► Buzios: The official name of the city is 'Armação dos Búzios', but everyone just refers to it as 'Búzios'. This is a beach community in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and a popular getaway for Brazilians and Argentinians. Basically an unknown fishing village until the 1960s, it was made famous by French actress Brigitte Bardot.
► Rua das Pedras: Translating, the name means stones' street, and that's exactly what you'll see. More than that, it's Buzios' main street, with an active nightlife and a nice variety of shopping and restaurants.
► Orla Bardot: Named after Brigitte Bardot, this is the strip of land that connects Praia da Armação with Rua das Pedras, the main street in town. Brigitte Bardot is also honored along the oceanfront path with a bronze statue.
► Praia da Armação: This beach is located downtown, next to Rua das Pedras and in front of Orla Bardot. To this date, it is still full of fishing boats. Their old houses have been restored and are now lovely restaurants and pousadas. From this beach, you can get the boat tours to the various other beaches in Buzios.

Yes, Buzios would be a great place. Other options equally nice are Paraty (although you’ll need a car to go to places, and in Buzios you can at least stay within walking distance to a beach) and Ilha Grande (this has more of a laid back feeling, as it’s an island with no cars, you get there by ferry and smaller boats will take you to the beaches. But the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world)

Glad you like it! Thanks! Small beach communities like this are safe. They don’t have favelas like in Rio and São Paulo, and don’t have the problems of big cities. Rio and São Paulo are like any big metropolis in the world. You have to be cautious on the streets, but there’s an extra concern in Rio because there are favelas in the middle of the city, and these are places you don’t want to go. There were cases of tourists that ended up in these after following the GPS, so I’d avoid renting a car there. I also don’t like walking out late at night. But the media extrapolates too. In the best neighborhoods you feel as safe as in Europe. This is the image my husband had when he first went to Brazil (he’s Canadian/American) and today after 17 years and many visits, he wishes he could buy an apartment in Rio

Yeah… Also more Brazilians started using e-wallets (some available only to residents, unfortunately). So today, if you have a bank account in Brazil you can go cashless. We actually just did that. More and more informal vendors are accepting credit and/or debit. I love it!!!

Buzios and other beach communities in Brazil are totally safe. There are no favelas like in Rio, no gang violence, etc. Of course, things can happen anywhere in the world, but year after year I don't remember hearing of problems there. I guess that's why it's so popular among foreigners ✌

Brazil can be challenging outside Rio and São Paulo because people don't speak English, but they are friendly and will do everything to help. As you've already been there, I believe this would not be a problem for you. Certain beach communities like Ilha Grande and Jericoacoara receive a lot of Europeans traveling solo, and Iguazu Falls is well prepared for international visitors. Today, more and more restaurants have menus in English, Uber and Airbnb are all over, so things are not that difficult anymore.

Hotels in this city are about 350 Brazilian reais, which was about US$ 100 when we stayed but today it's less than US$ 70 due to the huge devaluation of the Brazilian currency that happened in the last few months. When this covid-19 situation is solved, it will be a great time to travel to Brazil, as for foreigners the country will appear to be in a huge discount (Brazil is normally expensive) 😉

Translating, orla means something like "beachfront" in Portuguese. Orla Barbot is just the nickname of the boardwalk, the full official name is Orla Brigitte Bardot. That's why her statue is there. I grew up spending every summer in this beach
