This is a very smart move from vacheron as other brands continue to hike prices and prices are driven up on the secondary market. Many people starting a collection who wants to enter the holy trinity will look at this and consider this. No dealer waitlist, more affordable than other watches out there (affordable being relative to haute horology). Vacheron/reichmont are playing the log term game, going after the next generation of watch enthusiasts.

Rolex, Patek, Iwc, AP, GO, GS etc all do not have geneva seal, it doesn't mean much. Vacheron didn't use an in house movement for the first 250 years of its operations, so that doesn't mean much either. Beautiful watch.

How’s it going. Nice pick up . Funny that you mentioned the IWC ingenieur . I visited the Sydney boutique a week or so ago and after trying on a few pilot watches and the Portugieser , the client assistant recommended that he had something special not for display. I waited anxiously and he emerged with two ingenieurs , the black dial you mentioned here and a white dial as well . Surprisingly cool look on my 16cm wrist . I did not pick it up , still kern on the grand Seiko gmt high beat SBGJ201 😀

The 56 is part of my collection among Royal Oak and Overseas and it's honestly an amazing daily watch combining sportiness and elegance . Given the price , it's a better choice compared to a Submariner or GMT ( if you can get it at retail ) . Let alone the premium , I'd suggest the 56 any day . The movement is nicely finished and it's made by Val Fleurier .

I have a feeling in a couple years this will be a “hype piece”. Vacheron is just now starting to catch fire for some strange to get more and well deserved appreciation. Unless people are complete Idiots, it only cost a couple grand more than a fluted bezel Datejust if you want to wait for it from the AD if not it’s the same. But maybe not, people are idiots. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Regards to the IWC watch, i love that watch a lot. Pure genta designed watch much better than the current model.Only i think for u it might be quite big as the size is 42.5 and thickness at 15mm since there's a soft iron plate to prevent it from magnatic field. And btw i think if u want to purchase that watch, go look up the salmon dial which is a limited version released in japan and u can still find those for about the same price as the black one at around 5000usd which to me is a steal. And if u can manage to get one of this in japan, the quality shall have no worries.

What is the point of going for a Vacheron if the movement is from another manufacturer. This is "cheap" for a reason.

@Lume Shot consumers have the freedom to buy whatever they want, their money, their choice, but if the reason for buying a watch is because it performs well and is nicely finished, there are amazing alternatives e.g. grand seiko. I dont know, maybe I'm just not a fan of buying a product just because of the brand name.

Because it’s a phenomenal watch made with an extremely well finished and accurate movement. It’s not “cheap” in any sense whatsoever! Extremely high end brands have done this for many many years now. It is 100% finished by Vacheron and obviously not a run of the mill movement. I’m not exactly sure who made it, but it is definitely another very high end watchmaker/brand. It’s an entry level model from the oldest and one of the finest watchmakers one the planet. That’s the “point”.

@Secret Santa it is THE cheapest model offered by Vacheron, a brand who is clearly capable of making its own movement. The movement doesnt even have a Geneva seal. If you don't care about the movement and would choose a watch based on a decent looking dial and finishing, the horology aspect clearly isnt appreciated and it looks like they are buying it for the brand name. I would much rather buy something else for this price.
