1- unstrap the gun. You're changing the harmonics of the barrel. 2- take the scope off, check rail screws in the action. Remount the scope and make sure they are torqued down with loctite! 3- try different brands and weights. The rifle will out shoot you just find the rhyme and reason why it's inconsistent

You never want to put pressure on the barrel, it’s free-floated for a reason. You’re changing the barrel harmonics when you put the barrel in a bind with the strap.

Hornady precision hunter 143grain. That’s what I shoot out of my 6.5 PRC. I have a leupold varix 5 with the turret. I really think it’s going to be your torque or rings or bases. I had the same thing happen with my 270 browning. It shot perfectly one time then way off. I had a stripped screw on my mounts. I love my 6.5 PRC. I have a sig. Definitely un strap it!

This is not a ammo issue. the traveling all over the target that amount of distance is either, Scope base not properly torqued, action screws need to be checked, or scope issue. I can tell you know i have owned one of them Diamondback scopes before they are more suitable as a paper weight.
@zachbauer43782 ай бұрын
Torque action screws to proper spec (may have to play with it) Check scope base screws Check muzzle break is tight if it’s loose can throw shots but probably not that bad. I had a high country 300win and it was stupid picky on ammo and action screw torque

Try making sure everything is torqued to spec and I would take the ratchet strap off you could have the barrel in a bind.
@s.gfishing33522 ай бұрын
One thing is take the strap off, barrel is supposed to free float in the stock. I have seen people have issues with suppressors because the weight makes the barrel touch the stock. Pull the scope off and check the screws in the bases. Clean it good. Do the research of what the recommended break in procedure for that rifle is. If none of that works you have a ammo issue
@danielbell51402 ай бұрын
From the looks of it, you should try different brand ammos and weights. I just sighted in a 45-70 at 100 yards. It hated Buffalo Bore Magnum 300 grain. But shot the barnes 300 grain that was slower at just over 1 moa. But the 45-70 Shoots the hornady 325 grain ftx the best at 1moa. Just have to spend the money and try different ammos. And when you find the best ammo. Buy a bunch of it. Did have a buddy who bought a 243 savage that got real erratic groups like your video finished, we swapped scopes, cleaned gun, ammo etc. We returned it and come to find out the barrel had a defect inside the barrel. Dealer sent it to savage and it was replaced. The replacement shoots great.
@David-i2u7s2 ай бұрын

Wait! You strapped the gun down? 🤣🤣🤣. Please...why? Harmonics. It needs to be free floating.
@egertonridout41022 ай бұрын
You may need to take your scope off and check your scope base. They may have worked themselves loose. I always torque my bases to my receiver, make sure you degrease the screws and receiver screw holes to clean the grease from the factory and use blue locktite on the screws and please wait, well I always have, wait 24 hours for the locktite to dry. When you torque your bases down, I use 18 inch pounds, 22 inch pounds for my scope rings to the base and 18 inch pounds on the scope rings themselves. Hope this helps

I feel your pain...a gun like that with good glass should group sub moa. I bought a Savage model 11 hunter .308 package that came with a Nikon and expected 1" groups. Did the old break in 1 shot clean for 10 rounds using cheap super X ammo and got 1.75". Bought some expensive precision hunter and it grouped 3+", bought more expensive superformance ammo...4+", bought a box of super X and it grouped 1.75". Change out the scope, if it throws them all over the paper send the rifle back to Savage. Did your rifle come with a proof target?

Take that ratchet strap off the barrel, you don’t want anything touching the barrel. It affects accuracy. Also as you foul the barrel your accuracy will improve. It also appears that You’re slapping the trigger. Next try different ammo, every barrel will prefer different ammo. Try some different grain bullets and some different brands.federal gold medal match, hornady eld match and Eld-X are very consistent loads. From my experience savage stocks are…flimsy to say the least, look at getting a Boyd’s stock for a replacement or a chassis system if you really want to see what that weapon system is capable of. 6.5prc is a very good round especially at long range

My first thought would be to try a different brand of ammo i got a 30-06 that eats remington brand like candy but has lots of inconsistencies with other brand ammo, I've also heard of barrels sometimes needing several shots to get consistent groups after being broken in. Easy way to know if its a scope issue is flop it to another rifle and test it but my first though would be a ammo issue.
