle powered the tracks.

I have a buddy that works for California State Parks and has one. He lives year 'round in his RV and uses his K-truck to do his park maintenance of whatever park he's assigned to. Right now he's doing a central San Joaquin Valley lake, so the AWD is coming in handy with lower water levels and mud flats.

The South American Chevy version is from Daewoo that license the Carry from Suzuki and they made the Damas and Labo, GM was a big shareholder of Daewoo so they have their own version in some markets.

There is another name for that a Bedford Rascal made in GMC Factory Bedford Bedfordshire. Sadly it loses out for a Ford Transit in terms of capacity you can see this on Top Gear where Richard Hammond has to tape a Bed to his Suzuki Super Carry unlike Jeremy Clarkson who was able to put one on the Ford Transit. Also, it's on the programme it's much harder to get into a Suzuki Super Carry than a Ford Transit

The 1.3 isn't far more power from what I remember, and they're only available in the non-kei versions that are slightly bigger (and later on, bigger by some margin). Around give or take 75-85hp for earlier "big" Carry's (some are called Super Carry, like the one you see in Top Gear that Hammond rolled over) and 95~hp for later "big" 2010+ Carry's (exception to Mega Carry which gets a 100hp ish engine. Also only Carry by name, but it's more like a pickup version of the [infamous in Southeast Asia] Suzuki APV). Torque is good for all of them though.

Funny thing is this is the same motor that’s in my wagon r but that motor is a 12 valve mine is a 6 valve. Though sadly due to kei truck popularity exploding I’m worried governments are gonna bring the hammer down and ban them. Maine has already done that and Rhode island is trying. I know cali has banned them too

I owned one of the silver van versions for three years while I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, from 1988-1991. Really fun to drive. Had lots of space with the backseat folded forward. Both side doors slid back, giving plenty of access. Could carry a lot of camping gear, and over a dozen scuba tanks for our weekend outings. Top speed was about 55 mph, which is an excess of their expressway speed limits, which are 80 km/h. Lotta good memories with that old van. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

My name is David Alt from Finksburg, Maryland. I own a 1994 Suzuki Carry DD51T that has only 6,990 miles on it. It has new 13" alloy wheels, new tires, new shocks all around, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new rotor, new cap, new vaccum hoses, new cooling hoses, new am-fm radio, and whole bottom is rust proof. I do even have $7,000 in it yet. NOT FOR SALE . Ever David

This is the Ford F-series of Asia. They're cheap, pretty reliable, easy to maintain and can be modified to carry anything. China also copied the design and made millions of their own variants. You can still get a similar vehicle to the Carry today in China - brand new.

Greetings from Japan. Can confirm: 90% of kei trucks and kei vans are white. My employer--a municipal board of education--uses kei vans essentially as company cars to get people from point A to point B. However, newer kei trucks and vans are coming in different colors. Nothing crazy like pull-me-over red or anything, but some nice blues, oranges, greens, and blacks. Seems that the trucks are manuals more-often-than not, but the kei vans are automatics.

I think you meant T120SS, because the T120 is kind of the predecessor of T120SS and T120 was not a rebadged Suzuki Carry. Mitsubishi Colt T120SS and Suzuki Carry actually have the same body but different engines. The same with Mitsubishi Maven, it has the same body with Suzuki APV but the same engine as Mitsubishi Colt T120SS😁
