We live south of Bordeaux on the Bassin d'arcachon and every year at carnaval time the processionary caterpillars arrive for a couple of months. It's awful what they do to dogs and cats but it's nearly as bad for humans. My friend stood on one and spent 6 weeks looking like Marilyn Monroe with the big sunglasses and a headscarf, her face was so disfigured. Our neighbours son was hospitalised for 3 days, he was 11 and his whole body swelled up like a balloon because he played on a pine tree that had fallen in a storm and it was covered in caterpillars. After these horror stories we walked our Golden every day where there were caterpillars and he never went near them and went as far as to step over them, he must have had a sixth sense luckily. Great you're having a chill time it's good for you. In France it takes from 3 to 6 months to buy a property, we've done it a few times. Enjoy yourselves that's what counts 😊😊😊

Put a drain hole in the floor that you can plug, use a stopper from a metal water bottle canister, and get a tray with a hole that fits exactly in the hole in the floor, and then you can pick up your shower pan put it away when you are not using it, put a plastic curtain rod up and use a black solar water bag that gets hot from the Sun, hooks in the ceiling for the curtain. No remodeling, just a few adaptations

Yes definitely do a rebuild! You could build a doggie bed sleep bed that converts to a shower when needed. You could make waterproof walls that lift up from inside the dog bed into the shower walls and folds back down when back to the bed.

Those caterpillars are no joke. I worked somewhere where there was an area where they are and we had to carry our dogs- they get in the paws, and human skin contact is very painful, too. I love that you have had a chance to catch up with yourselves, if you know what I mean. You‘ve got a huge project ahead and have done so much to get to this point. Health is truly the most important. Your presentation style is absolutely fabulous, don't change a thing, it's become refreshingly natural ! The Processionary Moth Caterpillars apparently just come out of the Pine trees in spring, to pupate in the ground near by; so the lines of caterpillars are searching for the perfect spot to pupate !! I was on a pine forest road in Extremadura last March, where there were so many live and run over caterpillars on the road that walking as a human was tricky, trying not to step on them, so for a dog it would have been like hell !! J
@campervibe10 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s what we said, they come down to bury themselves in the ground to become the moths, it’s when they come down to find their next spot that they are the issue unfortunately

In February 2022 & 23 in we did trips along the Norway coast with Hurtigruten. We learnt early that sailors drink/take ginger (in any form) to combat seasickness. There was always small glasses of it at breakfast and we always had one or two as we loved it and it certainly worked for us in extreme rough seas. If you have a nutribullet mix your own drinks to last during your trip, you need only have a small glassful a day. 😊

I agree with the wrist band for seasickness. You can also learn where the spot the bead sits over and use your finger to apply pressure in the case you don't have the bands. It's something like two finger widths down from the wrist. Play with the spot a little bit, when you get the right spot you should feel it a bit in your stomach. It's maybe worth looking at a KZbin about how to find and apply the pressure. Also, if you can find out where the centre of the ship is - length, height and width wise - and if you can get close to that area - it is the part of the ship that moves the least. Also, lower decks move less than the upper decks. Of course outter decks in fresh air is helpful but sometimes the visual of the water and the motion can actually make matters worse and of course, sometimes the weather makes that hard. Centre of the boat is best. Whenever I get on a ship, the first thing I do is find the centre. And I always have something I can use to get sick in with me so in such an event, I am not left scrambling to find the loo. Try and eat a reasonable but not large meal an hour before travelling. Some people think an empty stomach is better but actually it is better to have eaten. Take saltine crackers with you. It often works to nibble on them every time the feeling of seasickness starts to rise. They help absorb the bike that is forming. They don't completely take the feeling away but they really can help keep the nauseated feeling at bay. And motion sickness drugs - they can help a lot. If you visit a pharmacist where you are, they can advise you the best for your situation. Let them know that immediately following being on the ship you will be driving so they don't give anything that will impair you. There is at least this one good thing about seasickness: after a few hours on solid ground, it starts to disappear. But yeah, motion sickness is a beast. I heard a description of bravery that l quite like. It is knowing the thing you are going to do is going to be hard and that there might be fear and you do it anyway. With that in mind, in regard to sea travel - You. Are. Brave 💪👏💐🥂

A very good morning ladies, Hope you are well. We enjoying yours videos a lot. In the last video you asked for a good advise for seasickness.Please please try sea-band. Very simple and very helpful. When Elayna from Sailing La Vagabond was having issues with sea sickness she used Reliefband. It’s a wearable motion sickness device. another,piece of advice is when picking the cabin, choose a low floor, and in the center,of the boat. Not stern, or bow. You feel the movement in those areas the most.

for your shower--recess a shower pan with a drain in the floor. Literally in the middle of the van. Make an insert with existing flooring over a wood frame to cover shower pan when not in use. Plumbing can simply hang from the ceiling. Shower head / hose can be removable. make a simple ring of stainless steel to hold the shower curtain. My sister has that in her factory made Dodge camper van
@angiekowalczyk444010 ай бұрын
Yes, if you do decide you really need a shower in your van Louise then this would seem to be a good idea. Then you don't lose the space permanently. I've just decided to take mine out, two reasons. 1. it introduces steam/water/humidity thus damp into the van . 2. It makes my van seem much smaller, less airy, cuts off the 'view ' down that side of the van.

Look at the horizon as much as you can (seasickness is your eyes telling you something different from what your ears and balance mechanism is telling you)and keep your eyes closed the rest of the time. I know, not altogether practical but it works. Sturgeron can knock you out. The wrist bands sound great but do the above as well.

Kwells tablets. Seasickness is caused by the eyes sending a message saying you're not moving and the ears saying you are moving. The confusion causes nausea. If they both tell your brain the same it passes; therefore, don't lie down or go in the cabin if you feel ill, go out on deck or by a window so your eyes see you are moving too. Hope that makes sense.

For seasickness: 1) Sea Bands. These are wristbands with a nub on the inside that fits onto a pressure point just above your wrist, and it maybe sounds a little healy-feely and like it wouldn't work; but it does. 2) Green apples. The smell, and sometimes even a small slice, of a green apple can really help calm feelings of seasickness. 3) The horizon, or a view of dry land. Fixing your eyes on something that doesn't move with respect to gravity & the earth can also help a lot. &, if all else fails, go sit under a tree. 🌳(old sailor joke)

Couldn't you rig up an outside shower (maybe solar?) using the barn doors with a shower curtain across for hot countries? Lived in France for 2 years and lots of those pesky caterpillars down south. Best to avoid pine forests although they will find an isolated pine tree too. Some towns put traps around the trees so they can't climb down. Enjoy the sun, it's foul here today (Sussex).
