Florence Jean, believe it or not, African women have more chances of marriages than black American women. If you go to Europe and meet African women migrants, only then would you see huge, huge, huge differences between them and black American women. Meet them in person and then see how many are wearing engagement rings, how many are talking about their wedding plans. Meet them in African migrant community in Europe and then you will see what is so clearly wrong with the black American women who have made themselves undateable and unattractive. The African women with the darkest skin have no problems in attracting men of all races for dates and marriages. Their greatest secret is their feminity. It is how they project their feminity to men, how they conduct themselves and what messages they send out.

As an Indian, it's really disheartening to see the amount of fairness creams being advertised in my country. It's like the 21st century but we still promote crap like 'fair skin' or 'gora nikhar'. My skin tone, as per Indian standards, is apparently considered fair (which is something of pride apparently). So when I started competitive swimming, I got more tanned. This became a major concern for my relatives and they would suggest ways to lighten my skin (It was so ridiculous). Thankfully my parents and grandma always told me to be proud of my skin so I could just brush them off. But there are so many kids who hate their skin colour. I sure hope this perception changes.

This message speaks to me and gives me the confidence I’ve much been needing lately 😔 I was born in China, and due to being born in the south, I’m naturally a little darker than other east asians I’ve met and ones that I’ve seen portrayed in media, which are typically shown as being quite fair skinned. Because of that, I’ve been feeling insecure about myself but I’m slowly coming to realize my worth and how society doesn’t need to tell me how to look (However, no matter how much I know my self worth, subconsciously I still feel like I’m letting others down) Edit: Not trying to say that everyone born in the south of a country is automatically darker skin toned, since your skin is decided by your genetics. My main point is skin doesn’t matter when it comes to how much you are worth. 💕

I am Bengali too. Here even if you don't have any sort of good facial features but still if you are fair , congratulations you are beautiful . I am a brown girl and I swear I am good looking than most other classmates of mine but still everyone always appreciate the fair ones . It's not like they never compliment me but they only do that for fishing likes example - the most fair one in my class would randomly start saying that "Ohh I am getting so dark" just to make us resure her that she deadass is still fair . I just hate this toxic mentality and don't worry I love myself and I know that I am a beautiful and who said your opinion matters to me?!

She was bullied by some of my classmates, called all sorts of things from chocolate, through potato, down to poop. I remember getting into quite a couple of skirmishes, because I thought it was hurtful and mean and got into fights on her behalf to make them stop. And all the time, secretly I really envied her, because I thought her skin color was soooooo beautiful! She was really dark, and had this ruddy undertone, and I was in love with her skin. And yes, I was wishing if only I had that.

No you're not! They're all so amazing but it disgusts me how we have to build them up like this because of their skin tone. Everyone deserves confidence and to be complimented but our media today has made the world we live in one in which we have to reassure others that their skin colour is not a problem and that they're beautiful no matter what colour foundation they put on every morning or what shade of the rainbow their skin is. That is what disgusts me about the world.

This is inconceivable to me, we were 11 and she had the idea in her head that she couldn't fly in a plane because her skin was a different colour to mine.

Immigrant does not mean POC A white American who moves to the UK for life is an immigrant. A white Canadian who moves to New York is an immigrant. Some immigrants are wealthy. Some are poor and seeking a better life. Not every foreign person is an immigrant. If a Brit moves to USA for 2 years to work, that’s called being an expat. An immigrant is someone who changes home country. If you’re planning to go back to your country or another, then you’re not an immigrant. Just fyi

As a white person my parents never really mentioned racism to me as a young child. I remember having my first best friend and I was so exited and my parents asked why she was black as if they had expected I would only have white friends. I was confused and said its because she was born that way and my parents realized how they worded the question and dropped it. She was my first crush. Eventually we drifted apart and I had two new friends. People would look at me funny because I always hung out with these two black girls. I don't know if people thought I was weird or if they thought my friends were but either way I didnt care. Sadly, I don't see them as often anymore but this is my point. I didn't hear about people thinking black people were less-than so I never treated them as such. Of course education is important and I'm glad I've learnt some (definitely not all) of the history of racism because it is important. Education is the cornerstone of change. Change is possible. (this isn't me trying to say that I have a black friend so I'm not racist btw, although I sincerely hope I am not racist ever because racism NEEDS to end)

It's a misconception they put on themselves. They all are beautiful, beauty is simply subjective. Different places have different idealistics for beauty. And factually many white people especially in America seek to tan themselves because that's what they believe ideal beauty looks like.

I'm so glad that you never thought this way And no, you shouldn't shut up, every voice matters no matter the color. I did a presentation in school on the media and stereotypes on black females, and some people didn't know it was a thing.
@godfan1078 жыл бұрын
It is not a misconception that "they" put on themselves. It's a misconception and misrepresentation that the media constantly portrays that subconsciously integrates into everyone's minds. And yes, they are all beautiful, yet the media tells a vastly different story.

I really love makeup. And I've noticed that when stores are having sales where if you buy something you get a free sample, or gift set, usually the items are very basic and flatter every skin tone or they exclusively flatter fair skin tones. Although I am very fair myself, I cannot imagine how frustrating this is to all of the beautiful dark skinned women (or men!) out there!! Even when you're paying for the product, there are hundreds of options for my pasty skin, and MAYBE one for people with darker tones! Why is the cosmetic industry built on white women? Why is it not promoting people of all colors??

The fact that you as someone who's white and isn't necessarily affected by the lack of shades in beauty products is heart warming af. I'm literally tearing up right now. It honestly sucks to want to buy a product but not finding a shade that's even remotely close to your own, it's like the people who made it refuse to realize you exist or are "good enough" to use their products.

A lot of these people in this video come from societies/ countries where being light complected is literally a forced part of their society. So it's a bit unfair for you to attribute centuries of socialized behavior to just low self esteem.
@DOTMH_17 жыл бұрын
Nyemade Harmon the video didn't explain it from that prospective so I commented on what I saw. The title is misleading and who's to say everyone from that region feels the way they do? This is a self hated at its finest. I'm Africa America and we all know how America loves blacks but I hold my head high natural and everything. I'm very aware of colorism in society but learned along time ago that I would make people see me for me and if not then that's their karma. These people unfortunately learned to not love themselves by people that don't love themselves. I just don't understand why be upset about something you can't change? I can understand being to fat or too skinny but to have a problem with your skin color is strange to me. look at Michael Jackson he tried to erase the black and he came out looking odd.
@aril36697 жыл бұрын
indigo11 indigo11 Michael Jackson was a public figure and had vitiligo so you wouldn't quite understand his insecurities. Also, you're trying to say that you never feel like the people do in this video because you love yourself? I think I'm beautiful, and I love the color of my skin but I'm not too cowardice to admit that at times I get extremely insecure about myself because of society's depiction of black people and how a lot of people think that the majority of black women are the ugliest, loud and obnoxious etc., sorry but I don't believe that you don't feel the way these people have felt sometimes, and this is a video of them speaking out about these things so don't you think it's kind of wrong to be deprecating their insecurities? I'm not trying to start a fight I just want to know if I missed something about what you commented.
