I buy a 1961 Wiley 33 cf concrete bucket. Then I modify the opening to be able to pour gravel/stone from a skidsteer

I see some of the comments saying you should have built a funnel on the skid steer bucket. That's a much more involved project expecially when figuring out how to flip the funnel out of the way quickly to get a scoop of gravel and then flipping it back down. Even with the funnel, you'd still have to tilt the concrete bucket to get more than a scoop. An option would be to build a hopper high enough to set the concrete bucket under in the vertical position that the skid steer dumps into,.. but as you said, the gravel option is a bonus use. The hopper is much more involved unless you find one cheap. The main funtion is to load and place concrete. The concrete truck obviously would have no problem loading the bucket in either position. For the occasional gravel placement, what you have is fine.

Jesse, you don't need the crane to tilt and slide the material back into the bucket. Just add a lip on the front of the concrete bucket and catch that lip with the Skid steer bucket and lift/tilt the concrete bucket. It will roll up on it's curved rails, material will slide in further and it will roll back down ready for another material load.

Another idea you do is, when the concrete shoot is upward you can make a attachment for the skid steer to lift it when a cement truck can't go to the spot. Load the concrete from truck and skid steer is hooked up to the shoot and drive to the footing and sideways without using wheel barrel.

Suggestion: put a short chain on the lift arm to keep the arm back a little bit further. Build a chute on the sides and load from the curved front with the unit standing up not laying down. Close in the backs of the side additions so you don’t over pour. I know this will have to be put on and off with another machine. if it’s not to high you will not need to remove it to pour. At 6 feet high you will be able to load cement from the truck to. You may not need to lay it back down. If you hook the elephant trunk onto the cement truck you can hook it on this bucket. I hope this may help a little and it might not work at all. Good luck with it, stay safe

HI Jesse, Please consider an alternate design. The wings could be hinged to the bucket (half inch rod inside of short pieces of pipe to form a continuous hinge that is easy to remove), and held open open with adjustable support chains. When not in use, the wings would fold up together and connect to one another keeping them out of the way while the spreader bar rises up. You would not have to put them on and off. This design allows for different angles of repose for different kinds of materials. Guide channels could be welded to the sides of the wing chutes to minimize spillage. I call this the "butterfly" design. That is a cool bucket because the lay down design allows for a low loading height. A problem for most concrete buckets.

Ask Santa for a left / right tilt bucket attachment for your skid steer. Mike from Dirt Boss has one on his Kubota skid steer. Also was thinking is you welded some angle iron on the front / top of the concrete bucket you could tilt it back with the skid steer bucket. That eliminates the need for the crane and operator when doing gravel.

I don't have even a fraction of Jessie's fabrication vision/know how, but it seems fairly obvious that the chutes should extend all the way to the sides of the bucket (?). That way you wouldn't have to keep the skid steer bucket at the very end, and it would also prevent bouncing, and errant gravel from escaping.

Could make gull wing style doors with easily removable hinge pins. Follow the rounded profile of the bucket. Make them as wide as that open section. When open, they would be wide enough and curved to help funnel the material down into the bucket. When closed, they would match the rounded shape of the bucket. I bet that arm lifting would automatically close the doors as well. A couple stops could be welded around the ring of the opening to prevent them from folding all the way inside. A large water heater tank or boiler tank might be a good place to get curved steel.

I really think you should have thought about this the other way around,. Instead of widening the crane-bucket to be wider the the bucket on the skid-steer, why not build some block-off plates for the skid-steer bucket so that it only fills up a section that is narrower then the crane-bucket? Just a suggestion tho, love your vids man, keep it up.

You could "complete" the cylinder of the cement bucket, to the top with two curved doors, which would be attached, by two heavy-duty hinges, on the existing vertical edges and secured closed with two latches in the center. When you would want to fill the bucket with the skid steer, you would just open them and they would serve as flaps, to be the "mouth" of the cement bucket equal to the width of the skid steer's bucket. My 2 cents.

The better solution is to have the "wings" on the skid steer bucket or build a separate skid steer bucket to load with. That concrete bucket is pretty purpose built and makes more sense to find a different loader assembly rather than to modify the concrete bucket.

