Unfortunately we are not planning on moving to Thailand, but my wife and I are visiting Chiang Mai for a short break at the end of the month (from Australia). I have a question about the hiring of motorcycles/scooters. "Everybody" always talks about the scams, I was wondering about the risk's of getting scammed from a rental business?? Pre existing damage etc. I am an experienced rider, so not too concerned about the riding environment over there having ridden around Cairo and Vietnam, so well aware of the risks. Hopefully then smoke has cleared by the time we get there! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the vid's, I enjoy watching them, and will do until I convince my wife we need to move there!! Cheers

I would just go off of reviews. I have not heard of anyone being scammed here in Chiangmai but it’s always a possibility. Just use bigger more reputable companies is my only advice. 🇹🇭

I’m love motorbike and already see myself having three bikes. One probably will be a PCX for going around town buying groceries, taking daughter to school etc. one will be mountain bike or off road, and one probably a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for style but small enough to get around the city. Of course it will be one bike at a time until I feel need and a budget for it. I can’t wait until summer 2014 Tony. Thanks for showing all the bikes, I am salivating….😅

It would have been interesting if you tried to deal in your motorcycle and compare it to the prices shown. So it's not clear how much the dealers take? 30% to 50% additional?

I’m not sure exactly what the markup is on the motorbikes. If you have a particular model you are looking for, you could always compare it to the price that individuals are selling theirs for on Facebook Marketplace.

And I assume the new plate numbers are detailed on your bike registration document obtained at the transport office? I ask because I'd like to buy a bike in Chiang Mai and cross into laos, but I wasn't intending to hang around in Chiang Mai for a month (to wait for new plates).

New plates in a month but your paperwork for getting the new tag will be ok to use for the first 30 days as well as your purchase receipt. Tags will go to your tm-30 address.

Nice video, liked. How come Thai seem to prefer mopeds (low cc) over motorcycles. There are a lot of 50 and 125 cc (lightweight motorcycles). Not so much any heavy displacement bikes.

You can buy big bikes here, they are quite common. Thais prefer scooters because they are cheap economical transport. They are easy to ride around city also. Many are automatics and are easy to manoeuvre through congested traffic. I ride a big bike and a scooter. The big bike is tiring to ride around town but great for out of town. You don't really need a car here. But that's a matter of opinion

Hi I have to sell a honda super cub in Phuket. The bike belonged to a friend of mine who died in the uk, I have the green book, (in the name of the deceased) and tax / insurance in my name. I have no form of id from the deceased. Is it still possible to sell the bike? I also have original receipt and handbook etc that came with the bike.

In the video, you mention that they need to take ur passport for a week but @idkyoo in the comments below asked if you had to give ur passport and you commented never to give ur passport as the Thai law says you need to always keep ur passport. Do u mean that the shop takes a photocopy of ur passport or do they literally take the passport? I can see how that would be a little scary, as you will have no proper documentation for a week. Apart from that, another great video.
