I never hated cats, just didn't really like them. Then a black kitten showed up hiding under my cabin. The plan was to catch him and take him to the Humane Society. I picked him up, he looked at me with wide green eyes and started purring. I was done for. I have been his pet human ever since. I even adopted a buddy for him, so now I have two. Best things that ever happened to me.

When i was in secondary school I had a female cat. I used to get sick all the time and would end up at the hospital every month. I always had to lock up my cat first, because she would end up escaping and following me all the way to the hospital and stay until I would come out. Total dog person for my whole life. Love dogs and couldn’t imagine not having one or more in my life at anytime. I’m 57 and we just got a kitten for the first time with 3 dogs here. I’m converted! Love the little thing! So easy to care for, so friendly and fun and my dogs love her too! Have a 3 month old puppy and they love each other. It’ll be fun to watch them grow up together. I didn’t know what I was missing out on by not having a cat. I know that puppies generally keep their same personality traits when they’re adults. Sure they act more like an adult dog, but they still have the same personality they were born with. I was wondering if cats are like that? I know she’ll act like an adult cat when she’s older, but her friendliness and her liking to be with you I’m hoping will stay?

@@lettuce7378 Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah she’s a great little kitten and gets along so well with her big puppy “brother”. She’s going to be an indoor only cat but she has a ton of space to live, basically half my house all to herself. I use a puppy gate to separate her if she needs some “No Dogs Allowed” time, so no stress for her. After having so many dogs in my life I really appreciate this little cat! So funny, playful, cuddly and friendly and sooooo much easier care-wise than a pup! I don’t know why I never got one before?

I think some cats may have “teenager” phase where (like teenagers)they get more grumpy and less cuddly for a bit, they’ll calm down after the phase ends. I’m not sure if this is true but that’s what I’ve heard! ☺️

Clawing isn’t exactly affection, it’s more of a playful thing if it’s not in an aggressive way, but the kneading thing is something they do when they’re happy and getting comfortable, a lot of the times if a cat hates someone, it’s a feral cat or the human messed up.

My mom always hated cats. Then I brought home a cat that turned out to be eerily similar to her. Pitch black, petit, fiery-eyed with a fierce attitude, intolerant to strangers and idiots and with a hair trigger for violence. Then my mom suddenly began to love cats, not least because the cat, a Bombay, seemed to also hate my moms sister like the plague. After the cat beat up my moms sister, AND her dog, my mom and the cat became inseperable... a true life companion.

Cats doesn’t have a special dislike for you. If they don’t know you it’s rare that they’ll be friendly bc they don’t usually trust strangers. If you give them time you’ll know how wonderful they are. But just like humans, there’s cats that dislike being hugged, and they also might feel scared of fall if you grab them. If you respect them they’ll respect you. You also have things that you dislike. fr I used to be so TERRIFIED of getting scratched or bitten by a cat before I got a cat. but like my cat only scratches (not to intentionally harm me) but when he's playing with my hands and gets too excited he lets his claws out but it doesn't hurt too bad, you get used to it. If you move away it's not like he's gonna chase after you and claw you down, it will just think you don't want to play anymore. And biting doesn't hurt AT ALL (at least not to me) when my cat was a baby it hurt way more than now mostly cuz he doesn't want to hurt me (as you gain that trust and the longer you have your cat of course) and only when he's playing he bites but never hard. even my mom noticed as he got older he stopped biting so hard. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I honestly have the best cat, he's the sweetest. CRAZY for sure but he's my baby🥺🥺🤍

Fun fact: cats know when you're apprehensive and unsure. They also are very good at reading body language just like dogs are. So imagine you're a cat and some human comes up to you like 'ugh I hate you I want nothing to do with you' and acts skittish and unsure and tries to pet you but they get scared and make fast movements that freak you out . So the line about 'cats hate me so I hate them back' the feeling is mutual buddy. You can't show fear or negotiate behavior around a cat they'll know.

