My apologies for not getting a more recent recording but this 1976 Russian album is the only recording that performs the added 2-bar conclusion in the original manuscript AS IS and without any modifications.

It is what it is - thank you for uploading it; it's still great music despite the recording being compressed/distorted badly. Actually, there's some nice playing if one can ignore the clipping (not of your making)

Creo que hay una “ligeramente más reciente” y con instrumentos de epoca, a cargo de Nikolaus Harnoncourt y su Consensus Musikus en la disquera Teldec. Y acabo de revisar, también hay una con Ton Koopman... ;) Saludos

What drag the there is only a fragment of this clearly spectacular piece. It makes one regret what other great music he wrote that is also missing.

I read somewhere that the original manuscript by Bach shows that he copied the strings and solo (probably from an early violin concerto) and the wind parts were being written as he composed them on the spot (Hand writing slightly different). So, everything seems to indicate that originally this was one of those violin concertos written in Weimar (Sadly, most of his compositions from this era have disappeared, and few survived by miracle). A fire in 1774 destroyed some of the buildings at Weimar and it is believed that any archived music would had burned as well. If true, that fire would had been one of the worse disasters in Baroque Art.

The parts with the arpeggios are really catchy.

Since several of his Leipzig cantatas have sinfonias adapted from violin concertos he wrote at Köthen, I suspect this is another example. Bach probably added the woodwind and brass parts for the cantata. In the 1750's, a guy named Riemenschneider published all of Bach's chorale movements from his cantatas in a book. It is from this, by looking at which chorales have no cantata that we can find associated with it, that we can figure out that about a third of his cantatas are missing.

The beginning of the 2-bar conclusion comes in a bit abrupt IMO, and also the arpeggios in the middle sections are quiet repetitive... Anyway, thank you for your great efforts and for uploading this work :)

Bach played always the violin solo part in his orchestral works, so he wrote those arpeggios clearly to astound the audience. It's a virtuoso style part , nothing deep or emotional. However if you don't like them you can send him a letter and tell him your opinion. Unfortunately we don't know who added the two bars so it will be difficult to tell him that you don't like his work. What a pity!

The arpeggios are repetitive, but in a live performance it works well. It sounds like the violinist us on a marathon bringing the audience with them. The end has clearly been penned in by someone else.

Are you kidding? The arpeggios are the strongpoint of the piece.

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this piece, and my one and only version I have listened to and highly recommend is that by the Brandenburg Consort, conducted by Roy Goodman, with the soloist Pavel Besnosiuk. (As a filler in their album of Bach’s Orchestral Suites) Simply BREATHTAKING.

This along with those pieces are the closest Bach ever got to our knowledge to writing a full blown symphony (championed in his time only by Hadyn). It is possible he did get around to writing one, but it may never have survived history. So these are important to note and to cherish to know roughly how Bach approached large scale instrumentation.
