Rohan too low unemployment isn’t always a good thing. Take any economics class and you’ll see why. Anyone who still thinks Trump is good for this country is delusional tbh. I work in medical imaging and I remember learning about this case in school. Po-210 emits alpha radiation (essentially a helium atom), which really doesn't need the kind of shielding you'd think it does. In fact, Po-210 in particular can't penetrate skin from the outside. It wouldn't have set off any detectors because a plastic vial would be enough to shield it. Once ingested, the body itself serves as adequate shielding (which is probably why the doctors didn't catch it until right before he died) while causing massive internal damage to soft tissues and wiping out white blood cells. It's not a pleasant way to go.
@Reduskx
@Reduskx 2 жыл бұрын
Alpha radiation also can't travel further than a few centremetres, meaning that only a specific small area would be intensely radiated. It's actually in smoke detectors lol.

Before his death, Litvinenko said: "You may succeed in silencing one man but the howl of protest from around the world, Mr. Putin, will reverberate in your ears for the rest of your life." This seems to be coming true. What happened to him was horrible, but this gives a little hope.
@sonsofpitches5907

I lived right near where Litvinenko lived during his poisoning. I was 7 at the time, and my dad picked me up from school, but we came across multiple TV vans, police, people in hazmat suits and even a helicopter on our way home. We switched on the TV and saw my dad’s car on the screen and we soon figured out it was a spy poisoning. The house was blocked off by a tent and then something else for the next 4 years, with a note from the court beside the door ordering prohibition on trespassing the radioactive house. Since then it was only occupied for a year or two, but ended up empty most of the time. Spooky.

Need to clear up some stuff on radiation poisoning around 09:12-- Polonium 210 is a radioisotope that undergoes alpha decay. Alpha particles themselves are relatively harmless because they're physically massive and don't travel well through dense material; they slow down (use up their energy) before they can really go anywhere. In that way, you can hold Polonium 210 in your hand because your skin is thick enough to stop alpha particles (and a handshake would be no issue for the same reason). Alpha radiation becomes problematic when ingested because--similarly to how it can't pass skin from the outside--it can't leave the inside of the body once consumed. It's a high energy particle, so all that energy is now on the inside, ripping electrons from its environment (in this case, the cells of the body).
@HashtagCarlyBlaugher
@HashtagCarlyBlaugher 6 жыл бұрын
The particle has a charge, in the case of alpha radiation, it's positive (specifically the nucleus of a helium atom). Positive attracts negative, and because alpha particles are of unbalanced positive charge, they rapidly combine (by pulling from other atoms) with negative charges to create helium. The atoms the alpha particle pulls electrons from lose two electrons to balance the charge; for organic systems this causes significant damage.

For Postmortem (or just anyone that might read this comment): there's different kinds of radiation, Polonium is specifically an alpha radioactive particle and has limited penetrative capabilities, it can only go as far as a piece of paper. However, when ingested, its metabolism by the body leads to the irradiation of all cells in it's path and that is what leads to illness. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that all those 700+ people exposed to polonium did not fall ill as they did not ingest it, they were protected by their clothes basically stopping the radioactive particles from entering their bodies Fun Fact: 1g of Polonium is enough to kill 50 million people and injure 50 million more but only when ingested

An interesting question (I'm not a health physicist, so take my words with a grain of salt). I'd say unless it's a very very deep cut, you still have many (relatively) thick layers of skin in the way that would prohibit the radiation from an alpha particle to penetrate the body.

I learnt about this case in physics! We were learning about the three types of radiation. Polonium 210 emits alpha radiation that can't pass through paper and definitely not skin however once it gets inside of the body it's ridiculously dangerous becuase it can't get out and alpha radiation is the most ionising so it slowly destroyed his insides over time with no way to remove it.

Great questions... It is likely that this was no ordinary chef and I'm pretty sure the FSB would have been able to contact a local (russian) chef and kindly ask him to help out with an order, possibly an order by the President. Most likely this person was someone who was smart enough to not involve himself in this matter and who knew not to speak about his orders given by the russians because if he did...well, he would have gotten burned.

Technically it’s the FSB, though the KGB technically exists in Belarus so you’re not 100% wrong. They’re a strong ally of Russia so they could, in theory, kill them because Russia could suggest they do that. That is of course, if Russia did poising Litvinenko. Poor guy either way. What a nasty way to go.

A little bit of a Greek story for ya; Tantalus was invited to Olympus by the gods for a feast. He asked to bring some ambrosia and nectar (food and drink of the gods) home to study it, but they refused. He invitd them to his home for food sometime aftr, and served them a soup that had the chopped up remains of his children in it. When they realized, they killed him and sentenced him to the fields of punishment; he would stand in a lake, a fruit tree over his head. When he tried to grab a fruit, the tree would move out of reach; when he tried to get water, the water would move away from him. Thus comes the word 'tantalizing'.

It’s actually been said that he noticed the bitter taste of the tea once the two men had left - at that point it was too late anyway. Even if he’d known what he’d taken, his death was inevitable from that point. The poor guy, death by radiation poisoning is slow and excruciating

You guys should do the suspicious Double-Murder Suicide by former WWE professional wrestler, Chris Benoit. The official ruling says that because of head blows from matches, Chris went crazy and killed his wife, son, then committed suicide. But their is much evidence saying that he was framed. For one, a text message was sent from his phone on Sunday morning, but he died Saturday night. Also, Chris had been reporting someone watching his house, outside just staring. Additionally, 14 hours before they discovered the scene, someone edited his wikipedia page, saying he won't be able to compete that night due to personal issues including the death of his wife

Fun fact: the word tantalizing actually comes from the name of a man in Greek myth, named Tantalus. He fed his misbehaving children to the gods (he killed and cooked his kids) and so was condemned to the Fields of Punishment to stand in a lake of water, under a branch of fruit hanging over that lake, physically unable to drink or eat, but to forever be dying of thirst and hunger.

I assume they're talking about the novichok poisoning of Sergei Skripal (former Russian spy)and his daughter, Yulia in Salisbury. More recently, another two people were poisoned by novichok in Amesbury, two normal British citizens of which one died.

Ama Weerakkody Is novichok radiation poisoning? I'm not a native speaker, so I didn't know of that word. Also, thanks for the information! I didn't hear of either of those incidents, maybe because they weren't so heavily broadcasted in my country.

novichok is the nerve agent the boys mentioned in the video of the assassination that occurred earlier this year. it's not a radiation-type poison. it is however known to be used almost exclusively by the fsb and other russian agencies.
