I was one of the "dummies" when I bought my 68. This was years ago and I had been looking for a long time and actually had 2 sellers back out on me. Finally found a complete "barn stored" Charger and just pulled the trigger and picked it up almost sight unseen. Turns out there was A LOT more wrong with it that I thought (RUST!). Got lucky with a lot of the body and solid frame rails but long story short, I'm still working on it years later. I should be driving the damn thing already... I will get her finished in no small part due to these videos. Unbelievably helpful!!! Thank you for all you do on here.

Couldn’t of said it any better, I’ve been messing with Mopar’s for forty plus years. Guys and Gals that know these sixty’s and seventies Mopar’s know where to look and what to look for. When folks ask me about any old car and they’re not able to do the work for themselves I always tell them don’t buy a cheap pos, save your money and get a nice looking, reliable car that you want you’ll save a ton of money. I tell them to take a buddy who’s knowledgeable about those cars and someone to be the voice of reason. Great video Chris, viewers take his advice.

It's always good to hear this kind of info from you, cause I know it's unbiased and true. I have wanted a Charger for as long as I can remember. I mean the Dukes of Hazzard started airing when I was four years old. That cemented these cars in my mind forever, that and girls with great legs! I agree with you about the numbers matching hype. Granted, there are some real gems that deserve to be original and done right. But for me? I'll take a base 318 charger that I can build the way I want and have fun driving it.

Most of the complainers are the one's who are stuck in the 80's and can't accept prices are no longer 80's prices. We all love a deal, but reality is a real smack down for many. I tell these people go find and buy are gem Sedan from the 60's or early 70's and have the same fun in a cool car for a fraction of the cost. And the old saying holds true: "You can't build it for what you can buy it for".

There was so much useful information in this video. Thank you for sharing these lessons that cost you thousands of dollars to learn. You shared the cost of so many of the vital components but no one ever speaks of cost/value of varying condition from complete car to rotten hunk of rust. I know things are only worth what someone will pay for them. And I’m aware that a complete running driving car can be worth less than a mangled heap solely on the options on the vin plate. I just think it would be helpful to have a clue how much a decent 2nd gen charger should cost

Good advice, I did buy a 70 charger burnt orange on burnt orange from my dads neighbor a couple years ago . My dad kept asking me to come check it out I was pretty busy so he sent me a couple pictures and I saw that it was a RT so of course I found some time to go check it out. The neighbor had it in his barn since 86 and we had never seen or heard about it he new my dad was a mopar guy because he drove a 59 coronet and offered him the car.

Hi Scott I too had a 1970 Dodge Charger in 1979. It was burnt orange with burnt orange interior, bucket seats console and a white vinyl top that was dyed or stained a tan color., NOT AN RT though, it had a 383 Magnum 2bbl. carb. I loved it,very nice 1st car for 400$.🥰✌👌🤠🧔🚗🚦♥️🕶🎶☮🆒️🟠🏁🇺🇲🧰🏆🥀

I got drunk on Ebay and purchased a project 70 Charger for a good price but I was expecting to buy a lot of sheet metal panels, especially the back quarters and trunk because 90% of project Chargers need that anyway... and yes the interiors are stupidly expensive too!!! But these are 50 year old cars... I just resent the higher price for MOPAR parts compared to GM & Ford...

In the 80s you could buy hemi Cudas for that price maybe cheaper but those days are long gone, my buddy bought a 72 Z28 for $2500 in 1988 and my neighbor sold beautiful muscle cars out of his yard for around $2500.

Either pay 30K plus for a decent project and give it a thorough going-over, or choose from a bunch of less popular Mopar models that can still be had for decent money...there are lots of 300's, Polaras, Windsors, Monacos, Fury's, even 3rd and 4th-gen Chargers out there that would be more easily attainable projects.

Agree 100% bought my 69 Roadrunner in pieces- complete. Blasted, on a body jig, title, vin, data plate, drive train, axle, trans, k-frame x2, old crager ss wheels, orig N96 parts, etc etc. And got a great deal to boot.

