Hi 👋 nice video 😊 Yes the sparrowhawk is definitely a young male from this year Unfortunately text books and identification pictures and literature is incredibly misleading in the UK and in most cases incorrect for some reason, which leads to the confustion Both males and female sparrowhawks are brown in juvenile plumage it takes around 3 years for them to get there full adult plumage and as they get older there colours become more intense And yes in general males have more colour than females But females are ofen described as brown but in fact, all females in adults plumage have a grey appearance on their backs wings and and top of there head and can have orangey buff colours on there breast flanks cheeks have filmed a female for years with vivid colours like a male orange breast and cheeks slate grey back I filmed her every year nesting until she was 7 years old, because of her colours people tell me she is a male But males don’t lay eggs ? I have been lucky enough to film and photograph 9 different Sparrowhawks nesting over the years and there is a lot of variation in colours many based on the age of the bird I still remain bemused by the books and identification information out there which causes great confusion on a common species Nice video and keep up promoting amazing UK wildlife

Hi Robert, many thanks for the feedback and information, very much appreciated and very helpful. I do tend to find that looking to identify birds in books, online etc very few appear to be the same, and colours can change from one book to the next.🥴 But many thanks for your info, I am sure there will be a few out there that will find this very helpful. Love your videos and work 👍 Ash

Lovely video I had a similar experience with a Sparrow Hawk it’s awesome looking forward to Mull Vid. 😊👍
@WildlifePhotographerUKАй бұрын
Yeah hopefully get the Mull video out for next week, the problem I'm finding is that when I'm going through my photos, the thousands of them, I now have 142 keepers to narrow down for the video it's quite a task lol.😵💫

Hi Peter many thanks for your comment, well hopefully you'll have a successful day just as I did, you just have to keep your wits about you and keep looking out into both Windows because you have no idea what's going to happen. 👍

Very nice video 😀 If you shooting through the glass and loosing one stop of light how did you managed to shot at F2.8? Thanks
@WildlifePhotographerUKАй бұрын
You can still take photos at f/2.8 through the glass, you just need to compensate by increasing the ISO or lowering the shutter speed 👍
@colincarter3120Ай бұрын
the glass doesn't stop you shooting at whatever f stop you want it just means that with the one stop of light loss you will be shooting at wither twice the iso or half the shutter speed you would normally be shooting at.
