I went even older and bought a 98 Bentley Continental R - It had an annoying rattle in one of the door panels so I stripped it down and found some masking tape attached to the rear of the door capping with a name on it. I eventually tracked down the person via the BT phone book and gave him a call. It was the very man who had left that sticker on the car, apparently he was in the inspection department and this bit of wood had been rejected by him. He was now in his early 80's and we spoke for 1hour on the phone discussing everything Bentley. This is what brings these cars alive, real people and real history - I doubt it could happen to any other brand. Great video by the way and yes I would love to know the running costs etc.

Bob I am also 77 and always admired Rolls Royce's. I have been very close to buying a Shadow over the years but always put it off. I bought Jaguars Instead because I saw them as the next best thing in luxury and much easier to maintain myself. However, Jaguar have completely lost it, so I am stuck with a 1996 LWB XJ6. Today the only Rolls Royce I would buy is a Shadow. I just want a comfortable ride. I do not need a V12 with turbo chargers. I have never been impressed with gadgets or popular names just to impress. And like most modern cars they have become over engineered.

@richardautenzio8117 Hi Richard, Unbelievable coincidence, I too have been attracted to Jaguar, 1 XJS and 3 X Type. Loved Jaguars maybe not as much now but still pretty good.👍
@richardautenzio811714 күн бұрын
@@Bob007 Well there you go Bob! My first car was a Jaguar 420 and my second was a Daimler Soverign XJ6 in the mid 70's. I am also on to my third X Type. I finally settled on a 2006 2.1ltr petrol because I found a one owner with very low milage on it, I found the 2.1 Petrol FWD a lot easier to work on than the 3ltr AWD. We use it for shopping and just small trips. For the longer trips we use the 1996 XJ6. It has a lovely smooth ride. And as for the Jaguar cars that followed these cars of this period, they have lost their tradition class and their very special niche market. Today everyone wants speed and it's somewhat like buying a speed boat for a swimming pool, because the cars are made to go faster that is usefully necessary, The modern cars are over engineered to look alike for speed and have lots of warped panels designs. William Lyons went out of his way to avoid panels on cars that created poor shadow lines. He loved Rolls Royce interiors and his sales motto was Grace Space and Pace. Pace was speed but it was last on the list. I don't think we will ever see cars like Jaguar ever made again. My grandsons know better because they have experiences our cars but most young people are being sold the Emperiors new clothes.

You can’t beat Rolls-Royce for comfort and ride quality. An absolute bargain at £45,000. Because of the size and the power of the engine, it has probably never been thrashed. So 100,000 miles is probably absolutely fine, providing it has been serviced and looked after. Like you said… You are the custodian, as someone would be in a grade 1/2 listed building. Providing you have deep pockets. 😎

Love this video. Im currently looking to buy an 04 RR Phantom. Im in my mid-20s, so my mind kind of tends to focus on technology, I have thought about 2013 RR Ghost, 2017 Bentayga, 2012 Bentley Mulsane, 2013 -2016 Bentley GT / Flying Spur, but there is something about first gen Phantoms which is unlike anything ever to exist, even the new Phantoms. I certainly believe in the future this car will be worth an extensive value, Im looking for this to be a Sunday collector's piece. Any advice? This would be a purchase from the heart BTW, Please make more videos!
@ChrisEdworthy3 ай бұрын
All of the cars you listed will be expensive to maintain. New will be better potential. I think the Phantom has hit the bottom on price. Bentley tends to keep going lower. Because there are more produced they don't hold their value quite as well. Regarding tech. I'd buy the least tech car you can. It ages a car. Mine has a screen but can be hidden by a clock. Even a 2016 Bentley will have ageing tech. I'd avoid rear screens or anything like that. As they get older collecting becomes more about the vehicle and the experience, old tech won't enhance that. So get the best-maintained Phantom (I'm biased) or Bentley and look after it well. Good luck and let me know what you buy! Thanks for watching! New Rolls video tomorrow!

Can you please sort out your audio. Speech in one ear and Music in the other does not make for pleasant watching 🙂

I may have to remake this video to sort it. I've tried to sort it afterward and I can't seem to. Thanks for watching though

Just remember that there is no such thing as a cheap Rolls_Royce then and now. The most expensive car 🚙 you can ever buy is a so - called cheap Rolls_Royce !.

I totally agree. Something pulled in my heart strings and said you have to buy chassis No. 4 or it will just die like so many! Thanks for the comment and watching! 👍

with its age... are any interior parts sunfaded, cracked... is there any odor of degrading seat/dash padding, .... every other car that age has plastic rot and the smell of mildew😂
@ChrisEdworthy3 ай бұрын
None of that, all pretty good. It has been used which I think helps. Thanks for watching.

@@ChrisEdworthy gonna get me one... quality is a rarity today.... $80k for a good condition used RR is cheap compared to $80k for a new Chevy Suburban

Sorry all, although Rolls Royce do give a very nice ride and the interior is really well finished which no one can deny, I just think that all the models are just dam right ugly. I had a freind who had a phantom. Beautiful interior, beautiful ride but as far as looks go, no thanks.

@@ChrisEdworthy not much apart from the engine the transmission the drive train the body the electrics. Rolls Royce is now just a paint and trim shop for BMW.
