do big bore 426, stage 2 hot cam, some head porting, UNI air filter with no lids, a exhaust pipe and re-jet the carb. Would be nice to see that !
@mikeschlup52793 жыл бұрын
I have heard from 2 or 3 guys hot cams can be junk...these do not take a radical big bore kit...without a new crank etc...a little more power will not be a problem.i ran into a guy who had a 440 kit and his bottom end shortly after rebuild.

My 2000 400ex had a HRC 440 big bore kit with cam and a Curtis sparks pipe and silencer it was an absolute beast I regret selling it !!!!

The garage updates are looking great, Joe! 👍 You might need a parts washer. Then all of the work you put into these machines will reflect the work. That 400 is going to be a BEAST when you're finished.

I have a 2005 Honda 400 ex that I put in the 88mm piston and a Hot Cams Stage 2 hotcam. Still retains the low end grunt but the cam helps alot with mid to upper power range. As you bulletproof motors. As for the 450r they have a much higher compression which is what it was made for the track.

I got to ride my brother's 400ex with a 440 kit and it was spicy ! Definitely heaps of a different machine than his stock one. You can't overbore the stock cylinder too much without overheating issues and or not running right on pump gas if you get over 10:1 compression. If anything, go 20 thousandths over on the stock cylinder with a forged Piston and bigger cam the big bore kits aren't cheap.

Truth! Good advice for Joe. I would rebuild to stock form myself. Athena top end kit..new maier plastics an sweet gripper seat cover. Be worth 2800.

$800? Dang that’s more what I paid for mine! I paid $650 for my 2000 red 400ex that is pretty much stock with new tires and fmf exhaust and power bomb headers! It runs & drives great and all it needed complete rear end replaced except the Axel since I was able to salvage it! I must of got a smoking deal! I just got in to riding these quads man and I Love watching your videos! Keep it up!

I just bought a yellow 05 , the guy i bought it from knew nothing about it ,tore it apart and it was a 440 big bore with 11.1 wiseco piston with stage 2 Hotcam, i put a new cylinder and rings and cam chain and bigger header pipe with a HMF muffler and its just as fast as my 450, they get fast bro, i also have a bone stock super clean 06 so i can get a feel on how much faster they get when you start modding them, it sounds awsome.

Yep 3500$ is about the norm don’t go crazy on the bore people say 440 overheats I got a 416 kit with a stage 3 cam and it rips! It has been running good since February 2020. I bought my kit from BP Racing on eBay. I haven’t gone to 426 but haven’t heard anything bad about them

27:48 You can dissolve and remove the aluminum on the cylinder wall using muriatic acid. If the coating isn't chipped, you can sometimes get away with it.

I have 99 400ex. Just this past summer I bought a brand new 426 big bore kit and crank. Had a 426 kit when I bought it. It has a web stage 2 cam and a wiseco crank and a keihin 39mm carb. It's pretty fast and lots of fun. The top end speed is where the big bore shines. i noticed when searching for a 426 kit were hard to find. I wouldn't go 440.
@rhiantaylor34463 жыл бұрын
The valves did look OK but to be sure I would have applied pressurised air to the spark plug hole to see where it comes out - or - after taking head off, replace plug, set it on bench on its back and fill combustion chamber with kerosene or gas to see if and where it leaks out - ilet port or exhaust. That rod looked like it had gotten very hot.
@erichemmelgarn46233 жыл бұрын
Just keep it stock bore or a 416, you’ll ruin your crank doing a 440
@BWADaniel3 жыл бұрын
I did a 10:1 Wiseco piston on the stock 397cm bore, stage 2 hot cams & new valves and springs along with 2 four inch spal fans on the oil cooler. My baby is scary fast lol. You don’t need a big bore kit. It becomes unreliable at that point.

@johnnytwotimes78313 жыл бұрын
Just grab a 426 with stage two cam and a HMF exaust . Trust. Yes it will keep up with the 450 maybe even smoke it. The 440 will definitely smoke it depending on the weight of the riders on each bike. Also if you want to enjoy it alittle more widen the rear axel a half inch on each side don't really need to do the front a arms but... It would corner so much better.

Bro do a 426 13:1 they haul ass and pair it with just a regular hotcam stage 2 and I know what everyone says about head studs but you really don’t need them.🤙👍 and a 4” spal cooling fan goes a long long way. You get more power from compression than from cc’s

Used ATVs are stupidly expensive now, including here in Alaska. They are also getting harder to find in good used condition and not clapped out. Starting on January 1st, 2022 it will be legal to drive ATVs on public roads that are 45mph and under. Of course, this is with them being licensed and registered accordingly. My local coastal is not allowing ATVs in town sadly.

You'll need some cooling fins, oversized oil cooler, and bigger oil tank. I had a 400ex with a big bore and they run hot. You'll need a hotcam, some clean-up porting that you can do yourself, full exhuast, preferably curtis sparks, and a trx450r carb, That's probably the best way to setup a big bore 400ex

I have been curious for over a year now so I gotta ask. Does anyone on KZbin check spark plug gap ? No channel has even mentioned it in over a year of watching these types of videos. And isn't the vehicle's stock jetting based off sea level elevation ? I haven't messed with engine's for over 35 years, so may be out of the loop or forgetful. But, i don't think they sell different spark plugs for every engine. And I have never put a plug in any type of vehicle that didn't get it's gap checked or adjusted. Just curious. Cheers
@johnbeaudette5833 жыл бұрын
@@titletownclowns1545 Interesting. I wonder if that is why channels don't mention it. They think it is some secret sauce. Lol. Last time I really worked on small engines was when I was 12 ish years old, as far as I knew all this was basic knowledge. I guess having multiple mechanics in my family was more beneficial than I knew. Cheers

@@titletownclowns1545 I agree. Never did any racing but, knew about some of that. Thanks for the info.

Spark plug gap is set at the factory. Unless the spark plug has been dropped, or handled badly, I've never had to adjust any new spark plug gap. If the spark plug is old, and has done a lot of miles, the gap will increase with wear.
