The first thing I told the ID when I got my old flat was to box up the rubbish chute!!! Those roaches and lizards are able to squeeze through even the slightest of gaps. Unless the lid and the frame is a 100 percent fit (slim chance) they’ll get through. I don’t understand why someone would want to have the convenience of having a chute in-house with all the vermin around …. Not to mention the smells. It’s only a lift ride downstairs to the garbage area.

Really glad you brought this point up! Those little critters are just too annoying, and they really get through even in the slightest crack. The chutes along the common corridor is close enough too!

Other than the issues listed in the video, wondering if any other folks have less well known issues to share? Especially around upkeep (even after reno) or other unforeseen factors?

Hi, thanks for the sharing and info. E other downside of older flats is also that they only hve 1 toilet n 1 shower area. I understand it might be possible to combine them but it is impossible to add an additional toilet right?

I love old resale hub units. Best thing about them is the rubbish chutes. Very convenient. Don’t need to get out of the house or put on clothes to throw rubbish. Rooms are bigger too.

Noticed a lot of new BTO very rundown after a few years. Can see the exterior paint not done well and even cracks on the wall is like they rushed the job. Still prefer resale flat even if it’s older. Can never understood the bomb shelter concept and moreover you don’t really get the full Sq ft in a BTO.

I have lived in old hdb flats, old bto flat and newer bto flat…..and i pick newer bto flats anytime….old hdb flats made me feel backwards and inferior LOL
@StackedHomes2 жыл бұрын
Haha don't say that! You can renovate it to be really nice too. Old HDBs are generally bigger and have their own charm :)

my 1970 flat, had never seen any roaches, mice, ants. I am looking for an old one with garbage chute and no boom shelter hdb.
