At 0740 that's me in the fireman’s seat as the tripy goes past rose hill station. The drivers name is Ricky may. We just picked up a string of petrol wagons from Shell and heading back to Clyde or Enfield yards.

Nice work Bevan. Very professionally captured as always. Seems your an EMD admirer like I am. Love the video of you traveling in the cab of a 422 class on the Griffith express between Central and Goulburn. Love the sound of the 567CR in the 49class. Appears I'm not alone. My father drove them regularly at Cowra particularly hauling wheat. They were based at Parkes before being moved to Sydney for thier final days. Back in the eighties, with the right fireman I got to drive them as a teenager in the driver's, seat, the fireman sitting behind me on the fold down seat. Drove a double headed (two 49class) wheat from Grenfell on the Koorawatha to Cowra class 3 section of track or mainline as the Cowra guys used to call it.

WOW, this brings back memories. many a day and night when i was a fireman, me and Ricky would spend sitting(sleeping) in clyde yard or Roselle or Botany or flemington waiting on shunter’s, to drag whatever to another yard to make up some train for wherever. Was my bread and butter at the time. My driver (Ricky) was fairly junior and was only qualified for the south coast and southern lines, so we ended up doing a lot of trip train rosters.

That footage of the green 4901, looks to me like its in the yard shunter mode. Pulling out the cement wagons. A trippy was almost always 2 loco's. So it could handle any situation. (BTW its in Clyde yard.)

Definitely the yard shunter with the front brake pipe hanging and the fireman facing backwards.

Probably pulling loaded cement for Blue Circle down the steep road, I've done that heaps of times with 81 class.

I love the chattery engines in the 49 class locomotives and they are great looking little buggers especially in the candy livery .....they didn't really suit the freightcorp paint with the big yellow valance along the sides , had they all had the valance cut off like a few of them were it probably would have looked better

Great video and great to see preserved 4401 and 44211 together. Also an interesting scene at 0:50. The leading 49 class there is 4916 (with 4910) which cross quad 86's heading in the other direction. The 3rd 86 out of those 4 is Candy 8646. Both 4916 and 8646 have been preserved by the NSWRM at Thirlmere... Just curious, but what was the location of that scene?

That's the old Metropolitan Goods Railway near Leichhardt. The train has just left Balmain Signal box, gone through the cutting and then turned west.
