BVRC - 118 | Renovating Bedroom 2 | Cement Floor & Wall Rebuild.
Welcome to another episode of BVRC ! This week BVRC-118 we started off on Sunday with Manuel helping to clear the second bedroom, getting ready to lay a new cement floor. Thus is an exciting project because I have been anticipating this for many months and also because this is going to be MY bedroom. But there’s a long way to go yet. Unfortunately this room is susceptible to flooding and so I have a drain planned for both ends of the room. Just inside the door and at the bottom end. But we found that the holes through the wall were too low (below the water line on the outside) and almost immediately we had a deluge of rain which flooded back up the pipes.
I went to the farm on Tuesday and stayed in Bedroom 1 for the first time. It was great that Sendo was up at the farm too and we had a BBQ dinner cooked on the inside fireplace.
Then on Wednesday, early morning, Juan Miel (Juan the Honey man Bee Keeper) came to help build the outside pillar and we made great progress, not only raising up several levels but also putting in the start of the support arm.
It was Easter week, so on Wednesday I managed to squeeze in a delivery of building supplies (Everything is closed here on Thursday and Friday) and it was good to have Sendo with us to help for a time in the morning.
On Friday (Good Friday) Bay helped me clear the flooding, finish the drains and pipes and lay down the aggregate for the floor. On Saturday he came back and we made a start on laying the cement, which means laying an expensive PVC waterproofing sheet, putting in a blue fiber mesh (to bind the cement floor) and mixing lots of cement I had imagined 30 bags may be enough but it seems that I massively under-estimated it as it looks like it will take more like 100 !
The work continues with the restoration of the 150 year old farm house in northwest Tenerife.
