Just to clarify. We'll be doing more videos on various RV types. The purpose of this video was to make sure people without an RV are asking the right questions when they're shopping. We wanted to help get the conversation started so you can choose the RV that's right for you! By considering these 10 questions, you can make sure you're on the right track! :)

Keep Your Daydream. Awesome video. Love the good natured presentation and the list is great. We have already done a ton of research into different types of full-time RV/tiny living options. While we will be traveling more in our long term plans (art festivals, fairs, arts shows etc), we first have to get out of the renting rut and own our dwelling. Our one requirement for our RV is that it has a separate office/art studio space (pet hair and paw prints do not mix well with sellable original art. Lol). This limits us to the longer (length) options with separate bunks in the rear or toy hauler space that can be converted. Those tend to cost more, so our budget will most likely push us to an older model. (Great point about being 20% under budget). It's what will get us started (hopefully by the end of the first quarter next year). That being said, we look forward to catching up on your videos and watching the new ones as the come out.

In 2000 we bought are fist travel trailer (TT) 20 ft. 2 Kids 6m and 4yo. we would walk the camp grounds and make a list of things we wanted in our next camper. Fast forward to 2017 thousands off miles and many trips later, we stopped years ago writing down what we wanted. Bottom line we made it work and loved the old trailer. This summer we have 4 trips planed kids 17 and 21 still love and want to come with us. The camper is 20 yo we bought it used and has never been inside always kept outside. Has been money well spent. My suggestion just get something under budget used and have fun. Thanks for the video.

I agree that you need to consider what is possible rather than endlessly pursuing the ideal. We finally recognized that and bought a trailer we could pay cash for and pull with the truck we already owned and store in our driveway rather than pay for rental storage. We have been delighted with the result. We discovered that such a strategy fits with the life we already lead rather than completely redefining our life to fit a hypothetical set of changes.

Timely advice for me. I start visiting RV dealers this weekend and I've been researching for a while trying to find the perfect choice, which I've pretty much failed to do. Every time I look at a new RV or type of RV I go all "That's totally the perfect choice." 2 days later looking online at another type, "That's totally the perfect one for me". I feel like a cat with ADD surrounded by squirrels.

We were given advice to go by the dealer multiple times but don't start talking purchase till the last week of the month or on holidays. They have to pay "Rent" on these units and they get very flexible when it gets close to having to make the payment!

Hi Guys, Great vid and excellent advice. I concur with you on the 10 points and having gone down the same road (excuse the pun) in choosing an RV, we did just exactly what you both describe. We sat at home for a year looking at rigs, trying to figure out what we wanted. I had RV experience from a "previous life" when my three boys were small. Now they are grown men and I am remarried. So, what type of rig to buy. We attended several RV shows in the Toronto area and saw many different RV's and like you we decided on how much use we would have out of the RV, where we could park it beside our home and how big it needed to be for the two of us and our two little dogs. Bug and Harry. In the light of a happy marriage, we decided twin beds were a must. We also fell in love with the Airstream brand and then got sticker shock when we found out our new Airstream was going to cost almost $100,000.00 Canadian Dollars. Nope!! that's not happening. We decided on a used Airstream and had to go on a waiting list for the 25' model with twin beds to become available and despite it being a little older than we would have liked, the trailer just yelled out to us "buy me" and we did. I am retired now and we do marathon trips with Florida, Maine, Texas to see our family in the DFW and Colorado where I indulge my passion for steam trains. In closing, we bought the rig and then the tow vehicle. I know enough about machines and trucks to have a good idea of what we needed to "git er done" and the truck as I have mentioned before is a Ford F150 Ecoboost . Our trailer is a 25' Airstream and we could not be happier. We did have to do some work and your advice to have a slush fund is excellent. Thanks for a great channel. Enjoy BC. We have two sons living in the Vancouver area. Keith Stamper

Hello guys, Just wanted to say, great vids! I've been catching up on all your vids and have to say you have become one of my favorite KZbinrs. I absolutely love that you have taken the opportunity to just spend time together, it is so true that life is fleeting and it passes you by in a blink. My wife and I always talked about getting an Rv but it was never the right time, always something that would come up that required time and money. She passed away several years ago and left our two young kids ( 3 and 5 yrs old ) and I questioning a lot of things. At that moment I made the decision that we will always need more money that we'll never have, things will always come up and we will always be pressed for more time but the memories that my children and I make will be forever. They will remember the good times and hopefully laugh about all the trouble I've run into with our Rv. We have gotten to see and go to so many great places that will always be part of us. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us all.

