Buying Half a Cow Direct from a Farm - A Farmers Perspective & Choosing where your meat comes from

We recently picked up our second bulk beef order purchased directly from a farm. Both times we have bought through Sheffield's Cottage Farm, a farm that we connected with through the Farmer to Fridge platform. This is a farm we purchased from initially after reading about their farming practices on the platform. They ticked a lot of the boxes for us on choice of where our meat comes from. Regenerate farming practices, grass fed and finished beef, keeping things quite natural and the animals all round treated in the best of ways.
This visit, the lovely farmer offered us the opportunity to do a farm tour and see how the cows are raised. She shared how it is different for farmers that sell directly to customers like us and it was incredible to hear what it is like on the other side of the experience.
Last year we shared our first half a cow order from them and then following videos on making tallow, Vietnamese pho stock and jerky. This time there will be a following video which breaks down what exactly is in a 1/2 cow bulk beef order (a side of beef). If these topics are of interest to you, we would love you to check out our other shares.

It was such a privilege to hear from Sheffields Cottage Farm about their experience selling direct to customers and seeing for ourselves how the cows are raised. Thankyou again Andrea for taking the time to share with us all, it was so appreciated ✨️✨️✨️✨️ The platform we found this farm is through Farmer to Fridge, if you are looking to also buy direct from farms they may be one for you in your area too.

It's nice to see people who really care for their land and animals so they can sell a great product to their customers. Well worth the money.

I so agree Pat. It makes me all the more want to continue buying from them.

What a great opportunity, Rachel. I really enjoyed that. I've not been able to consider bulk buying because I didn't have a freezer, but I do now, so I will investigate our options here in the west. ❤

That's wonderful you have the new freezer Deborah. It opens up preserving so many things and buying in bulk when fruits and vegetables, as well as meat is at a good price 😀

I’m excited to share more about that too. It was really good spending more time this order laying it all out. Then weighing and doing an inventory on what we got.

Awesome timing. We're about to order our first quarter or half a cow with our neighbors.

Nice video, we don't eat a lot of beef other than an occasional steak. With what's going on now we may even cut that out of our diet and I'm hoping what they are doing won't affect the dairy products. 🤔😵‍💫😱

Choice is definitely going to harder with the bigger dairy products. But I have seen some of the smaller companies come out on their practices.