Cats know personal space and they respect you if you respect them but the moment they feel threatened around you or sense fake or negative body language they won't welcome you at all. @TruthHurts Yes, exactly!! It took me maybe 2 weeks of sitting outside and calling to the feral cat for her to come up to me. At first she wouldn't even come within 10 feet of you and if you stood up while looking at her she'd assume you we're moving towards her and run off. My mom and I spent time gaining her trust though, and soon enough we got her to come up to us. Then she came inside the house, started sleeping inside the house, and after awhile she stopped sleeping outside at night entirely and only went out to lay in the sun. She didn't like people at first, but we gave her time and let her get used to us and sniff us out a bit instead of giving up and saying she hated us. Currently trying the same thing with another cat. This one seems a bit more anxious and she only has one eye, the other one appears to be gone. If I reach out my hand to her she runs off even if i'm nowhere near close enough to touch her, but if I keep my hands in my pockets and move slowly she lets me get fairly close. She gets close to the house every once in awhile and will try catching squirrels or birds (she never catches them, probably because the missing eye effects her aim and perception), but the fact she lets me close to her at all is already an improvement. You just have to give cats time and they come to you on their own. Cats can definantly feel vibes, its said that they can sense natural disasters like earthquakes before they actually occur, and if you already don't like cats off the bat they're going to sense you're distaste and annoyance with them

See, the problem with "dog people" is they expect animals to just love them instantly without ever working for it. Without ever having earned it. People like puppies because puppies are instantly running up to every person in the room. Kittens take a bit to get them to warm up to you but when they do, it's so amazing to see their little personalities emerge, and they show you every day that you are someone important to them, and they just get cuter and cuter. If you raise a cat from kittenhood, and you do it RIGHT, you will have one of the most amazing bonds you've ever formed with an animal, guaranteed. It will be love given to you on a daily basis that you without a doubt earned. Cats are beautiful companions, and they develop very deep bonds with both their owners and other animal companions. You just have to have patience, and work to earn their trust, and give them a chance to show you.

I’m allergic I once had a cat when I was young and it scratched me when I patted it. It hated me but then I kept sneezing and my skin got puffy around her so we had to give her away luckily we found her a nice home with a 67 year old woman who’s cat just died so she is happy now :)

My mom used to hate cats thinking they are evil and cold little things, but after I got a cat and she started understanding them and now she loves them. She even wants to adopt a cat herself and keeps telling people that it is impossible for someone NOT to love a cat.

I liked cats from the start, i thought they were cute and i got myself a turkish angora which is white. people should accept all animals except if they are dangerous like lions and other animals that attack humans on site but cats don't. it also takes time for a cat to adapt so you need to let them relax.

I had cats in my life that I loved. But in general I don’t like cats and wouldn’t get one anymore. Because I don’t wanna deal with poop and vomit in my house. That’s the reason. I have a very acute sense of smell that got even acuter after I had corona virus. I can’t stand a smell of cat pee. I smell it in every house that has cats. Every single one. Their owners are used to it so the don’t smell. Plus the hair all over you. My roommate has a cat now. I’m not a fan. I prefer she keeps her animal in her room. Cat hair all over the kitchen and bathroom. Disgusting....

True that, I got a cat when he was 6, was abused and neglected , but he's a gorgeous little boy who's 8-9 now (taken 1.5-2 months to really get his trust and for him to be comfortable around the house). They just misunderstood critters.

Yeah,they might understand cats if they try to live with one or two.I wasn't much of a cat lover myself before I fostered two cats,living with them made my life better and made my love for cats grow stronger day by day. Situation is different for everyone though,but in my experience cats never hurt me . I have a dog too and I love her, not more not less.

I got to go in a room full of kittens last week! The local cat rescue asked for donations of food and litter, and when I brought some by, the lady let me go meet the kittens. There was like a dozen of them and they were TINY. ❤️