We made the mistake of financing our RV and so we're limited as to when we can go out because of the monthly payment on trailer digs into our travel money. But luckily our storage is only $35.00 a month at our mobile home park. But if we ever sell our place we will be living in the RV and traveling to new states to retire to. But when we're out we love it. We like the resorts. Great video guys
@rhysharrison19947 жыл бұрын
The military guy you mentioned with 4 years left by all means should buy now. His basic allowance for housing will more than cover the payment. Many guys will go this route and end up with a free RV as opposed to spending that money on rent. Two at my last assignment before retiring did it. Wish I had.

Our oldest son lives in Central Point. They got married on a buffalo farm along the Rogue River. It was beautiful there! Another KZbinr said they had read that the average RV'er owns 8 RV's in their life. We have had our rig 5 yrs and still love it! We went back & forth on what we wanted. We probably looked 8 yrs before we made our decision and found our rig. Hubby was in the military so we weren't in a big hurry. One he retired we would have time to explore. We actually bought the rig 2 yrs before he retired. We still got out and used it during leave and on weekends. The only thing we would change, if we had to change something would be diesel instead of gas. But for the difference in price, the higher cost to operate a diesel, we are happy with what we have!

@KeepYourDaydream7 жыл бұрын
We bought the RV in March and left in May. The 60 days prior, we stored it at $60 per month. Between seasons when we're "home"... we stayed in Ginger. But because many who watch that are not full-time, storage cost is a factor, which is why we mention it.

In this video, you mentioned in a Class-A you could bring everybody (family & friends). NOT necessarily. Safe and legal riding means you'll have a SEAT BELT for each & every person on board. MANY Class-A (or Class-c or even a Super_C Class) RVs will only have 6~8 seat belted positions. You may have more seats BUT, seats that do NOT have a seat belt are NOT safe or legal for passengers while you're under way. Other than that, I really enjoy your videos. PS: I also recommend that newbies find and attend an RV Boot Camp. A little time & money spent attending RVBC will pay BIG dividends down the road.

Not are perfect rig. We went camping with our family of 5 with 29 BHS jay flight travel trailer with a small slide out. It would have been nice to have had the bigger slide out, would of given us more living room space, but then we didn't have the right truck to pull that extra pds with the bigger slide out. Your travel trailer is pretty big with the big slide out to fit comfortably family of 5. our 3boys are young adults now and we passed the trailer over to them. And me and my husband are purchasing a half ton Jayco fifth wheel and pull it with our 2016 echo boost ford 150. perfect size for just the 2 of us. no more bunks.

Too late for your video advice, (though we followed most of it by accident) my wife and I just bought a new Palomino a-frame last weekend and we pick it up on Monday (film at 11)! Originally we were looking at one of the hybrid class A/C, then I came down with cancer and that totally changed out plans. We searched for several months and finally found the deal of a lifetime. 2017 Palomini A-frame $7500 off the MSRP. We purchased it from a small mom and pop RV center in Seneca South Carolina. Hi KYD, Great informative video, but you should also emphasize that if looking to tow a TT (the most popular and affordable type of RV), you're limited by the towing capacity of your current vehicle unless you also plan to upgrade your tow vehicle or plan to acquire a new half ton or larger pick-up. You can also find great deals on used RV's on CraigsList, let the 1st owner pay for the depreciation. Just beware of the scam ads there (no phone contact, 1 photo only, very brief description, priced way below market value, etc.). See many used motorhomes on CL with ridiculous low mileage (the avg. motorhome is only driven around 3K miles annually) at low prices. Acquired a new compact TT (21' + ) that sleeps up to 5 in March as my tow vehicle is a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T that had the tow Pkg. My TT didn't have everything I wanted so made some minor modifications and additions to it myself (extra windows, bunk ladder, privacy curtains, shelving, etc.). I'm in the Greater Seattle area so BC & Alberta (Canadian Rockies) are among my planned RV trip destinations in the near future. Wishing you many Happy and Safe travels.

Hi guys, listened to your You tube Video on choosing your first camper. Did we Listen!!! almost. We have looked at more campers then I can count. All of them have now merged into one blurred travel trailer. We looked at Small 17 footers and thought that that would work for my wife my self and Lab ! Oh Nay Nay!! Ordered a Hummingbird by Jaco and took a trip to the dealer in Albany, took a second and third look and decided that it would be too small for the three of us and an occasional Grand kid. We cancelled the order. We are now in the process of purchasing a new Diesel truck to pull a 23 footer . So Hind site and lessons learned, we need remedial viewing of "buying your first RV" Keep up the good work and what dates do you hold RV detention!

There are also lots of dayhikes and a bird sanctuary The bike park is free to ride but you'll need to have an extra vehicle to shuttle up the road to the trailhead. Feel free to get ahold of me. Lol, I do not think there is a perfect RV. It's an expensive learning process. To start off, generally I think they are all built like crap, but they are what they are, you just have to find the ones that built a little better. Also it depends on what your objectives are. I've had a 28 ft. & 31 ft. travel trailers. A small T@b teardrop trailer. A small Winnebago Trend Class C. And now a 1/2 ton tow able 31 ft. 5th wheel. The wood working in the T@b is the best of all I've owned. The Class C is the easiest to just get up and go. Of all the trailers, the 5th wheel pulls the best, has the most living space and is the most comfortable I have owned.

