This is amazing! I love that buzzfeed decided to do a video on Service Dogs! They have really raised Service Dog awareness! I have a Service Dog in Training that will be finished in 6 months. Edit: my dog is being trained to alert me if my heart goes to fast and I might pass out and to alert me before I have an anxiety attack it will also assist with my mobility such as “brace” to help me stand for these dogs it was called “steady” she will help me with balance and going up stairs also much more. Kind of like Deacon and Luke put together.

I help a blind couple with their mail every week, and the wife and her blind sister are going to Apple Hill and I have been invited to go with them next month on and organized tour with other blind people. I'm sure there's going to be at least one or two service dogs there, and I absolutely adore animals. Even when I go on the bus and if someone boards with a service dog, even though I know I can't say anything, I am comforted by the temporary company of a service animal.

WOW! I was really impressed with Deacon's "Steady" command. How do you even train a dog to tense up their back? Very cool. Dogs are awesome
@jessica69676 жыл бұрын
KeepCalmAndCARRIEOn A vet would never approve of that command. Dogs can task for stability via counter balance, but they should not have pressure placed upon them, it is risky and unsafe. If a disabled individual required this task, it would be highly likely they would fall onto the dog. An arm rest of a bench might provide a safer alternative, with one hand pulling upwards and away from the harness handle, to provide that steadying counter balance. This organisation is clearly a shambles

Based on the description for what Mr. Pip will be doing in the video, he is an ESA, not a service dog. This is an important distinction. ESAs do not have the same rights under the ADA that service dogs do, and lately many ignorant people have been passing off either pets or ESAs as service dogs because ESAs go through much less specific task training than service dogs do, and most people don’t know the difference.
@joselyndiaz97906 жыл бұрын
Ellen M yes and ESA’s don’t have public access, so they can distract a service dog

as mr. pip's owner, i'd like to point out that he is a service dog. since coming home, he has also learned to detect meltdowns and alert me to them, as well as "go get help" for when my vertigo causes me to fall. he is currently learning how to pick things up to assist me when vertigo hits and he has learned to use his happy command in both meltdowns and vertigo episodes. i have generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and symptoms of PTSD from trauma. mr. pip is a psychiatric service dog who also assists with my mobility issues. check us out on instagram @servicedogpip to learn more

@@piglet_899 Honestly (and sadly) a lot of service dog training in the US involves aversive methods. I guess they just didn't want to show them off on camera as much.
@pammielavery31824 жыл бұрын
@@rennsible they use the bandanas strictly to cover them so they don’t have to deal with uneducated people like you. If you prefer strictly positive based training? Cool! There’s science to back it. If you prefer balanced training? Cool! There’s science to back it too. It’s all about personal preference and when training highly skilled dogs sometimes it is necessary. Some of the dogs were on martingale collars, some were on prongs. So they obviously choose based on the individual dog, which is all you can ask for. Train the dog in front of you. And run your dog not your mouth.
@rennsible4 жыл бұрын
@@pammielavery3182 Interesting how the Royal Dutch Guide Dog Foundation and the most well-known Dutch Assistance Dog Facility have never needed to use anything but a standard harness and flat-buckle collar to train their dogs to a very high standard without any issues for decades, but Americans can't seem to manage. Hell we even train Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd police dogs with only positivity. You'd think it has something to do with the length of the training process. Or maybe it's the competence of the trainers. Maybe Europe is just more developed in general to be honest, seeing how your elections are currently going.

Ok. They are nothing like children, “lmao”. So children play? For sure puppies play too. Children eat and drink? I’m pretty sure puppies eat and drink too.
