CORRECTION: Your fuel is not subtracted from your payload. You only need to subtract weight of passengers, cargo, and any modifications you may have made to the truck.

This measurement includes a full tank of gas and any other fluids that keep a car running. So, a vehicle's payload capacity -- the amount of stuff it can safely carry after you've filled up the tank with gas and topped off all of the fluids -- is just a matter of subtraction. From this, you don't add your gas to be included in the payload.

Great video and I have gained lots of knowledge about what vehicle would be best. My question is not purchasing the best but one that can tow safely. I’ve always been told purchase the RV, then the tow vehicle but your videos serve as a helpful guide in selecting the best solution for my needs. I do have one question? On your formulas, specifically the one that refers to “Hitch Weight” of your trailer. If a weight distribution hitch is used would that factor into what your tow vehicle weight limits are with the WDH? The 1049.25 lbs with relation to value A. Is that considering the WDH or without? So in short, trying to determine what your hitch weight is on your specific trailer with your WDH attached.

Height weight (tongue weight) is determined without WDH. I hope this helps.

@@TwoTravelingTeachers , I noticed the WDH being used and you suggested to weigh the two vehicle with it. I’ve seen where some attach the WDH to the trailer to weigh it with the trailer to get the true hitch weight. The reason I ask is because I’m looking to purchase the same trailer and it’s the illusive hitch weight that concerns me. The scale provides the axel weights and total weights but the formula to obtain the actual hitch weight is hit or miss when using a WDH. Thanks for your info, I’ll keep trying to figure out the hitch weight of an 22MLE with WDH attached.

Solid video and great job breaking down the intricacies! Far too many people, when buying a TT or 5vr, base their trucks capes on strictly the towing capacity and typically far exceed their payload or GVWR as a result.

De ent video among all the terrible ones I have seen. I think talking about weight distribution should have been included. It's an important piece of the whole picture. I would also mention tires. I have a 2022 F150 with max tow and was disappointed it came with light duty tires. I upgraded to a10 ply tire last summer and it made a huge difference in sway.

Put the horse before the cart. Personnaly, I would not exceed 50% of the trucks payload and tow capablity.
