My impression is that Bach was happy and on top of the world when he wrote this.

I find many of his Overtures to be like that. In addition, the last movement is titled "Réjouissance" which means to rejoice and make merry!

The French ouverture was interestingly conceived originally as introduction music for the entrance of the King before other music / opera was to be performed, so the music is very grand for that very purpose, though I do not know if these orchestral suites in particular were actually used as intended

Thank you gerubach for such excellent work with this (and all the other) Bach scores. We play the Orchestral Suite No 4 in the orchestra, and if it wasn't for your work I'd have many more difficulties playing my part. But now, I read and re-read and listen and play along (very softly though) and it makes life for me and my violin so much easier!

Вся музыка Баха и не только в частности эта мировое достояние всего человечества. Я сам очень большой ценитель творчества и музыки Баха. Считаю, что нет равных ему композиторов, которые жили до него, в его время и после него.

How does the bassoonist cope from 8:40 eh?
@ETMargraf4 жыл бұрын
It actually isn't that hard, you just have to phrase your breathing well.
@jjmw41123 жыл бұрын
@@ETMargraf Oh no, it IS that hard. It's one of the most stressful moments for all bassoonists, for both modern and baroque instruments.

Which instrument is playing the melody in the menuet (i assume the first violin) ? I can't get it to sound right at all, it's like the F#-G G.(tremolo) is way too low compared to what i can hear in the piece. I checked with my (lousy) ear to compare the highest note in the first couple of seconds of the menuet, and i feel that it is the B, on the next octave. I''m probably misunderstanding something, so hopefully you can explain what it is, that i''m missing.

The highest note sounding then is an A. The trill played on the G has an A in it. So that might be what is throwing you off.

Do the trumpets/timpani get pay parity from these recordings?
@UnbaisedGamer9 жыл бұрын
So if the suite is centered in D Major, why are the trumpets and timpani written in C Major?
@Symphing129 жыл бұрын
Conventions of Bach's day. The trumpets transpose in D, and timpani were written that way up to Mendelssohn's time.
@UnbaisedGamer9 жыл бұрын
OK, that makes sense. Thanks.

Simon Arnerich natural trumpets and horns had different crooks that, when attached to the instrument, alter the pitch. So, all of their parts were written and "played" in c, and the instrument would "transpose" into the correct key (as long as the proper crook was in place).
@klop42288 жыл бұрын
It still happens. Trumpets, horns, clarinets, and a few other instruments play in C major in terms of their own instruments, but the instruments are tuned some interval away from C, so that particular instrument's C major sounds like a different key. These are trumpets in D, meaning that playing a C on the trumpet will sound like a D. Trumpets in B-flat sound like Cs when a B-flat is played. The timpani are similar; in those days, people tended to use only two timps: for the tonic and dominant notes of the key. Therefore, rather than writing out any key, it was easier to leave out the key signature altogether and write the tonic as C and the dominant as G (tonic and dominant of C major).
@DocEnder7 жыл бұрын
No, when a B-flat is played, a B-flat Trumpet plays a concert A-flat.To play concert B-flat on a B-flat trumpet one must play a C. To play a concert C, Trumpets must play D. I think you mixed B-flat trumpets and D Trumpets.

Why is timpani written down a major second below from what it sounds like in the music? It’s never a transposing instrument.
@Nico279014 күн бұрын
Actually, in earlier period the timpani was tuned to tonic dominant so they just put it as C G and then specify in the score like timpani in D A.
