Je ne connaissais pas cette option de séparer la partie de clavecin de celle de l'orchestre entre la gauche et la droite. Je ne suis pas certain que cela soit plus lisible que le format traditionnel...Mais Bravo pour le beau travail de synchronisation !

Makes me wonder what Bach would have written if he could have gotten his hands on an instrument with a circulating system of more than 12 notes per octave -- for instance, a clavemusicum omnitonum (31 notes per octave).

I have heard the Fantasia many times before, often paired with another composition, but this is the first time I have gotten to hear the incomplete Fugue. The use of dissonant intervals in the first part of it is notable.

This Scrolling Bach also tracking along on the orig. MS is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! Kudos to whoever is responsible for the"Gerubach" concept and execution! 💪🏼👍🏻

-Who are the performers?- Performers listed on the last screen of the video: Trevor Pinnock with the English Concert. Also noticed that the continuo part still has figured bass, and according to Wikipedia, BWV 1055 was intended to have a second harpsichord for the continuo.

“I came here”, expecting another set of harpsichord variations, so this is an utter surprise for me. It all began when Gerubach’s BWV 990 show up on my feed. I was so fascinated, I went for BWV 991, which turned out to be an unfinished fragment work, still a set of variations. BWV 992 is the beloved capriccio written for his brother’s departure, so I did come for BWV 987. So Bach wrote at least FOUR sets of variations for the harpsichord: BWV 988 (Goldbergs), BWV 989 (aria variata), BWV 990 (Sarabande con partite), and BWV 991 (air with variations).
@jasonkim55035 күн бұрын
Oh, and this is my first time to see “partita” as a set of variations. I only read the word partita used to mean variations, but I never knew of any such work. Now this BWV 990 will be one of my favorite Bach’s harpsichord pieces! Thank you for sharing!
@jasonkim55035 күн бұрын
I was not aware of any other sets of harpsichord variations besides BWVs 988 and 989. So this is an utterly pleasant surprise for me. I wonder if there are more sets of variations, possibly in the BWV 990s? I should investigate!

in 0:55 it says positiv. what does that mean?
@Pieter_Kotze6 күн бұрын
It refers to the different manuals/divisions on an organ, and here it's used for a loud and soft effect (Oberwerk being loud, and Positiv being softer). Hope this helps👍

For whatever reason this is one of the great works of classical music that I just never liked. Listening to the whole thing through has made me realize that it just isn't for me. I appreciate it artistically, but it inspires nothing in me emotionally. And that's fine. Maturing is realizing that you won't like every great work of art.

I believe it was Carl Phillip Emmanuel that related that J.S. Bach's written organ works related a rather poor impression of his improvisations. The Dorian has always seemed to me such a work, holding its listeners spellbound.

Ugh…Bach. I feel this toccata in my bones. The themes are so beautiful and the development…just unreal. WHO writes this?! Like who hears this in their head? While everything else comes and goes, Bach remains.

The end sounds like the composer still had a stock of flats and sharps that would otherwise get bad, so he spended them all in those few bars.
