Koi should be pleasing to the owners eyes if not for show. If he’s getting them for show then there are obvious choices that would be different regardless of how “rare” certain ones are. Some koi don’t show their true quality until way into their years; it’s difficult to truly know what it will look like at the first or second year of growth.

None of them are tancho. Just an fyi. The beni/red goes on the shoulder in the kuhako. The goshiki is broken up in more than one spot. Also not tancho.

I was gonna ask the same question as cichlids are an aggressive species and don’t play well with others, even their own kind. Also, they are extremely territorial fish. I wonder if the koi will end up with bites throughout their fins.

Yeah. Tancho koi are one of the most expensive koi next to high quality Showa koi. They are pretty sought after too buy koi collectors. Esp if they have a really nice shape red patch on the head with a good body.

How about them koi. I must admit I was really taken by a few of them. Great video man. Love your pond. Especially the waterfall feature. As well as just looking great aesthetically. It must work like a wet and dry trickle filter, for biologically filtering your pond water. Like your own piece of paradise. Lucky guy man. I'm looking forward to seeing them grown on!

You need to put a top on your koi pond! Many a hail storm has killed koi over night ! Summer thunderstorms are DANGEROUS to koi! The hail drops the water temp too fast and they go into shock. Also you need a top for blue herons that will walk into your pond and swallow your koi. I also live near the water. I have restocked koi for customers who did not do what I told them.

I would love to have Koi in my pond, but our country does not allow people to have them as they are a threat to our waterways. We already have a problem with them and they are classed as a pest. The Koi in the wild are not pretty ones. We can be fined for having a Koi. So I just have to enjoy Koi on you tube. Kim from New Zealand

All koi originally came from the boring Asian carp but then some of their offspring showed colors and those were kept and bred. Eventually, they started breeding the variety of colors and patterns we have now. Wouldn’t be surprised to find a “mutate” from the ones you have which could spawn generations of beautiful ones if raised and bred.
