18:38 the follow up kill from Alex would've won the point against most players. Viktor has always been very good at countering these attempted kills with a flat backhand push, which usually ends up winning the point. Kunlavut also played a lot of these quick follow up kills at the Paris Olympics. It worked against a lot of players in Paris, but it didn't work against Viktor because Viktor is so good at defending against them (Kunlavut's follow ups are also not as lethal as Alex's). It's impressive that Alex managed to retrieve the shot from Viktor's backhand push at 18:39, that would've been an outright winner against most players. One of Alex's main weapons is following up quickly after a smash to continue to push and apply pressure in a drive game, but Viktor is unusually good at defending against these. I think it's one of his signature strengths. I can't think of any other MS player who has such a strong defense in these situations. I don't think Viktor will be an easy opponent for Alex.

How does stressing him on court and giving him less time make him vomit out of the blue? He was sick.
@HokKan19 күн бұрын
@@lykazz3506 Stress vomiting, also known as stress-induced vomiting, is a physical response to extreme stress or anxiety. It is considered a symptom or manifestation of stress and is associated with the body's fight-or-flight response. Most likely caused from the pressure of losing to a teenager, especially at Viktor's own home tournament. 10:32 Both commentators pointed out during the match that Viktor has absolutely nothing to gain from winning this match, but everything to lose - there's a lot on the line.

У Ланьера была сумасшедшая мотивация, он был заряжен на уничтожение топов. Он разложил морально и физически Виктора, поэтому он понял, что не подготовился должным образом и недооценил противника, но вариант слиться был только 1, он им и воспользовался.
He was sick already. That's why he was playing so bad. When he physically exerted himself by playing, it just makes it worse which is why he withdrew.

what do they mean by play against the drift? 25:22
@jakobbrenner12 күн бұрын
in a big venue there is a drift, meaning the air flows in one direction, making it harder/easier for it to go long depending if you are against or with the drift. usually it is prefered to play against the drift because it is easier to control the length (not pushing it long when lifting)

Two possibilities why Axelsen felt sick. Either way poor Lanier never get a chance to proof himself in this match. 1. He knew what Lanier is capable of in the first game and doesn't want to lose to a 19 yr old in home soil in a highly anticipated match. (It's the fear coctailed with stress and anxiety sickness) 2. He genuinely got sick. (Food poisoning sickness)

it's vomit for sure(if you pause it at ~32:44 at the right moment you can see yellow liquid leaving his mouth) as for why he vomited, who really knows, but it could be due to at least some or all of the following: -playing against a strong european player(who seem to intimidate him, and may have affected him leading up to this meeting) -playing against a 19 year old(perhaps making it feel like it's over for him) -playing in his home city where his family are likely watching as well -playing in a highly anticipated match

I’m honestly shocked at how many people in the comments believe that a two-time Olympic champion, who’s been competing on the international circuit since he was 17, would vomit from “the stress of playing a younger opponent.” This guy has faced legends like Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei under far more intense pressure and never cracked due to stress. It’s baffling that some actually think this is even a possibility.