One I'm looking at has a Dana 60 . It's bronze /Copper colored. 383 (seized) with factory ac and disc brakes. Comes with extra interior dash parts all glass has been smashed out of it but has 2 rear windows inside has 68 rt parts in it. But it needs a new ass but rails are solid grills perfect and all ac stuff is there.

Your message really speaks to me! My absolute dream car is a 1969 charger! When i decided to look at the market for one they were just way out of my price range. And I was looking to restore one, im no stranger to hard work! But even a rusted out roller just a shell was over 10k and that a base model, nothing special! What makes these cars so expensive a amature enthusiast like me cant even afford one? But i was able to aquire a 1970 dodge Coronet that hopefully will someday be on the road. I don't thinks it's so much as people "being a dummy", but more people that can't afford good cars that drastically underestimate their skill level and cost of missing/rusty/damaged parts and they buy the crap car they can afford, but this was a great video. Save up longer, keep looking, sell some crap you don't need and always buy the better car. You almost always save more in the end.

If you're just starting out in Mopar look for the off the beaten path cars..One example was a 1973 Town and Country wagon. It was running, solid, inspected, and ready to drive. It had a smog era 440 with a 727 and an 8 3/4 rear. A decent rebuild can pump that 440 to 400hp and 500lb/ft of torque. Even at 5000 pounds that's still respectable for a cruiser. I think it was $4000. Everybody has seen a Charger but when was the last time you saw a Town and Country wagon? Forget taking a kid to a car show. You can take the whole school to the car show.

I understand what you're saying completely if it's already been torn down all the rusty stuff taken off then the rest is or soda blasted and epoxy saved you a lot of work I bought a 1968 Camaro here and Tampa Florida I looked under it before I bought it look good from what I could see and I didn't know exactly where to look for rust in other crusty places so I drove it for a little while and I kept seeing more more rust so I took the carpet out lo and behold street signs so someone put street signs in the floor and got up under it and dressed up with a little Bondo put the carpet and padding in good to go so now I'm doing a whole lot more work and a little less driving .

I do love these Chargers don't gimmie wrong, but i literally can not find one of these in my state, if they are up for sale it's instantly bought by a hoarder, and one you know well here in the state or Wyoming. Which Is why as a beginner to restoring a car I decided on an 81' G-Body Chevy and those are challenge enough. One day if I should find a Charger I would like to restore one. The insight and information you provided on many of the different parts, pieces, sections etc. also seem to similarly apply to the car I have just obtained. I might have been a dummy when I bought my '70. It has the majority of the things he says to make sure the car comes with. But. There's holes in the frame rails. Big ones too. So I'll be having all of that fixed and done at a resto shop before too long here. But I'm not going to regret it. It might take some extra money other vehicles wouldn't, but I have a '70 Charger. And it's mine. And that makes me happy.

Always wanted a semi-decent or decent 71 or 72 roadrunner for around 40k or a little more or less. Seems they're up to 70k now, and the rest are rusted frames.

Great advice. I bought a '74 Challenger a year ago last October. Although it did run and drive the Canadian pedigree prob should have set my spidey sense off. The guy sold it to me included trunk pan, floor pan, rear quarters, front fender, rockers, and a couple other miscellaneous items. I did the destruction portion of the rust removal but a smart thing I did was hire a couple guys to put the metal together. I don't do that kind of stuff and as much as KZbin guys make it look easy I am pretty damn certain I came out ahead on time, money, and fits of rage. I bought the car pretty well (I think) so as I approach the end I will wind up all in for around $20k including all new interior and paint.

I like all the information you were spitting out lot of good points you do drive around and find them but one of those that I kind of like the old race cars and I'm seeing them pop up on KZbin a lot now where it's the old Circle Track cars that people are putting back on the road but back when I used to think of it people looked at me like I was crazy but I guess I was before my time but I was young and still have no money so but I moved from Kansas to Oregon and there's a whole lot of Scrappers so a lot of older stuff is long gone and it also doesn't help that I'm in the backyard of Graveyard Carz pretty much any Mopar sitting somewhere they've gobbled them up

Its like 1 out of 10 repop stuff Ive bought that looks close to original....and works like original. I've had people raise hell at me saying its not a problem getting them. I say save yourself some money and get one with a clean title. BTW I really enjoy the videos.
