Bobby, I think that you’re much too modest about your keyboard skills. You’re WAY beyond being a C-F-G player, not to mention your vocal, guitar, and writing skills. In retrospect, your contributions to the Layla album have grown in recognition as we look back objectively at that time. It’s a damn shame that there weren’t multiple studio follow-ups to one of the best albums in history. Thanks again to you and CoCo for filling in the historical voids about this time.

Iconic records are almost impossible to follow - there are exceptions - but the dynamics of the structure of those bands who have been able to carry on after creating a masterpiece were much different - these musicians were hired guns - They came together and it worked despite of the differing personalities - Every one of these guys were the best of the best in their own environment - this creates egotistical changes within a person - Eric was constantly changing - his music reflects

I love all the Delaney and Bonnie records. They were both great singers. Bobby's keyboards really added a lot to that band. I still pull out To Delaney from Bonnie and play Soul Shake and Miss Ann, which are back to back. They get me dancing every time. Bruce Botnick was the engineer on all the Doors records.

Bobby is a legend and a very kind and humble person to boot ! The D&D album is still one of the greatest records ever made
@bgw3164 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of a young fan, only turned 23 this year. But the D&D album, the passion, the musicianship and songwriting, just every aspect of that masterpiece has been etched into my life since I was 13-14. I can't really imagine my life before hearing D&D and honestly it's a shame that it couldn't go further, because even a second Domino's album that missed the mark would've still been incredible based on some of the bootleg out-takes released. The Layla album is a masterpiece, and Bobby Whitlock is a legend. I just wanted to say thank you Mr Whitlock for everything you've done and for sharing your stories. And thanks to Coco, for being a wonderful interviewer. Everytime I these videos are uploaded Bobby has a huge smile on his face and I imagine you're the reason why.

Hi Bobby & CoCo, just reaching out to you from Manchester UK to say how much i am digging your memories of such a golden era of music. I'm a little young to of been around at the time. However all the tracks you were on to me is mind blowing having listen to all the tracks over the years i find out you were on them. It is so refreshing at 58 to to find a new hero. In a world so full of arseholes. Your warmth and integrity seem only out shone my your talent. I just listened to your version of Bell bottom blues for the first time, i prefer the vocals you make it come to life, anyway keep on rocking and much love to you to you both from the UK. PS (how does love have to be so bad) man you are DANGEROUS :))) xx

CoCo and Bobby, thank you for doing these videos. Let it be known, for the record, for the musicians I know here in Atlanta, and those we have met around the world, the Layla album occupies a very unique spot. The fact that it did not take off at first is a reflection of its artistic value, evidenced more so by its longevity. It is very important for us to hear and understand how the band and album came together, prospered and faltered. It is also clear that Bobby's "partnership" with Eric Clapton was like heart and soul. I don't think there are any songs post-DD's that have the same passion and feel as when the two of you were writing and working together. We have heard some of these stories in print, or second hand, but to hear them from you is so much more revealing and useful. Please keep on playing. I know how times pass and it is "hard to go back home" but I've got some friends here, and we have played on and off for nearly 50 years, and there is nothing like all of us getting together and making music. I've heard Lennon was considering getting back together with McCartney. Well, Whitlock should explore getting back together with Clapton. It would be good for us and the rest of the world. COVID has been good for so few things and your videos are one of them.

Ok man - you got me again…first your joy radiates through your eyes, smile and laugh. The eyes are the window to the soul. CoCo is doing a wonderful gift by pulling this out of you. For real - Man your laugh and smile show of real redemption - CoCo is a gift - the result of redemption. Being redeemed is wonderful. Now to the song - HIGH - when I bought 'there's one in every crowd' in '75 - I always dug the 2nd side tunes as the lp faded out. Better make it through today, High, opposites - loved them- felt them - understood them - Now I know the rest of the story as this Lp was Gospel mixed with some old dominos magic. Your legacy still comes through. I did get your Cd's from those days btw, Something considered the 2nd album session. Tunes like Who's been sleeping in my bed and Streets of LA. I play the music to play my guitar with and create parts as if I was in the session. then you mention edwin Hawkins - Oh Happy Day - gospel music was all in the air in the US - it came through Otis and you and the all the music of the day. Thats how I hear & see it now. A big album for me in 72 was Jesus Chirst superstar which had Evonne on it - and of course she toured in 74 w/EC - I was too young to see you guys play but I think you came through Germany several times from 70 to 72 correct? I was in hamburg and my folks let me go out to concerts by the time i was 13 - I was always 10 years younger than everyone else at the shows - I do remember Evonne and eye making eye contact ( i had 2nd row seats right dead center and I was smiling at her and she smiled back quite clearly. One final thing - One of the lps for me back then was Leon Live, and Mad dogs and english men - of course Leon was there all along. He really was a cog in the universe. I watched Leons Funeral the other night and I have to say Bonnie just slayed me out - Man she can sing - singing Superstar I think. Was she as pretty as the old picks seem to indicate (or as Leon would say…was she a Saxy Airline ticket taker…"). All this music was the soundtrack to my life. My old Pal…beautiful song - the brother I never had…God bless you guys…

To my ears, the "second Dominos album recordings" (i.e. Evil, One More Chance, Mean Old Frisco, Got to Get Better and Snake Lake Blues) sound like a different variations on the same basic idea, which is "exploratory Blues in E", which I read somewhere was what Eric was trying to play--so, as far as I'm concerned, he/you all achieved that goal. I love them all, and I was thrilled to hear Got to Get Better WITH Bobby's keyboards and vocals. "High" wound up on "There's One in Every Crowd", but I never knew it was originally a Dominos track. ❤️

Everyone thought that it was the actor John Garfield’s house because Mike took a B & W 8x10 and signed it: “Mike & Shelia, enjoy the house! There was a story back in the day that D&B's guitarist suddenly quit. Shortly thereafter, someone approached Delaney, stated that he was a big fan, and volunteered to serve as D&B's guitarist until they could find a replacement. This conversation happened in a darkened place and when they got to a more lighted area the volunteer turned out to be Hendrix.
