Macro analyst Stephanie Pomboy returns as a guest host on Wealthion to interview currency expert James Rickards about the highly-anticipated announcement of a new commodity-backed trading currency by the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa + a number of other resource-producing countries)
Collectively, these countries has as much or more land, population, GDP, nuclear weapons and other key strategic resources as America and its Western allies.
What repercussions are most likely to ensue from a new competing currency issued by the BRICs to compete with the US dollar's status as the world reserve currency?
To find out, Stephanie sits down with Jim for an insight-packed hour.

At Wealthion, we show you how to protect and build your wealth by learning from the world’s top experts on finance and money. Each week we add new videos that provide you with access to the foremost specialists in investing, economics, the stock market, real estate and personal finance.
We offer exceptional interviews and explainer videos that dive deep into the trends driving today's markets, the economy, and your own net worth. We give you strategies for financial security, practical answers to questions like “how to grow my investments?”, and effective solutions for wealth building tailored to 'regular' investors just like you.
There’s no doubt that it's a very challenging time right now for the average investor. Above and beyond the recent economic impacts of COVID, the new era of record low interest rates, runaway US debt and US deficits, and trillions of dollars in monetary and fiscal stimulus stimulus has changed the rules of investing by dangerously distorting the Dow index, the S&P 500, and nearly all other asset prices. Can prices keep rising, or is there a painful reckoning ahead?
Let us help you prepare your portfolio just in case the future brings one or more of the following: inflation, deflation, a bull market, a bear market, a market correction, a stock market crash, a real estate bubble, a real estate crash, an economic boom, a recession, a depression, or another global financial crisis.

Central Bank of Iraq Governor today wed. 08/16/23 just spell in codes a bunch of Bombs 👀The local currency is covered by the reserve, which is subject to foreign balance protection. Iraq’s gold reserves are 132 tons, and future of the currency reserve is tied with the yellow metal (…) personally I support this vision. We will not print more dinars, unless we get equivalent foreign currency, withdraw the damaged to avoid inflation. It is not possible to float the dinar in Iraq, because we do not have various sources of foreign currency.

I am a South African and the way Jim articulated the BRICS block's plans and its challenges was just outstanding. We are indeed looking foward to alternative multipolar world built on mutual respect, unfortunately the West has done the total opposite in the last 100 years through its Big Pharma and Military Industrial complex that has weaponised the current dollar based economic model.

When you have SA Politicians chanting «kill the Boer» doesnt really give me hope that the BRICS system will be marked by mutual respect. Unfortunately the majority of politicians are corrupt through and through. The secret behind the strength and success of the western economies has been the protestant values and the rule of law. Those values have been eroding away for decades and the US is «speaking like a dragon» more and more. If the BRICS build their system on biblical values of fair trade and zero tolerance for corruption, they will be successful.

BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subiect to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.
@monicavazquez280

Keeping some gold is usually a wise decision. You would be better off keeping away from equities for a bit or, even better, seeking advice from an expert given the current market conditions and everything that is at risk with the current economy.

BRICS seeks to create a new currency, considering gold's historical role as a store of value and medium of exchange. However, the functionality and acceptance of a gold-backed currency in the current global financial system are uncertain. Creating a new currency requires careful consideration of economic, political, and logistical factors.

Discussions on BRICS nations' use of gold have drawn attention. While individuals buy gold for its historical significance, inflation protection, and diversification benefits, it carries risks and may not be suitable for all investors. Careful evaluation of goals, risk tolerance, and financial circumstances is crucial.

I have been reading comments on why India is in BRICS and also in Quad. Well the answer is simple. India is taking care of itself economically as well as in respect to it's national security. India learnt from the past that it cannot just blindly trust the West in terms of its security. Moreover it cannot afford to put Russia China and Pakistan totally in a group which it doesn't have influence on and can be a security threat . India is not tucked away safely like Uk Or USA by it's boundaries with a increasingly assertive China. Being in BRICS can help in keeping China in a little check . As Russia will play neutral when it comes to India and China. It's a multipolar World that's shaping up, with countries not trusting any block but rather keep their options open. If you look at the Russian sanctions by USA and NATO, europe.. You will find that it's boomeranged on them with inflation and energy prices going up. I am sure if you ask the ordinary citizens of USA and europe they will say that they are against this politics of involving in the Ukrainian war which is actually a proxy war between USA and Russia making Ukrainians as scapegoat. Ukraine' will be the Afghanistan of the West. As at the end of the war what will be left is a destroyed Ukraine. Like Afghanistan and USA will soon abandon Ukraine as back home their elections are coming out and the politicians have gauged the public mood that the majority of the public of USA are against this funding in the Ukrainian war. Hence you will find that just like what happened to Afghanistan USA will soon drop out of this war. So in the end this war has only created recession in Europe with their energy prices shooting up. Joe Bidens policies have been disastrous starting with the Afghanistan pull out, having a spat with Saudi Arabia's MBS, weaponising the dollar etc. Anyway coming to the point of India,BRICS and quad. India has a very intelligent foreign minister Dr. Jaishankar who is not of the political class but from the bunch of those who became CEO's of google, Microsoft, Adobe etc etc etc and hence he knows what he is doing for the growth and benefit of India in terms of foreign policy. Modi listens to him with respect to the foreign policy of India and not vice versa . The public in India trust Dr. Jaishankar too😊

Some of the top commentators in the markets, business and economics have been sounding off on just how bad they think the next downturn might be - and how far stocks may have to fall. These days the best way to come into the market space is seeking guidance, due to side hustles i can’t handle my portfolio so i just work with LOREN LENA WALKER, a FA i came across via a recommendation from one of these KZbin retirement coaches. It’s been smooth since then. Cliche as it may I have made a mark up of 70% in profits investing 350k under her. It helps not to be worried about your portfolio every minute of the day.

Help me out here, please. Jim makes the point several times that the new BRICS currency would be different from the old US standard (under Bretton Woods) because it's defined as a WEIGHT of gold, NOT a PRICE. When we pegged gold at $35/oz., how is that not just 1/35th of an ounce per currency unit? Jim is smart enough to understand 4th grade division. What is he saying here?

LOL 😂 "F**k No!" Their going do what they always do White Russian will continue to enslave white people. The Han Chinese will continue to rip out the organs people they don't like and sell them for profit on the Black Market. The Indian Fascist will continue killing and murdering Muslims in India. The BRICS group can do what they want HOWEVER if there is no Gold window open to trade their "currency" for that Gold...then it's not Gold backed. If they do open a window, it will just take some time to figure out the arbitrage trade to get a hold of it. To be honest it's hard to conceive of a way for the BRICS to not get raided if they do open a Gold window and they will be in the same place that Nixon was at in 1971.

Dear Lord... a currency "referenced" in gold, AND taking themselves out of the exchange rate. If the US starts buying gold too, the dollar deteriorates, and if the US government has to print more money to make up the difference for lack of treasury demand, the dollar deteriorates too. They have the US government in checkmate... This is it, now more than ever people must stack physical gold and silver.
