Okay, that's a great idea. I was thinking it would be cool to hear from the kids about their perspective of the lifestyle change, but a Q&A would be very interesting. My wife is an elementary school music teacher and she thought it was an awesome idea too. And Marc, how about some Marc's tips and tricks on how to load up a family of 5 into a TT and head out all the while holding down a job? Do you set up a space to work in the trailer, do you kick everyone out while you work, or do you have offices that you go to in different cities? You have to have a little bit of Superman in you to keep the train on the tracks. And I know that Trish has a little Wonder Woman in her too.

New subbie... and SUPER NEW to RVing . We are picking up our TT on Saturday. What would you recommend as top items for a tool box, first aid kit, and essentials that don't come with an RV? Loving your videos! Cheers for MANY more adventures and wonderful memories for you!
@KeepYourDaydream
@KeepYourDaydream 7 жыл бұрын
Love new subbies :) That's a great question. I will add that to our ever growing video Q&A list. First, you might like our how-to setup video. I did it when I was still fairly new so I'd be sure to cover the details that I would probably gloss over now that we've been doing for so long. If your saw our very first video, you'll know you need a 4 way tire wrench. And maybe a decent jack too, but if your TT new, check the dates on your tires. They could have been sitting in a warehouse in China for years! :) I would make sure you have the proper size wrenches for your U Bolts and leaf springs, chain and webbing should you need to move something back in place. The rest is just standard tools. We don't have a great first aid, but something we need to add. No dif. that what we have at home. Did you see our RV tour video? That has tons of great ideas for the inside. If you go to our channel home page, it should be listed as one of the top videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJDGmYKXjrtohqs

Enjoyed this video....yes, we started out with a 'truck & slide-in camper', to a 27' travel trailer over the period our kids where travelling, where when they weren't...we went back to a truck & camper...but one with a slide, and now a Class A Diesel pusher now that we're retired! Our motorhome isn't new, albeit it looks new and everything works perfectly (so far) plus I can do many of the little fix-it's myself...thus, we're ready to put on some miles!

Mark, thank you, your KZbin videos have changed our life. We currently live and work in the Bay Area where mortgages consume most of our pay check. The cost of living here has caused me to work two full time jobs. Although I have two great jobs, I was never home to be the dad of our family. We decided to downsize as a residential and commercial building inspector and grocery store weekend was working in the Bay Area more than 80 hours a week. I had no life outside of work. I started watching your videos and relieved that I would be happier with less mortgage and more living. when I saw you

Oops the previous post was by accident. I wasn't finished with my post. From your videos we decided less mortgage and more living would be a better plan for our family. This weekend we bought a used motor home. I'm planning to take every weekend off to explore RVing as an alternative lifestyle. We are planning to take short weekend trips all over California and Nevada to try this out. Your videos have inspired us to make changes and hopefully give us back a lifestyle. God bless you, Gene, lynn and Angela.

You guys (or should I say Mr. and Mrs. Jazz hands) are a riot. I just wanted to mention one of the reasons we chose a travel trailer over an RV is so we could have a vehicle available. We unhook the camper and go. With an RV we would have to tow a vehicle. Love your videos.

Great video. Love the bloopers at the end. The big question I was waiting for you to answer was finally answered toward the end. My big question was, "how do you maintain an income to support your family travel dream?" Thank you for touching on that subject. I just began watching you video series and am hooked. You guys do a great job and your family is inspiring. My wife and I are 7 years away from retirement but do not have the option to work remotely. We already own a nice 5th wheel toy hauler and a nice diesel to tow it. Your solar system installation is awesome and gave me a lot of good ideas for my own camper - even though I have a generator already. Congratulations on your video project and your family lifestyle. Keep it up and we look forward to seeing future episodes. Maybe we will run into one another on the road someday....

I'm new to your channel after searching RV organization, and I'm so happy to have found you! My husband and I are not full timers yet, but plan to be some day. We have a fifth wheel that we absolutely love so it is very nice to see other families who enjoy traveling as much as we do. I agrre with you 2 about a class A compared to a fifth wheel or pull trailer. Fivers or pull trailers don't have an engine or transmission to maintain. And, if you're out of milk or need ice and the closest store is 5 miles away, what now? Unless, of course, you have a small tow vehicle. It's all personal preference and life is too short to wait for tomorrow because tomorrow isn't promised! Happy travels 😀

Such a tough decision. Comes down to personal preference. We've been around a lot class A's now and I see the benefits, but a trailer feels more like home when it's all setup. I really like the Super C Freight-liners, but that won't be until it's just the two of us.