Jesse, I like where your going on this bucket. I would like to advance a couple other options. 1) instead of the welded plates use some galvanized conduit ( 18 inch or larger) cut in half and mounted so the skid steer could come in from the side instead of the top. The split conduit would be pointing down into bucket. This I think would allow a better capture of the aggregate. Also you could make some stands to hold the bucket more upright and allow a more complete fill of the bucket without using the crane. 2) another option to try would be to set the bucket up on its stand and make the conduit come in from the other side. This would allow the aggregate to drop straight down into bucket. You would have to play around with these ideas and see what works! I think the piece of galvanized split conduit would receive a full skid steer bucket without spillage and would just require some type of mounting on the bucket. The key here is coming into the bucket from the side with the skid steer.

Same thing you have there but welded on where they don’t interfere with the hinge of the concrete bucket. Then from there add a hinging piece of metal that can fold out 120 degrees but no further. When you pick the bucket up it will fold them back automatically, but you would have to fold them back out by hand, haven’t thought of a workaround for that yet. Some kind of spring system that could fold both ways would be ideal I thinks.

Haha... everyone is overthinking it. Just scup the gravel on one side of the skid steer bucket and do away with the wings altogether. Even easier to fill it all the way that way. That’s how they load my 10’ trailer with a 16’ bucket at the gravel pit. The only draw back is smaller loads with the skid steer. But still beats the shovel. Cheers!

Hi Jesse , Good buy on the bucket. I dont think loading the bucket while it lays sideways is a good idea. Maybe consider it standing up balanced and filling it from top. You are a champion at fabricating. You could make a nice scoop for concrete or gravel to be filled in.
@RubenKelevra
@RubenKelevra 3 жыл бұрын
How about cutting the sides a bit lower and have the scoopes below the shackle(?). You don't ever need to put the shackle lower than the corner of the thing anyway, not even 90°. Judt put a stopper and a rubber block there where that thing can rest against when being lifted. You can just weld some C shapes to the sides and put square pipes on the chutes. This way you can either attach them permanently with a pin (if there's enough room) or remove them if you need the clearance in a tight space. This way you can make them larger and steeper without having to worry about the weight, since you can just leave them on 99% of the time. When you need to take them off use a H shaped pipe with 4 hooks and put some holes in the side of the chutes. This way you can just lift them up with the crane. If you need a sketch to understand my idea, lmk. It's hard to describe stuff as a non-native speaker :)

That's my thought too, keep the bucket upright with the crane and make wings/brackets for the round part so that you can fill up the bucket without spending the time and energy tipping it upright every skid steer load to move the rock to the bottom. With the bucket upright and wings on the side, you just keep on filling up the bucket with the skid steer, then take them off.

weld a kind of u form pivoting hook to the side of the bucket to fixe the handle in the hanging position. after loading you lower the crane a little to drop the handle, fixe it and lift the full bucket. You will avoid the bucket swiveling in full air and spreading all the content. In worst case on top of some beloved one. I've no example to show you but I'm sure you understand the meaning

If you could find an old 300 or 500 gallon propane tank you could make 2 curve doors that open up on hinges on the bucket and weld a chain to each door and to the bucket so it opens up halfway. Plus add flat bar overlap plate on one door extended 4 inches past the bottom of the door and around the bottom of both doors. Than weld a hinge flat bar and eye on the bucket with a chained pull locking pin to lock the flat bar extension from the overlap down on the door. 😁👍

Why not make brackets attached to the lifting arm going approximately 100 degrees past from parallel of the arm, in the direction towards the backside of the bucket when the bucket is vertical, then attach chutes on these brackets. In the video, when the bucket was laying down on its backside to get filled up, the lifting arm is approximately 100 degrees past parallel from the bucket's opening, leaning towards the bottom end of the bucket. This would make the chutes parallel to the bucket opening when laying down on its backside. When the bucket is being lifted, the chutes will rotate with the lifting arm and stick out past the backside, but shouldn't get in the way.