WE spent about 3 years researching and shopping for our travel trailer. I asked myself all of those questions many times in that 3 years. I know we didn't get everything we wanted but its close and I'm ok with that. Keep the great videos coming.

Great topic! I enjoy your videos and (both) of your enthusiasm for life is amazing. We LOVE our class A RV. It sure is great to pee and poo without stopping. Also keeping the air conditioner on non stop makes the summer trips more enjoyable.

Are you in Grants Pass now? I live up the street from Valley Of The Rogue State park. If so, check out Hellgate Jetboats for a whitewater trip and great food down the river.

I plan on trying to find peace and quiet out by myself or with my mate off the grid in a smaller 18 foot tow behind. I enjoyed seeing the sites and I have a few places I have never been to. Like up to the northeast coast..Maine New Hampshire, pensylvania . I plan on putting up a covered awning in my yard beside my house to keep it stored with the wheels off and stored out of the sun. Less money spent on the camper equals more money for going to do things. I have been a mechanic most of my life so I'm not concerned about having to do the maintenance on the RV.

I JUST bought my 1st rv on Monday! There weren't many options in my area, as I wanted a class B, and they're very hard to come by, at least in my budget and area. I am happy to say I found one and will be full timing as soon as it has a mechanic take a look at it next week! Thanks for the effort you put into your videos and inspiring! Aloha, Amy

We started with a older Class C and I loved it. My husband was itching to get a bumper pull so that was our 2nd and current rig. It still isn't our "perfect rig"! We thought we had a great "must have list" but learned a couple of things we did not think about after using the new rig only a couple of times. We will get it right one day! :)

Thanks for all the great videos. I've learned a few things from ya'lls experiences and have added lots of destinations to our list. I do have one request though. Could you please be a little more specific with the campgrounds you stay in. Especially this one in Grants Pass. Thanks again and keep em coming.

GREAT advice and video! Just for an extra comment, we have a class a and it is still not all that easy to use the bathroom or make a sandwich going down the road! The best advice I have is start cheap so you figure out what your needs/wants are. We are into our second motorhome and learned so much from the first.

Hey guys. Great video's! I've had to sell the last "upgrade" a couple years ago to care for my mother after a death but now.....HERE WE GO AGAIN! I've got myself the GMC 6.6 liter Duramax/Isuzu Alison combo in my recently purchased crew cab/long bed/ 3500 HD. I've been looking for what we are going to venture into next. Toy Hauler maybe....I have no toys for it (Yet? if I do) but the garage can make into a great "living room". I would love to do a 5th wheel but have the truck set up with the 'decked and ARE' set up so going with a dragger. NOW....30foot, you said for the National Parks?....is that 30ft box or overall???? (tongue to bumper). We do mostly beach "camping" like Carlsbad kind of thing but sometimes hit some of the nationals as well. I know what this thing can tow (house for example) but what do I want to max out on for the parks? What is 'THE BRAND" TO SHOP FOR? I'll likely go for a slightly used rig. (couple years old)

I say that if you are looking for a USED rig it is better to PURCHASE in the fall because it is the buyers market because sellers want that rig gone (they don't want to pay storage, winterize it, etc). If you are buying a GINGER then you can spend all winter making it your by going through it and FLIPPING IT into what you want and need it to be for your family. Buying an RV for 25-50% of the original price give you thousands of dollars to turn that mass-produced decor into your personal home (or home away from home). I also say DON'T plan on how long you are going to be gone. My uncle planned a 30-day vacation and spent the entire time in the repair facility. Your Ford still takes into consideration large boys in the back while our newer Chevy is like a Delta flight with the seat in front of the boys reclined. We started with a 30' tow behind and then upgraded to a 36.5' tripple slide as we now have 2 boys. We are ready to sell our bunk house and drop back down to a 27-28' because of the weight and places we cannot go with this new (used) 5th wheel. Yes, we drool over the new 5,000' toy haulers BUT don't want to have a drive a semi to make it trim trees, power and untility lines and a dozen awnings that will fail. We'd like to see 2 bathrooms with 2 on-demand hot water heaters (one in front and one in back). If the manufacturers called us up and asked our advice we could help them understand just because they make it doesn't mean we like it.

I'm curious: what would be your "ideal" rig now that you've owned a TT for a year? We recently moved from a truck camper (or truck CRamper.....four people, and a dog, in a truck camper is C-R-A-M-P-E-D) to a 30' 5th wheel and so far, we're really happy with it. Just got back from an almost 3,000 mile road trip (over 8 days) through Yellowstone, Black Hills, Badlands and other than the hook-up, unhook, hook-up hassle, it was really perfect for our family. But I can certainly see the appeal in a class C or class A, especially on super-long road trips. As a side note, your videos are really terrific.

