My eyes were leaking watching this. Almost 32 years since I lost my dad when I was 24. He was 56. It's crazy how vehicles connect us in different ways. We had planned on picking up a 78 Corvette in the spring of 92 and doing some work together on it as a cruiser we could share. Sadly he never made it to that spring and I said to him at the funeral , someday Dad, I'll get us our Vette. A promise unfulfilled at this point but not giving up hope. Your dad will be in your mind and heart every damn day , and it's the greatest feeling when you know they are directing you from above .

LEAVE IT STOCK, for Pete’s sake! It would be awesome, for you especially, to be in the truck, with no changes, that you drove in high school and of which you have so many fond memories. So we I say, LEAVE IT STOCK.

I think a truck with that much sentimental value deserves to be restored to its original condition. I wouldn’t do something crazy with it personally, I’d want it to feel like the same old truck my dad used to drive me around in. Super happy you found it man, what a great memory piece you’ll get to have forever now

I just want to say congratulations on buying it back. I’m so happy for you. My mom used to have a 1988 Ford Mustang LX Hatchback. She later gave it to my aunt for my cousin to drive but unexpectedly she sold it to her neighbor. My mom was not happy: I plan to try to find it. I still have the vin number.👍😎 and good luck with your dad’s truck and enjoy it.

I lost both of my parents as well. Dad at 12 and mom at 23. If I were in this position, I'd return the truck to 100% stock (maybe some modern brakes/suspension and whatnot) and keep it forever. Any time you see it how you remembered it as a kid you'll be eternally grateful you have it. Having a tangible connection like that to a passed love one is such a gift. Really happy for ya man.

Man this one got me balling my eyes out. I lost my Dad in October 2019 and it still hurts every single day. My Dad was the best person I have ever met and many other people will say the same thing about him. He was always ready to help anyone in need even though he never had much he always found a way. He would give every second of his time to be there for someone in need but to his family he gave even more. He sacrificed everything for me and my sister and later in life my son. He died of lung cancer having fulfilled none of his own dreams. He was a Nebraskan farm boy, a Vietnam veteran, he held a degree in electronics, he was a master carpenter, welder, craftsman and machinist. He built houses from the ground up and restored centuries old national landmarks. He's made by hand from scratch countless different items ranging from walking canes and incense burners to cattle feeders and wood burning stoves with every single one of his creations being a thing of perfection and work of art the quality being higher than what you'd get from any factory. On top of all that he was a wise and intelligent man never stopping his quest for knowledge. He was spiritual but not religious, he had a philosophical mind and he had a love of life like I've never seen before or since. There's much more that can be said about him and his life but none of that mattered to him because above all these things what mattered to him the most, what in his eyes was his greatest achievement was being a father to his kid's. Not that we ever became or did anything special (with me especially being an epic failure) but none of that mattered to him. He loved us and saw nothing but perfection in us. That's the kind of man he was. He could meet the worst person alive and nothing but the best in them. . . . He can rest now, his hard work is done. Thank you Dad. I love you and I miss you. In memory of my Dad, Paul Brand.

James, I totally feel your pain. I lost my Dad/Best Friend on July 8, 2022. We still have my Dads 53 Black Convertible Ford that my Dad has had for over 30 years. My Dad did so many car shows and won so many of them. I regret that I didn’t go to more shows with him. I agree, not a day goes by that I don’t cry and think about him. Love and miss him so much. So glad you got his truck back. Not sure what we will do with my Dads car as we just don’t have the room to keep it if my Mom ever moves. Thanks for showing your real emotions. I hurt with you. John

This brought a tear to my eye. My dad bought a brand new Ram pickup in 2013 and he is about to turn 91 this year. I will be getting his truck when he quits driving or passes away. He is still doing great and drives fine still. When that day comes either way it happens I plan on keeping his truck till I quit driving or pass away. If I were you I would restore the truck to like new factory condition. That I think would have been what your dad would have liked the most. Good luck in your decision.

I lost him in 2014 the day after my b-day so I know how much you miss your dad, because I miss mine so very much even after 10 years. I'd love to find my '77 Trans Am that I bought in 1981. I was a shy teenager & this car brought out my personality. Being a high school dropout & seeing how differently people looked at me, gave me confidence. This car changed my life.

James, I know your dad is extremely proud of you, and everyone here is too. He has raised you so well, and you truly deserve every good thing that comes your way. I would say keep the truck the same on the outside, maybe just refresh the paint (keep the same color), and maybe gut the car, put new parts it, make it something your dad would be proud of!

Fully agree with this comment right here. Think about what your dad would have liked to do with the truck, and move in that direction.

Such an amazing demonstration of love and respect for your Father. Definitely cried😭. It's so easy to forget and get lost in the up tempo, happy mannerisms that you give to everyone who supports this channel. It's easy to forget that you're still a human being. I'm so happy for you! Much love, Strad!

Love this so much! Just stumbled upon this video. I am such a nostalgia nerd myself and missing my dad who passed in 2012. I cried like a baby when my step mom handed me to keys to his pride and joy Red Chevy S10 4x4. When I was a kid, we had a 1966 Chevy Caprice wood panel wagon, which we sold in the early 1980's. I would love to find that car. ❤

You should keep the truck the same. The way that you looked at everything and was think how everything was exactly the same as your family had left it is just amazing. Just give the truck a tune up and save it for when/ if you decide to have kids and keep the story for them to hear and be a part of some day. That’s something I wish my family had done. My grandfather had an old mustang that would have made it through to my dad and then hopefully to me but sadly the had to sell it. I still wish that we were able to keep it or find it again but I didn’t think that is a possibility. Keep up the great work James!

Congrats on finding your dad's truck again, I can only imagine the pain you're carrying having to continue on this journey without a great man like him. As far as the truck goes, I'd restore back to near stock and continue to drive it as a work truck.

My dad has an old 72 challenger that he used to take us in rides in as kids and it's sitting outside. I'm not really in a financial place to restore it, but I would absolutely love nothing more than to restore that car. He put a 440 from a chrysler newport in it and it was always so much fun. built most of the engine himself. I would hardly touch that truck... It means so much all I would do is give it a good washing (myself) and keep it forever. Emotions are hard, I commend you for being able to do that on camera. Even made me tear up, I imagine I would get emotional too! I would love to get the old f150 my dad had when I was younger but sadly it was wrecked by an uncle.

To go on this quest shows how much you love him and how much you miss him. I guess it would be nice to restore it, but not too much, or just keep it as it is, as a Golden antique and very reliable GMC (your Golden Memory Car). And with all the good memories you got from your youth, to transmit it to the next generation.

June 16 makes it 9 years since I’ve lost my mother. It’s truly hell losing a parent, especially when younger. The only thing that gets easier is coping, but whenever they cross your mind it takes over all emotion. It kills me that she passed when my little brother was only 6 and that he didn’t get as much time and memories with her as I did… Stay strong and a great human James, we will always be here for you. ❤

This is so awesome for you! I had a '69 Chevy C-10, bought from a friend, it was his grandpa's truck, the deal was when he got the money he would buy it back. He died, then a couple years later a cousin tracked me down, sold it to him, so it's back in that family. Bought new in Safford, AZ, still had the dealer ID plate in the glovebox. I totally related with you on this. Restore to original, I hate when these are castrated into Short Beds, slammed in the weeds is the final insult, get another truck for that.