My wife and I are considering becoming snowbirds for 3-4 months a year (we live in Minneapolis). We want to thank you both for your excellent VLOG. It is very informative and you are a pleasure to watch. Congratulations on a wonderful family (your kids are awesome!), and on a fantastic marriage. You two seem to have so much fun together and you are both really funny! We are just starting the planning phase but already I think that I like your setup better than the Class C that I was previously considering. We are happy to subscribe and will look into Patreon to help you continue making great videos and livin the dream. ;-) The Mexico vids are fantastic! I used to road trip to Baja from San Diego, CA in the 80’s to windsurf and surf. It’s a rough drive some sections (bumpy) but we made it through in old beat up VW and other vans. It’s well worth the effort, very beautiful on land and in the ocean. Unlike PV, the water is crystal clear in Baja. I LOVE Mexicans and their beautiful country! Can’t wait to see your next trip to the Yucatán area and maybe Oaxaca or Chiapas? Ha ha Sincerely, Kathy & Dom

Hello Kathy & Dom... thanks for your comment. Class C's are nice and everyone has their preferences based on how they travel. We feel that a trailer feels a bit more like home when it's setup and drive days are the cost of maintenance is more reasonable. We are now finally in the process to of looking at diesel trucks and 5th wheels for a bit more space and stability. We love the Yucatan area. I can say this here, but it's an old video, but Trish and I snuck away for a 7 day trip there last month. The vlog should be in week or so. You're right. Amazing. Can't wait to start editing. The KYD Insiders know about it as we were posting updates. Keep in touch.

As a former home school mom of 13years of three...I agree with having faith in yourself. It was such an amazing life watching my children soak up history, science, and even math by having to determine mileage, length of trip based on what we wanted to see. Of course the thing I enjoyed the most was when we would cuddle up and relive our adventures, which of course, means they were reviewing their lessons without even realizing it.

Thanks for the comment Susan. Yeah, more pros the cons... but the Tricia wanting to pull her hair out sometimes is a big one ;) Likely more due to our boys than homeschooling!

Informative videos. One added and obvious advantage a trailer has over a motor home is that when you are in a spot and want to explore a city you have your personal vehicle. Unless a motor home also pulls their car then they have to unhook and drive the motor home.

Great Q&A! Ideas for next Q&A: Could you talk about the things that you initially took with you and didn't need or use? I know in one of the videos, you had mentioned the containers in the bed of the truck with stuff you didn't use. Could you also talk more about those places that you found and wished you had more time to enjoy? Thanks and we are eagerly awaiting more videos!

We can't get enough of you guys! We drop everything when one of your videos post. We have some questions. When you are staying at a Walmart, what do you do for power if you don't have a generator? What do you do for health insurance? And most important, are you renting out your house? You must be or its paid off since you were saying your expenses are now lower.
@KeepYourDaydream
@KeepYourDaydream 7 жыл бұрын
No home in AZ. We were renting at the time. We don't use Power at Walmart. Lights in the rig are LED and we're unable to charge Lap tops, etc, but the truck keeps them charged. We have had private health insurance for the past 12 years or longer. Obama care made that difficult because all, but one carrier dropped private insurance so we now pay $1,300/mo for a plan with a 6k deductible. Was previous half the premium and a quarter of the deductible. I guess a Q&A on the admin stuff would be good too!

I can't remember if you said but have you have weighed your trailer and truck. I'm curious what those numbers look like. I would guess you are close your maximum GCVWR for truck and trailer.

This was great....and think keeping the question to a minimum and going into details is very helpful. Thank you for sharing your experiences being out there and doing life on the road. It's not glamour all the time but living in a sticks and bricks is not either. We have to make the most of our time, which at time can be challenging either way. Looking forward to following your next season😃Blessings

You're exactly right. I'll mention this in a future video that people tend to compare the worst of one thing to the best of another. There are pros and cons to everything! Thanks for the comment. This video was even longer at 40 min. I really had to edit the heck out of it to keep it at 22! We'll get better at Q&A's.

Just found your channel right now. Love it! We homeschooled our kids. Best decision we ever made. We don't regret it all and they also said they were happy we gave them the freedom to learn on their own terms. My brother just got an Airstream. Beautiful! We don't have an RV/trailer but Ric & I may do that one day. We have other adventure plans for now :) Great video!

I absolutely Love you guys. I am 71 now so I grew up in a different era and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see the respect that your kids have both for you and the adventure that they are on. Our youngest is 43 but I can't help but feel that this kind of bonding is still possible through RVING. We have been Thousand Trails members for about 30 years and I can't help but think you could lessen your expenses even more. It would cost about 6000 to join (you can finance with them for about 140 a month) and then 58 dollars a month maint eees but you can stay 21 days at each campground for free. I really pays off once the initial fee is paid for. I look forward to watching season 2 and wish you safe journeys always

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the comment. We like being "old school". Raising our kids how we were raised and not driving them around like a taxi driver so they can do activities without their family. One of my fav things about RV life is how much our kids spend around older people, who have no problem telling our kids how to behave :) Takes a village! I've looked into Thousand Trails, but was concerned about availability and location. Yes, we're "full-time", but due to the channel and collecting video footage, we need to be in certain areas on somewhat of a schedule. This was a problem the last time I looked into it, but will try again! Season 3 will be on the West Coast to BC. Can't wait! -Marc
