Couldn't agree more. People who say lettuce tastes like nothing don't know what they are talking about. Also "lettuce" is a really broad term. There is iceberg, romaine, arugula, butterlettuce. Æris Its already called ketchup "leather". It could taste however it wants. The texture of a ketchup leather could never replace any sauce because it just completely misses the point of a sauce: TO BE A SAUCE. To me the goal of a Burger is to mix several flavours to one big tasty packet. So why would I keep the boring bread to stay boring instead of allowing it to steal some flavour from the meat. And all that for a strange replacement of a sauce which misses every reason to put a sauce on a burger in the first place.

They all look amazing, but what I love in a burger is to toast both sides of the bun and before the final assembly I put the patty in the bun alone to soak up some juice, enough for flavor but just before getting soggy, then I take the patty out, put a cheese slice on the bottom slice of bread, melt it to slick to the patty so it doesn't slide, then add toppings. This extends the burger flavor. Garlic butter is good but if you season the burger with salt, pepper and garlic, it's even better with its own juice.
