Do you have the original information like sales receipt or did you ever write down the serial number if that model has one. Jah Wobble of P.I.L. still plays them and I look at them every now and again. Nothing worse than the parasitic scum that is a thief, a Guitar is very personal so it's a huge violation and retribution is in order and justice should always prevail. I have had a Yamaha SG stolen back in '85-86 out of my apartment. I found out who did it. It was anole friend that got into Heroine, he had his scumbag buddy go in my house. My older brother grabbed his Gat and we got the truth out of him. Then a few years later, His '57 Gibson Les Paul Jr. that was my other brothers was stolen by another Burnout Crackhead Scumbag and I returned the favor and drove my same brother to his house and he said; Wait here and keep the Car running. He broke his arm. That guy was another Douche that I actually went to school with. Stupid F***** actually took it to Guitar Center in Azusa,CA. and got like 150.00 bucks and they took a photo of his Drivers License. So he went to Jail, and got f***** up and a broken arm for a night of Crack. I always like it when someone gets their gear back but so many times we don't. I never did. These are the facts and they are undisputed. Don't steal, and lock your gear up, and get a storage unit. Be careful who you associate with and share your info with. My good friend Dewey had a '63 Firebird and his Half-Brother stole it and pawned it for gambling money ? He never got it back. These stories are unfortunately fairly common. It's kind of sad to see an original owner have to sell his first Guitar from his mother but life throws us curve balls and you can't judge a man for having hard times and being the sole parent of multiple children. A lot of people are having a hell of a time right now with this COVID mess.

I wonder how close to the originals they will be. The paint was a discontinued GM automobile paint. I’ve talked to the original finishers back in the day at Heritage Guitar in Kalamazoo. Not too sure if it will be the same metallic paint on the new AJ reissues or how close to feel, sound, and manufacturing they will be. Nothing beats the originals.
@hkguitar19844 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason GM discontinued that paint was due to EPA Regulations. Back in 1979 I purchased a brand new White Pearl 25th Anniversary Stratocaster. Within a year the finish turned cream colored. Fender told me that had switched to new paint in 1978 and 1979 due to stricter EPA regulations and the white pearl finish on my Stratocaster hadn't been fully sorted out yet! 7 years later Fender had me take the guitar to an Authorized Fender Repair Facility in Akron Ohio to have it refinished to factory specs with the new Anniversary Decal plastered across the front top horn of the guitar. Way to go Fender, standing behind their quality even many years after the fact. Point being the EPA must have been a huge PITA for Fender and Gibson.

Fun Fact the first ever silver burst made was for Charlie Christian, it was to match the bandstands and drums the Benny Goodman orchestra was using at the time. With even the (upright) bass player having a silver burst. Apparently that version was based in the Gretsch drum finish. Christian didn't seem to like the finish, as when he left Goodman to form his own group he special ordered a natural finish guitar, and used natural finish guitars for the rest of his life. As for his silver burst it's lost. Silverburst would show up on Jazz guitars before the 70s, mostly I'd assume custom orders although pre 78 it was often listed as 'Ash Burst' which I believe is what Gretsch call it.

I can relate to all of this. I have an 81, bought brand new from Chuck Levin's with my grass-cutting money when I was 16. Pretty sure of the price, $678. Back then, when you entered Levin's and looked to your right, the first guitars along that wall were all Les Paul's, and I was lusting after one. But when I saw the Silverburst, that was IT!! Mine has more playing wear than his though. I wore completely through the neck, right down to bare wood. It has that same greenish tint and the binding has yellowed. Adam Jones said he thought the finish gave it some unique tone. I don't know about that, but it does sound amazing through a cranked Marshall! But it's a hard guitar to play. I pretty much retired it after I got a PRS Custom 24.

That model was the first Les Paul I ever played. A friend of mine owned it, and he left it at our drummer's house. I hated it--it wouldn't stay in tune, and the tone was really muffled. The latter was mainly because I was using it with the wrong amp (an ultralinear Fender Pro Reverb). It put me off Les Pauls for several years. Fortunately I came to my senses later, and discovered some really great ones.

What a guitar, I am very jealous! Enjoyed the tool inspired play demo, that tone was brilliant! I'm gonna have to buy the Adam Jones signature when it comes out now 😁
