The transmission was rebuilt, and the harmonic balancer was replaced under warranty. It is white with a beige interior, which makes it an excellent stealth car. I have a few small things to fix, but the car is solid at freeway speeds. Hopefully, it will serve as a reliable backup and hobby car.

We owned the E230 Elegance auto sedan for 5 years : it was a great car when it did not give problems - we don't have rust issues in South Africa, and like you said the engines are very strong, but everything else gave problems from the upper control arms, lower control arms, steering rack ends, engine pulleys, electric windows, rear suspension, rear CV's, headlights are very weak, break light switch failed twice, automatic gearbox issues putting the car in limp mode, sun cracks on the dash, Mercedes-Benz radio volume button runs away, instrument cluster dies, engine mountings, shocks, entire exhaust system also replaced. I will not recommend this car (W210) to anyone. We also own a W123 of 1985 in 230E auto format which through God's grace is very reliable.

@@DanMegistos Hola Daniel. Quedo a tus órdenes y hazme saber tus dudas y comentarios. Gracias por escribir 🙋 👍🇲🇽🇲🇽

@@ELPROFERAPOLDSCHOOL Te agradezco mucho tus comentarios y explicación. Me son de mucha utilidad. Tengo un W203 C350 con motor M272 y equipo AMG del 2007. Me encanta mi auto y le he dado mucho amor.

Spring perches on the front end are known to rust to the point of collapse, particularly on V8 models (E420 & E430), with cars exposed to roads that are salted in winter. This is a serious saftey issue that increases in magnitude when the car is loaded with more people. Also, this 5-speed transmission is not "bullet-proof"; on a few cars with only ~120k miles, I've known the roller bearings on thrustplates to wear enough to fall out of the bearing cage and destroy planetary gears. Finally, catalytic converter collapse; each cat was ~$1500, 15 years ago, and by now, this is well out of warranty. I liked the look of these cars but unfortunately this is not the "forever car" of previous generations, and you'd have to find a really clean car with an excellent service history to be confident that you weren't going to immediately spend at least 4 times the purchase price in repairs, to daily drive the car.

That is unfortunate, sometimes it is not the key but the lock itself that causes issues. Perhaps good to buy an OBD reader and see what the ECU says about this issue. This allows you to get a better understanding of what is causing the issue. Good luck brother.

Officially yes, the E nomenclature only started on the W124, but even before the W123 it is easy to see that the W114/115 was the thén E-class because of where it fit into the range. Initially the "E" stood for einspritzing which is German for injection : petrol injection, because the diesel cars had a "D" at the end like 240D or 300D
