I remember Schiff telling us about the silver "buying opportunity" in October 2012 when it was at $35/oz. Silver went all downhill from that point forward and eleven years later it is still underwater at $25/oz. That's about -30% nominal loss over eleven years. Factor in all the inflation over those eleven years and the loss is much bigger. Now factor in the huge opportunity cost of not participating in other assets and the loss is massive. Don't even get me started on his call to buy mining stocks...it's even more of a disaster. This is not an actionable nor acceptable investment strategy coming for someone claiming to be an investment professional. You need to take some accountability for the atrocious advice which hurt people's finances. You can't expect people to sit on these massive losses for decades.

I understand your frustration but you have to admit it appears so much different today in a much more negative sense. He does acknowledge silver is far more volatile than gold. I also think what is quite telling is that if you look the silver to gold ratio. You need so much more silver to buy gold compared to its historical mean. Also based on your own points, if you look at the trends for these silver miners e.g. first majestic, pan American etc. they are sitting at very attractive buying opportunities in comparison to where the silver price is just now. At the very least it looks like an arbitrage play.

Come on Peter , graded collectible gold and silver coins have same intrinsic metal value and based on history and rarity have increased value. Are you going to now call rare art worth millions of dollars a scam too because it’s only canvas and paint ? Along with a premium graded babe Ruth baseball card. History and rarity along with a provenance can be an excellent basis to holding metals. It’s on each investor to do their own due diligence like buying stocks :)

Rare art can indeed be a huge scam. It depends on the artist and the particular piece. Same with baseball cards, pokemon cards, you name it. Collectibles are NOT the same as precious metals. Collectibles are not and have never been considered money. That doesn't mean they won't increase in value over time but it can also lead to a sudden collapse in value such as the beanie babies or certain classic cars. With collectible gold coins the markup isn't too bad, no real harm IMO. You're paying a few hundred extra per ounce on coins costing over $2000 with the possibility of collectors wanting to pay your more for them at some point. Silver coins though? One of the absolute worst investments pound for pound I have ever seen. You will never get your money back with those.

The mark up on numismatic values is outrageous and it’s very cyclical like baseball cards, rare guns and watches. If you know your stuff it could be profitable but otherwise you’re the mark.

People are lazy and expect not doing their homework. Many people say the premiums on bullion are too high. It’s every ones job to do their discovery and do their best. Many people lazy , impulsive or just plain dumb as it goes.

You are not going to get hurt … do your discovery and find numismatic value where appropriate you will find. I do agree when applying that to graded modern gold bullion coins that base model falls apart rather easily. Like investing in anything…. find the data for your decision making process. I haven’t a worry because my basis is intrinsic gold value and then taking into grade, rarity and provenance. and it’s true premiums are high but for a reason based that criteria. Is it 100 percent perfect no , however doing your due diligence yields more winners than losers. As if you are buying stocks, houses anything really

Bitcoin's price is decided by supply and demand just like anything else. The supply is more sound than gold and the demand will increase as more and more ignorant people, that don't even know what a Ponzi is, learn that it's the most secure, most decentralized, and only form of incorruptible money.