Finding the "perfect RV" is daunting. We are on our 5th motorhome. We just bought a beautiful classy B+ Phoenix Cruiser 2351. We are selling our 2004 Thor Chateau for only one reason, the beds. I have a really bad back and need a regular 2 person bed. Otherwise we would not sell the Thor. So, IMHO, some things you should consider in buying . . . Cost, Useage and Storage, and Size: COST: Get warranty if possible and used if in great condition, join AAA and/or Good Sam Club. Maybe rent your RV out. USEAGE: Trailers are nice because they give you a vehicle you can drive after parking the trailer. Motorhomes are nice because they are more maneuverable and easier to park. Interior layout is very important. SLIDE-OUT is #1. STORAGE: Where are you going to store your RV? If possible at home is the best. That way you can use it as a spare bedroom, keep the batteries charged, operate the generator, maintenance, etc. That's what we do. SIZE: Buy the smallest unit you can comfortably live with. We have owned Camper Vans, Class A, and Class B motorhomes. The camper vans were okay for two people but we needed something for 4 people. Our small class A was a nightmare! The Chevrolet motor blew! We prefer the Class B Plus motorhomes for 4 people. The class B+ is more aerodynamic than the class C motorhomes, however, if you need room for more than 4 sleepers, then the Class C is fine. Another reason I prefer class B or C is that while driving you are surrounded by steel, unlike fiberglass in a class A motorhome. Steel gives stronger protection than fiberglass in an accident. Also, I like the easy ingress and egress of the van type doors.

Huge thing... Never, Never...Never finance a RV for 20 years! Unless you plan on a bankruptcy! If you can not buy the majority of it in cash, DO NOT GO THERE! Another thing, if it has slides, and you live in a snow climate... Find a local retired farmer you can pay to store it in a garage/barn! If it leaks, you need to be in it when it does! Do not leave it to the winter weather.

We started with 23' TT, then to a 28' FW, now we're in a 40' toy hauler. This required going from a F250 to a F350 dually. We love it, but sometimes we're limited because of small campsites. I think a slide in truck camper would be a good secondary camper for some trips.

I agree with so much of what you are saying. I am in a 21'-6" travel trailer with a family of FIVE!!! Initially, I only had a mini-van so I was restricted to 3,500 pounds. I have to convert the table every night for our daughter and it is tight, but we have found that the RV is a tool to get us to destinations so we can do things once we arrive. We also see even the people in the large RVs spend most of their time outside anyway (unless it is raining) so the inside isn't as important. After all the towing gear, taxes, tags, outfitting, etc... we were at $16k for a brand new system with a 2 year warranty, Jayco 174BH (unit price was $11,200 winter special on sale before the season started). We have plenty of money to DO THINGS and when we aren't using it, I have zero heartburn because it isn't a ton of money sitting idle.

I am sure it has been asked many times before but I have a ? about the 1/2 ton towing. I am retired and my wife soon will be. I just traded trucks in Jan and got another gasser...a Nissan Titan 4x4 with 9230 lb max tow. I do have the tow package tho. I am looking shorter than 30 ft and don't want to exceed 80% max of the gross trailer weight. I am looking for 6200lb or less empty fwiw. My wife wants a little bigger trailer naturally. LOL. I spent 20 years as a trucker so I know what going up AND down mountains present and the side winds but that was with a tractor trailer designed purposely for that. I have zero experience with campers, only Army tents we were issued LOL a slight difference. So, I like you saying run what ya got to get out there and go. How did your truck do in the mountains, etc with what is probably a 6000 lb trailer empty and with all the etc pushing over 8 grand? I know yall upgraded trailers but relying on your time with the F150 and the 28 ft'r. Thanks.

Hi! I am a new subscriber and have already watched many of your videos. Good Job guys!!! I am a 62 year old woman looking to retire and live full time in an RV. The Winnebago Micro Minnie is what I am looking to buy. I will also need to buy a vehicle to tow it with. (Don't think the Ford Focus can do the trick. lol ) I will be traveling alone. I am studying every aspect of my dream. I also want to start a blog and You Tube video share. That is where you 2 come in...... Camera and microphone. Money is an issue. What do you use? Would you make suggestions for me? Thank you for your upbeat, fun lovin', informative, videos. Maybe we will see each other on the road next year.

I know that I am a couple years late on posting on this video. I am in the planning process to start full-time RV'ing, this video gave me some things to think about. Most of it I have already considered and have implemented into the overall goal. I will be solo, plus a dog and 3 cats. What is holding me back right now is finding a job that I can 100% telecommute. 99% of the responses I have received have been from MLM companies, which I will not do. Thanks for posting this video, it has been very informative.
