This is one of the best forms of Okuhara. She played against giant players (Marin & Nehwal) prior to this championship.. And she played 3 sets on both games, Here in the championship game she played 3 set to their limits as well. You just can't appreciate that. Im still disappointed Tai Tzu Ying didn't join World Championships that year., I'm a hard core Tai fan, But I think, even if she joined that year. Okuhara or Sindhu could have outplayed her the same way., Okuhara and Sindhu were just both in amazing forms that year.

Probably the greatest WS match ever played, alongside the following matches : Wang Shixian vs. Nozomi Okuhara (1 hr 56 mins) [2015 Malayasia Open QF] , Saina Nehwal vs. Wang Shixian (1 hr 37 mins) [2012 Indonesia Open QF]. While I'm sure Carolina Marin has played some great matches, I just don't see her having ever played one of these quality, and I don't think she understands sportsmanship.

Good for her. She escaped Okuhara who was defeated by Sindhu in the Olympics, and has lost to Okuhara 6 times. More importantly, she is 4-1 down in the last 5 matches head-to-head stats, and has exited in the 1st round to Chinese youngsters in the Super Series (post Olympics). Okuhara beat Marin in the All-England, in the Super-Series Finals, and now in the QF of WC-2017. In my head, Marin's consistency is in question, along with her results Post-Olympics, and her (terrible) Sportsmanship.

You are most probably right. There was also a great match between Nozomi and Wang Yihan (don't remember when or where) that Nozomi outlasted Wang. Wang was so exhausted at the end of the match that she almost stumbled out of the court. Nozomi's stamina and determination are admirable!

@Mulinaster - I can literally show you specific matches where Carolina has : 1) Screamed directly at the opponent, and been carded multiple times for doing so. Not only that, she has persisted her scream with an angry glare at the opponent. I assume if you don't trust my bibliography, you would trust repetitive camera footage and yellow cards (and even a red card) issued by multiple umpires through the years. 2) Not only has she often refused to shake the hands of a player whom she lost to, she has refused to look at the player directly if she has shaken hands with them quite often. 3) I have no problems in believing that her inconsistent performance is somewhat influenced by her extremely emotionally volatile temperament. Perhaps, if you take the correlation a step sideways, it isn't hard for you to see how her lack of emotional control possibly plays a large role in her dismal attitude on court over the years. 4) It is a fairly well acknowledged fact in the Badminton circles that while the elite WS players respect her as a player (as they do any player, which is a professionally sound and wise tactic), they have complained to umpires during matches about her screams and court conduct. There was even an instance where coach Chen Jin for Wang Shixian complained to the umpire _himself_ about her atrocious conduct during the 1st or 2nd round match in the Australian Open/Indonesian Open.

This 2017 World Championship WS final was one of the best ever. In a battle of contrasts, the diminutive Naomi Okuhara of Japan edged out the tall Pusarla V. Sindhu of India in 3 hard-fought games. It was full of very long, energy-sapping rallies!

Her best time was during late 2015 and early 2016. Too bad during the Olympics, her performance went down a bit falling short when she fought Sindhu in the semis of Rio Olympics. A year later (2017) she managed to up her game once more, clinching WC Gold 2017. But again, if you look closely to her entire career, Her best time was during early 2016, and late 2015. In 2015 year end finals, she won, I think. Then in March 2016, she won All England, where she fought strong players like Wang Shixian.

For example, not long after this match, she suffered knee injury which had her skip 2017 Super Series Final. If you compare how many matches she had to her compatriot, Yamaguchi, Okuhara had played way less despite being 2 years older. Her injuries caused her to be absent in many tournaments. It is admirable how she still keeps fighting despite this, but it is no surprise that we don't often she her in her best.
